To not shower in the morning?

mysavinggrace123 · 08/08/2023 19:56

If I could, I would have two showers, AM & PM, but tbh I actually can't afford to do this due to water bill.

I simply couldn't get into clean bed sheets of an evening not showered. (Only exception if sheets are due a wash)

But I feel horrible when I haven't showered in the morning.

Do you always shower in the morning?

I always shower at night or within a few hours of going to bed- can't bear getting into bed without being clean. However I have to also shower in the morning if I've been to the gym or if I've had nightsweats (today!) . My showers even with hair washing tend to be under 5 minutes on the eco setting.

I knew a woman at work who told everyone she didn't need a shower in the morning, just one at night and a quick spray of body spray the next day.

She definitely did need a shower in the morning.

I don't know if it's just my nose but perfume sprayed on unwashed skin smells weird . It just does not smell right . Like trying to cover up bad smells , it just smells worse .

I used to work with someone who lectured us all about not needing to shower daily, not needing deodorant etc - needless to say she did smell.
Several senior staff member tried to have a discreet word with her but she refused to accept it and the matter eventually escalated to HR . At that point she tried to turn it into a bullying grievance against the entire team.

Though tbh she had a lot more issues than her personal hygiene

I bath before bed so I am clean for bed sheets and clean for the next day… why would you need another shower in the morning?

Sweat 🤷‍♀️

Getting into bed at night without having a bath/shower is pretty gross.

I have a shower and wash my hair every morning ready for the day

Morning and evening for me. If I had to give one up, I’d prefer to give up the morning one.

Sorry talking from my own experience as I don’t sweat really but if you do I guess yes it’s gross!

HalloumiLuvver · 10/08/2023 16:37

@SuperiorM yes a bath and hair wash once a week may have been the norm, but they washed at sinks in between! Pits and bits daily was the norm for most. The lady I'm talking about did not wash in between days.

I'm also in my 50's and we didn't have a shower, only a bath, in my house when I was younger. When we got one when I was mid primary school it was very exciting!

It makes no sense to shower in the morning and go to bed with the day’s dirt and grime that you’ve accumulated by being out and about.

Some of you must live in truly filthy cities with high levels of pollution to feel like this.

I live rurally in one of the most remote areas in the U.K. and our air is fresh and clean. I never feel "grimy" by the end of the day.

telestrations · 10/08/2023 16:40

If it's very hot then I shower twice a day but in lukewarm to cold water

Overwise I shower about once every 2-3 days. I wash every morning and evening, wear clean clothes every day, and change my sheets regularly.

I guess living in the likes of London or other big cities they are manky .

I honestly think it's much less faff to jump in the shower for 3 minutes than to sink wash. I don't need to wash my hair every time. And the water goes down the drain, rather than all over the floor when I tried to strip wash - I had obviously forgotten the techniques of my youth - or wasn't as bendy as I once was!

SamW98 · 10/08/2023 16:55

Totally agree. I pull my hair up have a quick scrub up in the shower and I’m out within a few minutes.
Can’t see how going to the bother of a strip wash is easier than a 3 minute shower.

Standing at the sink to wash instead of jumping into the shower to do it properly seems archaic. Do people really do this? Our grandparents might’ve done it back in the day when showers were not standard in homes, but we’ve moved on. I just would not feel clean.

I do it because it's much quicker than having to wipe down shower etc and I'd rather get the extra sleep as 5am is an early enough start anyways. But I spent most of my day wearing PPE anyway so even if I shower properly in the morn I'll be mildly sweaty by 7am.

HangingOver · 10/08/2023 21:25

Have you not heard of 'outside germs'?

Are these the same germs that mean MNers can't sit on their beds in their "outside clothes"

So in your entire existance this woman is the only person who didn't shower twice a day? I seriously doubt that. In most cases of people who have a smell about them it is their clothes which smell not them. Unless she has a medical problem there is no way she would smell during the day if she had a shower the previous evening.

NameChangeEmbarressed · 10/08/2023 21:33

I do both. My full shower with my hair in the morning, usually around 15 mins total. Then a quick one in the evening with my hair in a shower cap before bed, 5 mins max

Getting into bed at night without having a bath/shower is pretty gross.

And yet here many of us are, happy and healthy, and somehow managing to attract friends and even lovers Grin

Why

Your bed isn't going to smell you like a colleague

And then judge if you’ve had a morning or evening shower!
