Just finished watching Doctor Foster (yes I know I’m late to the party) after many people recommended it.

It was TERRIBLE

It should have been called “How to be a shit parent who forever damages your child.” [SPOILER ALERT] Id have run away from home too if I was the child. I usually like Surranah Jones but I just couldn’t bring myself to be on her side in this show. Aside from the fact that her and her doctor friend would be immediately struck of for calling a patient’s boyfriend to tell them she’s having an abortion and announcing it to her parents at a dinner party - I thought telling her widowed friend she had it worse than he did because her husband had an affair was despicable. What a massive, massive drama Queen! And we are supposed to believe the husband was some sort of stud with women fawning all over him. Sorry but I thought he was so unattractive and boring, he couldn’t get a woman like Jodie Comer if he was the last man on Earth.

What TV show has massively underwhelmed you?

I think I liked Mum because the characters were basically my in-laws!

Vetoncall · 06/08/2023 22:01

Breaking Bad
Peaky Blinders

I know that objectively they aren't shit series but I watched a couple of episodes of both and there was absolutely nothing I liked about them.

Series people I know keep raving about/recommending but I cba to start because I know I won't like them and life's too short:
Line of Duty
Succession
The West Wing
Mad Men
The Sopranos
Killing Eve
The Wire
Happy Valley
Outlander

Annalisatheantelope · 06/08/2023 22:02

Breaking bad. So. Boring.
Orange is the new black. First season, good. Then dull as dishwater.

HedgehogOBrien · 06/08/2023 22:04

Fleabag is one of the worst things I have watched.

Justanotherlurker · 06/08/2023 22:07

Buffy, Dexter and the detectorists

Did ANYBODY enjoy The Walking Dead beyond season 3 or 4? I thought even die-hard fans acknowledged its ever-increasing shitness and just hung in until the bitter end.

I gave up after season 6. Seasons 1 and 2 are amazing, some of my all-time favourite TV, and s3 was good, but it went steadily downhill from 4 onwards. I persevered through 5 and 6 hoping it might get back to what it was but it just got worse and worse.

SocksAndTheCity · 06/08/2023 22:17

Friends (probably the worst of the lot)
Peaky Blinders (lasted about fifteen minutes and had to switch it off)
Fleabag (smug with hateful characters)
Motherland (as above)
Mrs Maisal or whatever it is on Prime (atrociously unfunny and annoying)

I've given all of the above a chance after multiple recommendations over the years, and didn't get to the end of a single episode.

SocksAndTheCity · 06/08/2023 22:19

I would also have listed Line Of Duty and Killing Eve, but the trailers alone irritated me enough that I haven't watched a second.of either.

Confused2990 · 06/08/2023 22:20

Working moms - everyone was going on about how was so relatable for them etc
when 90 percent of the working moms were crap parents 😅

SeanMean · 06/08/2023 22:26

Bake Off…… no idea why it’s so popular!

joelmillersbackpack · 06/08/2023 22:28

Dr Foster, I watched it a few years after it came out and had heard people going on and on about it, I thought it was absolutely shite. Just really far fetched and the characters seemed to do totally unrealistic things for the drama.

Killing Eve, liked the first series but after that it was just meh, never bothered finishing it. Same with Ted Lasso.

The dialogue in Succession is very very good but ultimately I did not understand why the siblings were all scrabbling over their place in the company and wasn’t that invested in it. Couldn’t have paid me enough to be CEO.

White Lotus, so boring, not that funny, didn’t get that one.

usernother · 06/08/2023 22:31

Another vote for Breaking Bad. Ludicrous, couldn't get into it.

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/08/2023 22:55

I gave up on the walking dead halfway through season 4. Was just the same stories repeating over and over.

kirbykirby · 06/08/2023 22:56

The Bridge - Swedish crime drama. Boring, overrated rubbish.

Confused2990 · 06/08/2023 23:00

Also going to say greys anatomy ! I can’t stand Meridith and it makes it’s unbearable to watch for me.

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/08/2023 23:04

Bridgerton and Outlander.

I don't know anyone in real life that likes them.

Moneynewpence · 06/08/2023 23:10

professionalnomad · 06/08/2023 12:15

The Wire

Blasphemy! J/k. Sort of.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 06/08/2023 23:11

Mad men was sooooo boring.

I really wanted to like Ozark but it was so dark and depressing I couldn't see what was even happening and felt drained by it.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 06/08/2023 23:12

Handmaid's tale.
Fleabag
The office
That Claudia winkleman liars programme

Awittyfool · 06/08/2023 23:19

Succession.
I don’t get it. I don’t like or believe the characters and even if I did I can’t see there is any plot ( gave up after 4 episodes so maybe I have missed something).

NotTodaySanta · 06/08/2023 23:26

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/08/2023 15:41

Schitts Creek - I know they are a previously wealthy family and the daughter Alexis is very spoiled but watching her have her bratty tantrums and almost turn herself inside out as she stamped her feet really made my palm itchy Angry

Annie Murphy is excellent in kevin can fuck himself. She plays a downtrodden wife to a sitcom husband. It's not a sitcom, it's very dark.

I watched the whole thing out of misplaced loyalty. Things went downhill after 2 or 3 seasons. They should never have killed Glen, and it was really hard dull after they got rid of Rick.

Same with Vikings. Ragnar dying killed off the show.

Firefly. I should love it. I don't.

I am really trying with this but not feeling it so might cut my losses

ichundich · 06/08/2023 23:44

Killing Eve
Detectorists
Squid Game
The Thick of It
Narcos
Money Heist
Strictly
Bake-Off

TBH this is why I dislike a lot of US series' - they drag things out for far too long. Instead of saying "We have enough storylines to do X seasons with Y episodes with a finite ending of Z to wrap things up nearly for fans" they say "We have enough storylines to do X seasons of Y episodes but if it's popular then we'll just keep going and infinitum to the point at which nobody is watching any more because we've moved everyone to space in 2092 as we ran out of earth based dramas and then wrap it all up with everything after season 2 having been the main characters fever dream"

There are so many British and Irish shows that I wish had gone on longer but so many US shows that I wish had stopped sooner, I was watching the Gold channel at my parents the other day and they were watching Dinnerladies as it's one of my mum's favourites and I was astounded to discover they only made 16 episodes of it, the same with Father Ted, there's only 25 episodes of that ... Both of those series' could have run for years and years but the creators said "No, we are done, no more" whereas in the US they would have been syndicated and run for decades
