To take all the reduced meat?

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

😂

You ask our opinion and the general consensus is that it was greedy and you should have left some for others, but you keep defending yourself. You were in the wrong. There is a cost of living crisis right now, and you don't know who was waiting and if they have enough money to feed their family for that day. They might have been relying on that meat for dinner that evening. But, at least you've got a freezer full for the month, eh?

BackT · 03/08/2023 16:23

There was a thread on here where someone did this and then gave it all to their dog! Well out of order.

OP clearly minted and just super tight.

BarnacleBeasley · 03/08/2023 15:38

I would have left some for others. You knew people were waiting for it.

same, it would have felt rude and highly cheeky really!

EhrlicheFrau · 03/08/2023 16:24

If I could clearly see others waiting then I wouldn't have taken it all.

Luxell934 · 03/08/2023 16:24

Depends to be honest, if your really struggling, like need to use the food bank sometimes because you’ve got no money after bills then yes do grab a bargain when you see one.

If you could actually afford the items full price but we’re just being granny then yes you were being unreasonable.

I’ve never seen such good deals on meat though even with a yellow sticker.

Luxell934 · 03/08/2023 16:24

*being grabby not granny

Alloveragain3 · 03/08/2023 16:25

Depends on how financially hard up I was.

If really struggling and I had kids mouths to feed I'd have done the exact same.

As this isn't the case, I'd have taken 1 or 2 things from the reduced area, not gone to the butchers, and left the rest for others.

BusyLemon · 03/08/2023 16:25

Technically you haven’t gone anything wrong, but it’s an incredibly selfish thing to do. Stickered food might mean the difference between eating or not eating for families, not just your own, and to keep it all for yourself is greedy.

OP of nobody waiting, take the lit, if loads of people also after a bargain think that was tight. You could’ve got yourself half the amount and still some really well.

Whattheactualwhatnow · 03/08/2023 16:26

Typos galore 🙈

You’re legally fine OP. Fuck everyone else!

do you vote Tory btw?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 16:27

I'm not minted in the slightest unfortunately
Not drip feeding but put it this way I have less than £200 to last the month

OP posts:
BlastedIce · 03/08/2023 16:27

I wouldn’t have done it!

Fbshe · 03/08/2023 16:28

I hope you need it more than the others.

If you don’t need it and you are just selfish… I hope you forgot to shut the freezer door properly:

Lou670 · 03/08/2023 16:28

No I wouldn't have and I also would have told the people waiting where the butcher had placed down the green tub. I have been there where people like you have taken the lot. It is pure greed. I was at the front once and at the back was a Mum with a toddler and a baby in the seat of the trolley. She couldn't get near so I grabbed some things for her so she didn't miss out. Not sure what the point of your thread is about, to clear your conscience?

BlastedIce · 03/08/2023 16:28

Pressed send too soon!

the reason I wouldn’t do it, is that you’ve got a month worth of food, but someone might need some for that night and not been able to get any.

thedancingbear · 03/08/2023 16:28

Do you want to ask for the thread to be deleted, OP? It’s terribly outing.

Chickenkeev · 03/08/2023 16:29

I assume also that people there or thereabouts on the poverty line have neither the space nor the money for storing a chest freezer which (again, i assume, would be needed for that much meat.

Andifeelheavymetal · 03/08/2023 16:29

By buying enough for the month you won't be topping up for a month so no, I don't see any problem with what you did and I suspect those waiting would have done the same if they'd been canny enough

supersop60 · 03/08/2023 16:29

I went to the supermarket yesterday evening, being a bit broke this month, and hoping for something to give the kids this evening, and I saw a person walk out with armfuls of meat. I guess it's beans on toast for a week, then...

This isn't actually true - but it could be for someone.
OP was selfish.

Hankunamatata · 03/08/2023 16:29

So he filled up the tub ready to take to the fridge?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 16:30

There's so many Morrison's in our local area (Manchester) so it's not like I go and hunt down every single one
It's just the closest one to me
