I can’t help but feel that when you’re in a position of privilege and a celeb of any description, you shouldn’t by asking small independent businesses for free shit...

But, if you do, at least own it. The video of her belittling “the cake lady” really shows what a tramp she actually is.

Cakegate: Ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley hits back after 'bizarre' row with Three Little Birds Bakery over free cakes

Three Little Birds Bakery said it declined a request from an events agency to make a cake and 100 cupcakes for the birthday of a "well-known" celebrity - later revealed to be Tyldesley - in exchange for promotion on social media and in a magazine.

She didn't look real, she looked like an android. I hope it's filters.

I thought she looked like she’s had a facelift with the weird snatched jawline

PatientZorro · 04/08/2023 09:27

Karma’s a bitch isn’t it Catherine…..

I worked for a builder he got contacted by channel 4 about the programme that does needy peoples property up and then they surprise them at the end with the newly renovated house.

All labour and materials to be supplied free of charge. I've seen the programme and the trades people do not get recognition.

He wasn't in a position to do this, but I thought it was immensely cheeky to ask.

That is indeed cheeky (exploitation!) bit nothing to do with this really.

Do you know, yesterday I thought a what a storm in a teacup over a misunderstanding, she can't have known the company were asking for the cakes for free. But now I've watched her response and 😬 what a dick 😆

I thought similar as this was flagged up here the other day just thought it was gossip. Her response is awful.

It seems like her work must be limited now after leaving Corrie and she had her daughter last year so may be on some sort of maternity leave.

Her husband (sorry if anyone’s mentioned this before) is a photographer (too many of them around!) and is the co founder of Brood magazine.

What happened to ‘be kind’.

Hopefully it died a death. Why? Because it was principally used to shut down and minimise women's opinions. I hate the term Karen just as much.

Since when was having an opinion not allowed? If I was an influencer (making a lot of money from flogging products to my sheep), I'd expect some people not to like me. That's absolutely fine and comes with the job.

I particularly hate be kind used on Facebook. If you don't agree with what I've posted, I'm very happy to hear your opinions and reasons. That's how a rational debate works. I refuse to be told to be kind because I have posted a slightly critical (and polite) opinion of a public person.

PS I hate be kind just in case it wasn't clear....

HALLELUIA! 👏

Snazzysausage · 04/08/2023 09:35

Where do you start with this one
Obviously an events company is not going to arrange a bash on the off chance their client and her husband are available,so utter bullshit that she wasn't aware
The second back peddling email to the bakery suggests she knew all about it as it states their client was always going to cover expenses(how generous!) Definitely not what the original request said at all.
If the Manchester hotel hosting this classy sounding event (sparkles, flamingos and camp as tits)have any sense they'll have payment agreed in writing and a hefty deposit.
Lastly I wonder what sort of performers have been supplied to CT,as far as I know she's not done a one woman show tour or similar.Maybe for reasons unknown she has previously been supplied with a flock of flamingos trained in the art of synchronised tap dancing! 🦩🦩🦩

Un7breakable · 04/08/2023 09:35

Her response was awful and to claim that the company had offered to pay when everyone has seen the email is just foolish.

Dixiechickonhols · 04/08/2023 09:37

The cake business simply shared the request and their response on their own fairly small social media. Other small bakeries tend to follow each other and share and so they shared and then it was picked up by mainstream press.
All the details were in that first email, the bakery didn’t name her. Surely if you are trawling for freebies a more discreet first email to see if you get a bite would be prudent.
She was trying to fleece a small business which isn’t ‘kind’. They predominantly target small female run companies like cake, balloons, boutiques.

Neverseenbefore · 04/08/2023 09:41

The events company themselves also weren’t being paid. They too were doing it for “exposure”. I suspect CT isn’t particularly wealthy. She left Corrie years ago and hasn’t done anything since. She probably doesn’t have a PR company either to advise her.

LancreWowhawk · 04/08/2023 09:41

I'm always generally pissed off by the whole idea of influencers AKA begging for a living, but the thing that really irritated me about this whole debacle was when NVRLND tried to claim that they would never ask for anything for free (oh no deary me, not us guv, we would always pay) when it is right there in black and white that they actually did. The barefaced lying was just breathtaking.

