Just finished watching Doctor Foster (yes I know I’m late to the party) after many people recommended it.

It was TERRIBLE

It should have been called “How to be a shit parent who forever damages your child.” [SPOILER ALERT] Id have run away from home too if I was the child. I usually like Surranah Jones but I just couldn’t bring myself to be on her side in this show. Aside from the fact that her and her doctor friend would be immediately struck of for calling a patient’s boyfriend to tell them she’s having an abortion and announcing it to her parents at a dinner party - I thought telling her widowed friend she had it worse than he did because her husband had an affair was despicable. What a massive, massive drama Queen! And we are supposed to believe the husband was some sort of stud with women fawning all over him. Sorry but I thought he was so unattractive and boring, he couldn’t get a woman like Jodie Comer if he was the last man on Earth.

What TV show has massively underwhelmed you?

Good Omens 2. Loved the first, perfect TV and unreal chemistry between David Tennant and Michael Sheen, but series 2 was like watching fan fiction. So gutted, such thin plots and felt like fan lip service. Was so looking forward to it as have a newborn and was planning to savour it on night feeds but was so let down :(

I feel the same, can't quite bring myself to rewatch S2 yet... Yet I have rewarched S1 at least 20 times (not even joking 😳)

DerekFaker · 06/08/2023 20:09

Did ANYBODY enjoy The Walking Dead beyond season 3 or 4? I thought even die-hard fans acknowledged its ever-increasing shitness and just hung in until the bitter end.

savingherlife · 06/08/2023 20:09

Totally shocked at this. Breaking Bad is the best tv programme I have ever seen!

savingherlife · 06/08/2023 20:10

Gah, meant to quote the poster who said that BB was shit.

I thought Stranger Things was boring but probably because I not the age group it's aimed at.

Could be the same here, to be fair. I was in my late 20s when the first episode came out. I did try to watch it again a couple of years later and still couldn't get into it!

Coastalcreeksider · 06/08/2023 21:02

Marriage with Sean Bean and Nicola Walker.

All the reviews raved about it but I really disliked it.

Outlander. I cringed the whole time.

It is super cringe.

I also gave up on Game of Thrones.

Davros · 06/08/2023 21:19

I agree about Marriage. I thought it was horrible

Namechangedforthis25 · 06/08/2023 21:22

some of these are so interesting - I have to say I love most of these including friends, dr foster, SATC, stath let’s flats

but I would say I really really didn’t get the hype with fleabag. I just didn’t get it - why was it the best thing since sliced bread - it wasn’t edge of your seat stuff nor was it that funny. Please Can someone explain it to me if possible?

Bearpawk · 06/08/2023 21:32

That gallows pole thing. This is England 1776. Awful.

Iwishmynamewassheilah · 06/08/2023 21:33

I’ll get flamed for this, but sixth commandment. It got such hype. Well acted, granted but I was bored. The guy was a psychopath and got caught. End of. No dramatic tension whatsoever. I lost all interest completely once it got to the court segment.

Mum was great and so was him and her which I think are written by the same person. But I couldnt get through 2 episodes of marriage.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 06/08/2023 21:36

@Iwishmynamewassheilah I though The Sixth Commandment was just too long, it needed to be two episodes max.

Newbornmum23 · 06/08/2023 21:37

@CrowleyAndHisSexyWalk I rewatched season 1 for pure comfort after the disappointment of season 2. The difference is just huge, even down to the costuming and hair and makeup! They all look like they're in cosplay in season 2! Plot was so pointless and they overdid the trope of "the spiky one loves the sunshiney one" with Nina and Maggie when Crowley and Aziraphale more than cover that. Sigh. It really felt like they'd trawled the fan fiction web, and fan art, and just made it based on that.

Hope season 3 is a return to form, but I just found the pacing so wierd and the plot so thin that the writing at times felt like it was just stringing things along for the climax...which wasn't good.

Newbornmum23 · 06/08/2023 21:38

@CrowleyAndHisSexyWalk oh and I think I've watched it about the same amount of times 😅 was amazing TV, and had such a perfect ending, I'm pretending season 2 doesn't exist.

neverbeenskiing · 06/08/2023 21:38

I hated After Life. Really hated it. It was just trope after trope after trope, self-indulgent, lazy and utterly unoriginal. I particularly hated the scenes with the therapist. So many people rave about it but I felt like I was watching a different show to everyone else.

Beaverbridge · 06/08/2023 21:40

Peaky Blinders

Highdaysandholidays1 · 06/08/2023 21:44

@neverbeenskiing I agree, I've been in that position, my husband died and I didn't relate to how the Ricky Gervais character acted at all or the very strange plots. It didn't quite work for me, although it obviously did for lots of people. I only watched the first series though and that was enough.

TiredMum30 · 06/08/2023 21:45

Yellowjackets, it was really disappointing

BodegaSushi · 06/08/2023 21:45

LetMeEnfoldYou · 06/08/2023 12:38

The Wire. So boring. And I don't rate Idris Elba at all, or the guy who then ended up in The Affair - which was another letdown.

The Affair should have ended after the second series when all was revealed.

Why shows continue to think they can build something up, drag it on for more than a series, close it, then continue as if nothing happened/suddenly create a new mystery is beyond me. It's never worked.

I like Lesley Manville so I watched Mum but oh that girlfriends voice was so annoying, her son was just as irritating. The wimpy brother and his appalling, nasty wife, surely no one's that unlucky with their family.

I kept wondering why mum just didn't walk out the front door and leave the lot of them.

VanillaImpulse · 06/08/2023 21:48

I just came on here to say After Life! Everyone was raving on about it and I was like wtf?! I usually like Ricky Gervais but hated him in this - so rude to everyone trying to help him, self indulgent. Also who has millions of videos like those he watched endlessly?! I only liked the postie! Grin

Also agree wholeheartedly with bloody Friends! What a load of old shit!!

Willmafrockfit · 06/08/2023 21:50

loved Kelly in Mum

gave up on Peaky Blinders are one series.
Gave up on Better Call Saul immediately.
gave up on Ozark after one series, i think,

they go on and on.

White Lotus. Apparently the second season is better but after struggling through the first season and being utterly bored I couldn’t do any more.

Also Normal People which was such a hit during lockdown? Did not get that at all and couldn’t finish it.

I think people were bored in lockdown, a lot of stuff passed that wouldn't if it was released now.

I agree that series 2 of white lotus was much better, but that's just compared to the first. It was an entertaining watch, but if 'character stories' is not your style of TV show then don't bother.

She did in the end.

The writer seems to specialise in those awkward, but can't say anything, relationships, people living lives of quiet desperation. He exaggerates, that almost the point, but lots of people recognise them. He doesn't do sit-com cozy, despite first impressions.
