To not shower in the morning?

mysavinggrace123 · 08/08/2023 19:56

If I could, I would have two showers, AM & PM, but tbh I actually can't afford to do this due to water bill.

I simply couldn't get into clean bed sheets of an evening not showered. (Only exception if sheets are due a wash)

But I feel horrible when I haven't showered in the morning.

Do you always shower in the morning?

I shower after work (physical outdoors job) which is normally around 2pm.

That will probably give half of MN the vapours 😂

fairycakesandtea7 · 09/08/2023 07:42

I also don't shower daily as I have a physical health condition causing pain and fatigue plus eczema, I wash every other day, usually in the evening as I don't have time before work and I am better physically in the evening!

woodhill · 09/08/2023 10:18

I'd much rather shower in the morning. It is part of my routine.

Occasionally I may shower or bathe in the evening.#9: Sometimes getting in bath after dh

SamW98 · 09/08/2023 10:22

I often bath or shower twice a day if I’m going out.
Im not overweight I’m not sweaty I don’t have any MH problems, I like feeling fresh and clean before I get dressed and made up for a night out.

I couldn’t have a shower in the morning then go out for a night out with friends without another shower/change of clothes and I usually wash my hair before I go out as well.

Im quite surprised that’s not the norm tbh as it certainly is with my friends.

Same here. Just how sweaty are you if you can't go more than a few hours without needing a shower?

Really not overly sweaty. To be frank it's more about being fresh before and after sex. Ie I wouldn't want to give oral at night to someone who perhaps last showered at 6am that day (or even the night before) and after having sex at night, I'd definitely want to shower again to remove all the fluids involved in that before facing the office the next day.

Perhaps the twice a day shower crowd are the regular sex crowd rather than particularly stinky or sweaty?!

Doesn’t every woman need to shower in the morning? People who state they don’t smell - how can they be sure? I’ve worked with people who claim we all shower too much - they didn’t convince me.

2mummies1baby · 09/08/2023 10:28

I'm a sweaty sleeper so I have to shower in the mornings! As long as you don't smell in the morning, it's fine. If you do smell, and are inflicting that smell on others, then you should shower in the mornings.

Because everyone I've been up close and personal with comments how nice I smell
There's no difference between showering at 10pm and how you smell at 9am to showering at 7am and how you smell at 6pm
As long as you've had a shower at some point within 24hrs and preferably after exercise, you're likely to be fine

Fizbosshoes · 09/08/2023 11:03

I'm still unsure how people "know" how often/when a work colleague or school mum showers, I've never been asked nor do I ask anyone else. It's not something that comes up in regular conversation (unless someone was commenting their heating/shower had broken for example!)
I've been on trekking and camping holidays where I didn't shower, for days, and I lived to tell the tale!

Kerri44 · 09/08/2023 11:20

I do both, but literally bedtime one is a quick wash to be refreshed , never wash my hair at night

No, not at all. Also recently read on here that some people shave their legs every day. Tge more you shave the more you need to, eek

aintnospringchicken · 09/08/2023 13:38

I always shower in the morning.I suffer from dreadful night sweats and can wake up with sweat running down my face and chest and need to change my top because it is so damp.I couldn't contemplate getting dressed and going out without a shower.

jeaux90 · 09/08/2023 13:45

I prefer two showers a day but time constraints mean I mainly shower at night. But I'm not a sweaty sleeper (thanks HRT Grin)

Theoldwoman · 09/08/2023 14:16

I do shower twice a day, have for years and years BUT if I had to choose once a day only, it definitely would be to keep the nighttime one. I could not get into bed without a shower.

RedPony1 · 09/08/2023 14:29

I have to be out the house by 6am, stables, work, stables, home by 8:30pm. i shower in the evening, after my full day, i simply don't have the energy to get up even earlier in the morning!

tattygrl · 09/08/2023 14:47

I read something once that said studies had found that clean clothing was a better guarantee of smelling nice (as in clean, and not smelling bad) than meticulously washing every day. Obviously this wasn't about extremes, like someone never washing yet putting on clean clothes. But for people living "normal" lives with "normal" hygiene routines, very frequent washing wasn't found necessary to avoid smelling musty or sweaty; it was more about clean clothing and clean bedding.

tattygrl · 09/08/2023 14:49

As for me, my shower time changes depending on the day and what I've done/will be doing. Some mornings it's all I can do to get myself out of bed, dressed and presentable, so a shower is out of the question time-wise. Other mornings, though, if I feel sweaty or like I need a wake-up, I might shower. I most often shower in the evening, though - I feel more like I want to rinse off the day and any grime I've accumulated from work and commuting, etc.

Daphnis156 · 09/08/2023 14:55

Come on, the water bill for a shower is too low to worry about.
Whether you shower in the morning or at night you're still dirty about 23 hours a day.

It’s not the water costs though, it’s the heating of it. We can’t have a water meter so I don’t care a jot about the amount of showers from a water point of view but with oil prices so high we have really cut down on the hot water. Showering twice a day would literally double the oil usage to heat the water.

Johnisafckface · 09/08/2023 15:53

I must shower twice a day. I can't put clean clothes on unless I shower. However growing up we only showered/bathed at night in my family. In the morning we would wash up in the sink.

SwordToFlamethrower · 08/08/2023 21:41

I top and tail daily and shower when needed, which is between 2 and 4 days.

Yuk
A shower takes minutes with no grubby flannel
That's revolting

Modern people might think this, but bathing once or twice a week only was normal until the 80s or 90s

We didn't have a shower in our house when I grew up in the 1980s/90s although I remember begging my parents to get one when I was a teen with long hair because it would have been so much easier! (we had one of those shower heads with a hose that you attached to the taps) I only started having a shower regularly when I moved out of home in around the year 2000. My parents got a shower fitted almost immediately that I moved out! 🤣

Probably had a bath 2 maybe 3 times a week, and a wash the rest of the time. AFAIK we didn't smell offensive then and I'm pretty sure I don't now either - despite not meeting the accepted MN criteria of 2 showers a day!

If I've done lots of exercise or it's really hot, or I've had a period incident overnight, I might have 2 showers a day but normally I would have one

HalloumiLuvver · 09/08/2023 19:35

Dacadactyl · 09/08/2023 06:19

I think the 2 showers a day crowd must be excessively smelly/sweaty or something.

I generally shower once a day but can go 2 days without one if I'm not exercising. Only on the third day do I notice that I start smelling and even then its not terrible. I suspect I'd have to go a week without a shower before it was noticeable to anyone else.

Please don't ever put that week theory to the test. Yuk.

I used to work with a lady who only showered every 3/4 days (she said, and no mention of a strip wash in between) and there was definite odour (funky fanny and armpit BO) by day 3. Eventually HR had a word and she got better and fresher.

Purpleturtle45 · 09/08/2023 20:01

I am so shocked by the amount of people who don't shower in the morning, I couldn't possibly get out my bed and go out without showering first!