KatherineSwynford1403 · 04/08/2023 09:42

Youcancallitpettybutsee · 03/08/2023 22:55

The bakery has got so much more exposure from this email than it ever would have got from donating to catherine

Ha ha I like that! I'd have it for my party!

MillWood85 · 04/08/2023 09:26

Oh the Be Kind brigade have arrived... hurrah.

Next on MN Bingo is the "remember Caroline Flack...."" then we can shout full house.

Hmm

quite.

Be kind….
code for “shut the fuck up if you don’t agree with me”

Oh the irony

Aprilx · 04/08/2023 09:49

I have been a bit puzzled about this as I was thinking of Katherine Kelly from Coronation Street and I was thinking she has gone on to do plenty of stuff, I was obviously very disappointed as I liked her. I am glad to have been confused, I realise I have never heard of Catherine Tyldesley before.

Dixiechickonhols · 04/08/2023 09:50

Magssss · 04/08/2023 09:15

Bit of an aside, but I really worry about the children of influencers. It strikes me as such an unhealthy environment to be born into (elaborate birth announcements are just the beginning). The children just seem such an afterthought to the most important thing which is the parent keeping on top of content/likes/responding to comments/taking 1000s of photos to get just the right one. the children have no say about maybe wanting to grow up privately. Imagine that was your mum or dad doing that to you. I find the whole thing so narcissistic and concerning.

I really think children being shared without regulation on sm will blow up in a few years with backlash from the grown up children and an overall feeling of how was this allowed.
The rules are strict for children performing on stage/tv (I’ve been a licensed chaperone) and yet there’s no equivalent for sm. Some of the oversharing is massively private eg medical conditions, special educational needs and has potential to blow up eg if child applies for normal job or travel visa and doesn’t declare something.

Definitely true, Canadian businessman Galen Weston paid for all of Charles/ PH/PW's polo for years. From their hats on their heads down to the nails on the ponies feet. Galen even flew wood from Canada to build stables to house their ponies at Belvedere.

They are very grabby around the Sultan Of Brunei and his family too (as was the Queen, who happily accepted very grand jewellery from the Sultan)

A bit off topic here more to do with acronyms but I had to work out who or what the heck PW and PH are. I presume it's Harry and William, which would have made more sense than the acronym!

Back to acronyms, CT is an absolute CF.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 04/08/2023 09:52

CT wasn’t kind to a bakery whose reputation she tried to trash, was she?

I reckon these CF grifters work on the basis that 'if you don't ask, you don't get' and fully expect that, even if most decline, a few will roll over and give them what they want.

However, I don't think they count on those who decline going public with the request as, to them, these people are just nameless pawns to make their world nicer, and the ones who say No are just an irrelevance to be ignored, with no right or expectation to make clear their unhappiness at being treated that way.

jenbj · 04/08/2023 09:52

Oh my goodness, I've just watched the video. What was she thinking of. She comes across terribly. So rude.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 04/08/2023 09:53

I'd have claimed (later) that I must have misread 'camp as tits' as 'damp as kits' - and stirred in a load of cat wee Grin

PatientZorro · 04/08/2023 09:53

Let them eat cake!

Dixiechickonhols · 04/08/2023 09:55

That’s probably another side to the story too. If planning company Neverland were working for free then in all likelihood the person writing the email was some young graduate on an unpaid internship or work experience. I know big firms have moved for this to be paid but in smaller firms it’s still very much unpaid and often exploitation.

Hapshetshut · 04/08/2023 09:55

Has she applied for bake off yet ?

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 04/08/2023 09:57

I meant to add: it's absolutely shameless and ridiculous to blame your attempted griftee for their alleged desire for attention. It's a bit like a burglar breaking into your house at night and then, when he surprises you and you whack him with a frying pan in terror, claiming that you were just there lying in wait for somebody to intrude so that you could participate in a bit of gratuitous violence to make yourself feel important.

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 09:57

On sky. Cringe. It certainly doesn't exude professionalism.

DiolchamFawr · 04/08/2023 09:57

Didn’t she show us who she really is a few years back when she started posting pound shop Mrs Merton videos that were called out for being misogynistic.
She was accused of portraying middle aged women as hairy, incontinent and thick.
The videos are still out there
