There are so many threads now where people feel they might be ‘outed’. Have you ever recognised somebody or been recognised on Mumsnet?

I’ve only been on the site a few months and thought I knew who someone was and up they pop on the very first page of this thread saying they’ve been recognised. Pretty certain I know who they are and it is indeed a small world. I’ll be more circumspect about what I post as I have no desire to be recognised.

I'm now so paranoid that I immediately thought your "small world" comment must mean you were talking about me until I realised 1 - I don't appear until page 4 of the thread 2 - I haven't said I've been outed 3 - I name changed for this thread 😅

For various reasons I think it's either not a reference to me or I'm not who @Theseventhmagpie thinks I am, but what a great ending to this thread if I am! Care to settle the debate @Theseventhmagpie ?!

Sorry, yes, you had other reasons too. But the page number alone wouldn't necessarily do it.

I have been outed on here. During the worst time of my life, my lovely cousin (who I had not talked to in decades) recognized me and provided tremendous support over the next few weeks. It was an incredible gift that she had the courage to reach out and I'm eternally grateful.

I was also stalked and doxed here and on Reddit and Tattle, during that same horrendous time. It is amazing the lengths people will go to, in order to see if you are real or a troll. Posting pictures of me at work, trolling all of my past posts and user names (they connected them), picking apart every single post I'd made in the many years I've been here. Posting on funeral notice and picking apart the wording, stalking my Facebook and LinkedIn. Such hard work to kick someone when they are at their lowest.

I've not posted here for months now, but finally came to realize that the support I've found here is more precious than the vile outpouring from those people.

Oh that's so cruel! I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

I recognised someone multiple times! I think it’s easy to be recognised in here unless you completely adopt a different persona (which defeats the purpose).
Anyway this nasty person (who had been nasty to me for a long long time) found out some bad news about her husband and his behaviour (which wasn’t a surprise to me) anyway when I outed her she went crazy and deleted the name and all the posts which then made it even more obvious it was her 🙄

It did make life easier for us as she disowned us as a result and it was what we were wanting for a long time!

I'm fairly certain friends have spotted odd posts and recognised me but never let on.

I've only had 1 issue being "outed" (or stalked/harassed) so much so that I had to get police involved and had over 80 files of evidence for if we need to take it to court. Lucky that's all stored with the Met police now and they tracked their details with MN cooperation so we can progress the case if need be.
