To ask for the TV shows that were highly built up but you found to be shit?

Just finished watching Doctor Foster (yes I know I’m late to the party) after many people recommended it.

It was TERRIBLE

It should have been called “How to be a shit parent who forever damages your child.” [SPOILER ALERT] Id have run away from home too if I was the child. I usually like Surranah Jones but I just couldn’t bring myself to be on her side in this show. Aside from the fact that her and her doctor friend would be immediately struck of for calling a patient’s boyfriend to tell them she’s having an abortion and announcing it to her parents at a dinner party - I thought telling her widowed friend she had it worse than he did because her husband had an affair was despicable. What a massive, massive drama Queen! And we are supposed to believe the husband was some sort of stud with women fawning all over him. Sorry but I thought he was so unattractive and boring, he couldn’t get a woman like Jodie Comer if he was the last man on Earth.

What TV show has massively underwhelmed you?

Sex and the City, self indulgent drivel.

Also agree about the husband in Dr Foster.

I think there's many programs that improve as a series progresses... but just as many that get even worse so its hard to know what to persevere with.

Breaking bad. Hated it. But I did love Ozark and I think it's just because I'm unbelievably shallow and quite fancy Jason Bateman but can't abide seeing the breaking bad guy in stained y-fronts.

Hated the lord of the rings series on Amazon, I only got one show in and it was dull.

Agree with Kimmy Schmidt. Would add Stath Lets Flats and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I should technically love both as they are right in my ballpark but never managed to get past the first episode.

I think most British TV drama is dire. Obvious storylines. Slow build and then rushing to get all the plot in at the end. "I am acting" style acting - from both Eton/RADA types and ex-soap stars (the two types of actors the UK produces). I try watching stuff that people recommend but quality is so poor.

I didn't enjoy Line of Duty either, @BrendaMcPherson . So disappointed as I love Vicky McClure and Martin Compston.

I read a lot of raving reviews on another thread about The Bear. Tried it, made me feel stressed!

Succession. Found it so dull.

To be honest there's not many TV shows I do enjoy. I think I have a short attention span!

Doctor Foster was one of those programmes that was good to watch at the time, when it was weekly and you could follow to commentary on the radio and at the water cooler at work! I can imagine it not being as good binged, there is so much good binge-able TV now, it was a good mid week terrestrial TV show, it's not a Netflix "blockbuster".

Probably better giving up then getting all the way through the 6 series and having to deal with the disappointment of the way it ended.

Succession. I'm trying now but only on season 2 and just think it's boring!

On Schitts creek - I thought it was shit till I got about 5 episodes in then it became wonderful

Succession may be my favourite TV show of all time! Definitely in the top 5.

I only watched one episode of Fleabag and couldn't be arsed to watch the rest. Might try it again just for the hot priest.

Doctor Foster was so bad it was good, I loved it. Found it very gripping nonsense; series 2 went a bit too far though.

Can't think of anything else, loads of things don't grip me, but I do recommend Sex Education if you haven't watched it yet.

Bridgeton. Unwatchable drivel except for the amazing fabulous costumes and production values.

Succession is just arseholes wearing suits and getting in and out of cars. Who gives a fuck.

Re Doctor Foster - the mistress HATED Dr Foster so why didn’t she report her for breach of confidentiality? She could prove it by getting her parents to say “Yes she blabbed it out at dinner”. Career over!

It also REALLY bothered me that in season 2 we are meant to believe he new couple live in thaw house with a toddler, the house made of entirely of glass, no stair gates and low down ornaments everywhere.

All the characters were awful even the teenage boy - although IRL he’d be in therapy 40 hours a week because of his scumbag parents.

The West Wing. Full of gobby, loud characters who are all totally unlikeable.

I watched SATC the films were horrific especially 2 where they clearly hated kim Cattrall and made her a menopausal harpie, so much for the sisterhood eh oh and 2 was culturally insensitive and racist !

Schitts Creek - mildly amusing but totally overrated

I absolutely hate Friends. I find it to be torturous.
