to not want my 4mo to wear a football kit?

Lighthearted-ish. Bickering this morning... DH has dressed baby in an England babygrow. It was a present from his best friend when they were newborn. It was given with a chuckle, so I see it as something to wear in the house when football is on, for a cute photo, but not to be seen in out of the house.

Today DH has dressed 4mo and I will be out all day. I want to change him but DH thinks I'm being a massive snob.

YABU - you are being a snob. It's just a baby.
YANBU - I am cringing in solidarity and feel your pain. Get him changed now!

NOPE - YANBU

We we’re given these types of things too. They were put on for football day of the specific team - cute picture… whipped straight off again. But yeah, what an eyesore lol - hate them!

LlynTegid · 04/08/2023 13:27

What if your DS chooses in later life to embrace his ancestry if any is from other than England?

In any case, tasteless colours, at least the white kit looks reasonable.

GamGam · 04/08/2023 13:44

Yes, you're a snob, like me. That is hideous. Football is an awful sport that generates violence and racism. Hate the sport and wouldn't be seen dead in a tacky football kit.

Womblegreen · 04/08/2023 14:30

You are out all day - with the baby in England kit, or are they with Dad?

If you are with the baby then YANBU to change them, if they are with Dad YABU, be grateful that he is hands on and leave them to it!

In future I would use the baby grow kit as nightwear, so it’s in the wash for days out!

At least you admit to being a snob, an almighty one at that. Thankfully the majority of the world disagree that it's "an awful sport". I've had a season ticket at my club since the eighties and I can tell you I have witnessed violence once and once only. And racism? Never. Not once. Zilch. This is what happens when you're spoon fed by the media. 🙄

Because a good 90% of MN are snobs tbh

Spot on.

Actually racism in football is a huge problem as news journalists have reported. Not a media lead fiction. Just because you haven’t personally witnessed it, doesn’t mean black players and officials don’t experience it. Same with violence. It’s ok to defend your hobby but let’s not deny the problems.

Be happy your DH is involved, baby doesn't care.

LTB
Seriously.

Firstly I couldn’t marry a “football” person and secondly anyone that thinks that awful synthetic fabric is acceptable should be shot.

🙄🙄

Involved?

God, the bar is low for men.

The world cup is on. Yabu.

Is it?
Where have I been? I’ve completely missed that!
Op, come and live where I live. You’ll miss all the footballing news.

I first started going to watch my team in the 80s. My first experience of racism was of standing on the terraces and hearing the fans around me refer to a black player on the opposite team as a black bastard. Someone nudged the main offender and gestured towards me, a black female. Main shouty bloke then said, "oh sorry love, I don't mean you". I could give you plenty more examples, but you'd probably say I was making them up...

neleh87 · 04/08/2023 15:24

I wouldn't choose it personally, but if I was given it as a gift then I'd put it on baby once or twice, take a photo. Baby will have grown out of it before there's chance to wear it again.
Put it at the bottom of the washing basket maybe!

DramaticBananas · 04/08/2023 15:25

Yes, you're a football snob. I was too but after a few years and attending countless under 10s football matches and training sessions, I can see the good side. I now search out the next season's kit for an easy Xmas present. Would it bother you so much if it were a rugby onsie?

Baba197 · 04/08/2023 15:25

I’d hate that as well! Take another outfit and change them once out if the house!

Sparklesocks · 04/08/2023 15:33

my DP’s family bought us sleepsuits for their football team, I’m not a big fan myself but it’s just a bit of fun. People finger care what your baby wears.

Sparklesocks · 04/08/2023 15:33

*people rarely care

pumpkinspice87 · 04/08/2023 15:34

Just change your little one as soon as you can find a changing area when you are out and tell your DH "oh sorry we had an explosive nappy. Oh dear. What a shame."

Katiesaidthat · 04/08/2023 15:34

My husband´s brother and sister gave me football stuff for my then baby girl. Never wore it. She grew out of it and I donated it.

GCSister · 04/08/2023 15:37

MN hates football and particularly men who support football, so I don't think you'll ever get a balanced response on a thread like this

pictoosh · 04/08/2023 15:39

I mean just on an objective level, football tops are ug. They're horrible, shiny, brash and tasteless. When there are soooo many cute kids' clothes out there, why would you put your baby in something that resembles a work van?

pictoosh · 04/08/2023 15:41

I see a football top and I smell a disposable barbecue.

GCSister · 04/08/2023 15:43

Ha ha - fair enough. I don't much care.
