To not shower in the morning?

mysavinggrace123 · 08/08/2023 19:56

If I could, I would have two showers, AM & PM, but tbh I actually can't afford to do this due to water bill.

I simply couldn't get into clean bed sheets of an evening not showered. (Only exception if sheets are due a wash)

But I feel horrible when I haven't showered in the morning.

Do you always shower in the morning?

I shower at night when the children are in bed. Also, I would find it abit gross going to bed with husband if I hadn’t showered since the morning.

EveSix · 13/08/2023 01:24

Fascinating.
I love a good hot, soapy, abrasive flannel wash, sometimes in the morning and sometimes at night.
I think I'm about to break MN by saying that I usually have one bath and one shower per week. A bath at the weekend, when I wash my hair, and a shower on a Wednesday. And never in the morning.
My wild hair can't cope with more frequent washing.
I go to bed unshowered / unbathed 5 nights out of 7.
I do, however, have a weird thing where I don't sweat much if at all, irrespective of temperature or effort expended. Neither do I wear any synthetic clothes, which in my opinion, really cause odour to develop.

Mumuser124 · 13/08/2023 01:29

@Hont1986

Do you suffer with excessive sweat that causes you to smell after 12 hours?

I honestly have never needed to shower 2x in a day to avoid smelling bad. I could probably push it to 3 days if I really wanted before actually needing to shower.

Showering 2xs a day is incredibly unhealthy for your skin and weakens the bodies first line of defence (your skin) against disease, germs etc..

Mumuser124 · 13/08/2023 01:31

@EveSix

I find that more healthier than people who shower 2x daily and I bet your skin is much healthier for it too.

Catsmere · 13/08/2023 01:33

I prefer showering in the evening. My bed isn't going to get manky (there's only me in it) and when I worked I had a shower as soon as I got home.

CrunchyCarrot · 13/08/2023 01:39

My normal routine, before having a back injury, was a morning shower. Meant a nice, fresh start to the day.

Now, we don't even have a shower, only a bath. I have a bath maybe every 4-5 days. I'm housebound so don't really need to bathe more often. Going out and seeing people made me sweat a lot from anxiety, and that's eliminated now, so hopefully I don't smell too much! I did lose all sense of smell just after having Covid last year, which freaked me out as I couldn't smell BO! You'd think that would be a good thing, but it's no good if you can't tell if you need a wash! But thankfully that's returned now.

theGooHasGone · 13/08/2023 02:49

I shower in the evenings and enjoy the extra time in bed in the mornings.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/08/2023 04:22

I can't function without a shower in the morning. I feel dirty all day otherwise.

I shower morning only unless it’s a gym day. Then I will have a quick sink wash and shower properly at the gym post exercise.

Yes I sweat a lot more when working, never as much at home

Hope you start to feel better and become more mobile?Flowers

Are you seriously saying that showering twice a day makes you healthier?!

Mumuser124 · 13/08/2023 12:08

@CallieQ

No, the opposite. It’s very bad for your skin.

Thatbloodyhedge · 13/08/2023 12:12

But having a flannel wash means having to wash the flannel after each use
Would use less water just to shower 🤷‍♀️

You put water in sink, soap on wet flannel, wash body part, swish flannel in water filled sink, rinse soap off body part... next body part repeat... one sink full is much less than a shower (even the 2 min Mumsnet shower). You then wash the flannel/s with the rest of the laundry.

During the floods in 2007 (Gloucestershire) when water was from the bowsers in the road, some colleagues drove 40 miles to family to have a shower - every day. Couldn't fathom or face a strip wash or sink, kettle and jug for hair. Rather drive 40 miles a day and spend all that time, than have a soapy flannel. Each to their own.

No it doesn't. No more than using a flannel in the shower means washing it every time. You just rinse it

WandaWonder · 13/08/2023 12:53

I couldn't imagine not showering in morning, and having a flannel wash to me would take longer than just having a quick shower

Thatbloodyhedge · 13/08/2023 13:23

Flannels stink
Revolting things

Not if you wash them
I use them every day with a cleanser for my face and they smell of washing powder

Thatbloodyhedge · 13/08/2023 13:31

Washing your face with them is totally different from having a sink wash on all body parts

Wsmi · 13/08/2023 14:21

RavingStyle · 10/08/2023 02:02

OK, I'll try again for those who struggle with figurative speech.

The planet is in a human induced climate crisis. An unfolding catastrophe, visibly gaining momentum each year.
2023 is shaping up to be the hottest on record. Huge wild and bush fires are on the increase, this year seen in Rhodes, Portugal, Spain and Hawaii amongst other places. California and Australia have been recently affected, too.
Last year saw a record high temperature of 40°C in the UK. The change is undoubtedly, undoubtably human induced.

On this site, spoilt westerners are proudly announcing their twice daily showers with nary a thought for anything but their own comfort. Children's futures? Who cares.

How many people in the world, living or throughout history have had this choice? A miniscule amount. It is a luxury, not a necessity. A choice. One people are happy to make without further thought.

Other planets do go through cycles of change in their climate, but none, including Mercury, are going through the rapid change as seen on earth, or human induced climate change.

So many words. So little substance. Totally hysterical.

Thatbloodyhedge · 13/08/2023 13:31

I don't get how people think they stink still
Take a clean one, use it, place it in the wash
Exactly the same as using it in the shower. Or rinse it with hot water and air dry it

Wsmi · 13/08/2023 14:21

@RavingStyle So in your world, if I have one hot shower for 20 minutes I'm ok, but pp who has two cold showers for 5 minutes is destroying the planet? I think your reasoning is slightly skewed.
And incidentally the word is “minuscule” (very small).

EveSix · 13/08/2023 15:06

Yes, Raving, I agree with you.

All of our day to day decisions impact on the climate, it is disingenuous to suggest otherwise. Stating fact isn't hectoring. I am full of gratitude whenever anyone says "And what about the climate?" in any context ‐it is a gift, a nudge to awareness.

There's this odd thing that happens on threads like these -but no point in pointing it out as it is always denied‐ a kind of competitive reflex; be it cleanliness, tidiness, ability to subside on very few calories, thriftiness, inclination to flex authoritarian muscle with one's offspring, it all arises in the MNsphere. A person who showers once a day is not unhygienic. Nor is a person who showers every other, third or fourth day. We're all fine.
