Just finished watching Doctor Foster (yes I know I’m late to the party) after many people recommended it.

It was TERRIBLE

It should have been called “How to be a shit parent who forever damages your child.” [SPOILER ALERT] Id have run away from home too if I was the child. I usually like Surranah Jones but I just couldn’t bring myself to be on her side in this show. Aside from the fact that her and her doctor friend would be immediately struck of for calling a patient’s boyfriend to tell them she’s having an abortion and announcing it to her parents at a dinner party - I thought telling her widowed friend she had it worse than he did because her husband had an affair was despicable. What a massive, massive drama Queen! And we are supposed to believe the husband was some sort of stud with women fawning all over him. Sorry but I thought he was so unattractive and boring, he couldn’t get a woman like Jodie Comer if he was the last man on Earth.

What TV show has massively underwhelmed you?

The Wire. So boring. And I don't rate Idris Elba at all, or the guy who then ended up in The Affair - which was another letdown.

MrsFinkelstein · 06/08/2023 12:39

Was going to come on and say Dr Foster purely from the thread title before I'd even read your post.

I usually love those kind of programmes but I couldn't get past episode 2. I couldn't find anything in either lead character that was in anyway engaging or likeable. The husband character was a total shit but I couldn't really blame him!!

Also - Outlander. Didn't get past episode 3. Huge disappointment. Huge.

The ghosts remake gets better once you stop comparing it to the original (and stop thinking about izombie). It's not as good as the original but I still enjoy it.

Mad men. I gave it years and was just bored.

Felt the same about Mad Man, it was shite! I persevered thinking something good must happen but no. Like watching paint dry!

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2023 12:42

I find Suranne Jones clipped way of speak jarring I couldn't watch Dr Foster .

Mochudubh · 06/08/2023 12:42

MasterBeth · 06/08/2023 12:09

Fleabag.

(I don't think "it was shit", but I didn't care for it and everyone else loves it )

Same here. I managed about 15 minutes of the first episode and decided life was too short.

Kabbalah · 06/08/2023 12:42

Bridgerton and Dr Foster : arse water !.

DerekFaker · 06/08/2023 12:44

babbscrabbs · 06/08/2023 12:15

Bridgerton. Boring and not as clever as it thinks it is.

Same here! And the oh so 'clever' use of modern songs. Yawwwwn.

Also: Homeland. The first series was pretty good, but that particular storyline should have ended properly there. Even Clare Danes' acting was ropey at times.

Oh and Sandman. Boring, confusing and more boring. Once they switched characters halfway through (after the weird episode set in the American diner), I lost what little interest I had in it.

I'm not even going to bother with Good Omens. The trailers look annoying and smug enough.

Lentilweaver · 06/08/2023 12:51

Totally agree with Dr Foster. Everybody on it was unhinged. Course it is based on Medea. But still...

Womencanlift · 06/08/2023 12:51

Same as a few mentioned above - Killing Eve and Fleabag were not great

Another one that seemed to get a lot of love and I thought was really slow and boring was The White Lotus

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/08/2023 13:02

Rabbithole. Like 24 but with nothing actually happening.

The Consultant. Lost interest before anything happened.

Citadel. OK, I get it. They're all bad people and he can't remember stuff until he does. And then more people get tortured/killed. And then repeat for the next episode.

The Patient. You know what, I don't actually care.

Hello Tomorrow. Fuck all happened. Like fuck all.

Sandman. Well, it made me sleepy.

Ted Lasso

The first series was ok, but gave up on the second.

Also, Schit's Creek. I watched the first few episodes and then gave up.

I find Suranne Jones clipped way of speak jarring I couldn't watch Dr Foster .

Obviously I meant speaking ! I didn't watch gentleman Jack either.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 06/08/2023 13:08

@WeetabixTowels finding Killing Eve tedious is my guilty secret as everyone seems to love it. Totally awful program.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 06/08/2023 13:10

Friends.

I don’t get the hype at all.

WandaWonder · 06/08/2023 13:12

MasterBeth · 06/08/2023 12:09

Fleabag.

(I don't think "it was shit", but I didn't care for it and everyone else loves it )

Same, didn't hate it but didn't see the fuss either

WandaWonder · 06/08/2023 13:13

WeetabixTowels · 06/08/2023 12:27

Yeah I didn’t get it either.

<whispers> I also didn’t like Killing Eve

I think I watched about 4 killing eve episodes and gave up

SophiaElise · 06/08/2023 13:13

Friends.

lastminutewednesday · 06/08/2023 13:14

Schitts creek

Also the soprano's though on paper I should love it. I've tried to watch it twice and given up

IndiganDop · 06/08/2023 13:15
  1. Looked beautiful, interesting premise, complete bollocks. Lots of netflix dramas are like that; too convoluted and intellectual for their own good. They all also go on way too long when they should have stopped at series 1 (1899 notable exception). Designated Survivor, Homeland being prime examples. Excellent first series then downhill all the way.

Succession. I have watched the whole first series and beginning of series 2 as DH is enjoying it. I don't get it.

Dombasle · 06/08/2023 13:16

Friends. Absolute drivel.

The Big Bang Theory. Not even remotely funny.

IndiganDop · 06/08/2023 13:16

Why has "1899" formatted itself weirdly? Apologies.

CherryMaDeara · 06/08/2023 13:18

Sex and the City
Will and Grace
Seinfeld

BrendaMcPherson · 06/08/2023 13:19

Line of Duty. I couldn't get past the first couple of episodes of series 1. Maybe I should have stuck with it, but as someone upthread has already said - life is too short.

10HailMarys · 06/08/2023 13:23

Fleabag. Absolutely loathed it.

I couldn’t get into Breaking Bad at all. I didn’t think it was shit or anything, but I just couldn’t begin to care about any of the characters or what might happen to them.

I also couldn’t get into Stranger Things, even though on paper it’s the kind of thing I should absolutely love. I might actually give that another try though, in case I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind!
