To take all the reduced meat?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:37

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

@TeaAndTattoos it's not about who is in the right or wrong
I did that because it was good for me and my family
Someone else might not do it
I didn't ask if I was right ..I asked would anyone else do the same

Yeah and the OP goes once a month to do the same thing. Why is she any less deserving than they are?

Because they leave food for others to buy, OP dosent.

@TeaAndTattoos your changing the narrative to suit yourself here.
I didn't take everything
I took the things I wanted /could use for my family
There was plenty of other things left
If you walked in Tesco today and there was 1 chicken left and you wanted it ...would you leave it incase charmaine pops in later and wants to feed her kids a chicken for tea ?
Or would you take said chicken as that is what you wanted ?

I’m really not I’m going off based what you said and in your own words “you didn’t take fish, lamb, soup or sandwiches” that’s the choices that you left other people with because you thought only about yourself. Well that’s a bit of a stupid scenario to use because that’s not at all like what you did if there was more people waiting to look at the reduced price food I wouldn’t be greedy and take everything I would leave other people with food to choose from. Taking the last item on the shelf is a lot different to what you did.

Also there wasn't a queue behind me
They were stood halfway down the store at the reduced fridge
I walked up to the butchers
There was nobody stood behind me

You knew they where there and what the where waiting for

TeaAndTattoos · 04/08/2023 08:51

@Chickenkeev too good to go is a brilliant thing I love using it when I can afford do.

Just own it op what you did was greedy and wrong and this post is just you trying to brag about it and you really thought that everyone would be supportive of what you did and would clap on you on the back and tell you that they would do the same thing but instead your right and deservedly having your arse handed to for being selfish and greedy and gloating about it because you decided that your need is greater than anyone else’s.

Plumbear2 · 04/08/2023 09:10

In the title you describe taking all the reduced meat. What does that leave, soup, sandwiches? Other people also need to feed there kids a proper meal, thanks to you they couldn't.

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 09:11

ballipp · 04/08/2023 08:41

@Chickenkeev also I don't have the money to buy a months worth of meat in one go -hence buying it at 90% off

But you did? It was cheap but unless i am misunderstanding, you got a lot of cheap meat for the freezer, at cut price to freeze, enough for a month?

Well I think you have your answer. No most decent people would not do the same.

Istanbulnotconstantinople72 · 04/08/2023 09:22

It's selfish and you know it. Would I have done the same? Fuck no, and I love a bargain.

To be fair though, the OP now won't be buying up any reduced items for a couple of weeks so that leaves more for other people on other days.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 09:25

I personally don't think it's selfish
Others might that's totally fine-everyone's entitled to their own opinion
But I don't think taking things that we need /will use and will mean I have extra money spare for other things this month is selfish
I didn't empty the fridge of everything
I took things we needed -which is the whole point of them reducing items
No point going around in circles as we all have different opinions.

I go once a month ,sometimes once every month to hopefully find some things we can use.
I don't go daily

*every other month

If you didn’t think it was selfish then what was the point of this thread other than to gloat because it’s abundantly clear that you don’t think you did anything wrong.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 08:40

@Chickenkeev who is bitching about the others who are potentially poorer ?
I didn't take everything either -I took things we liked and would use to save money

Why does your thread title say you took all the reduced meat?

because you did?

BernardSure · 04/08/2023 09:35

I get it ballipp. It's a damning indictment on society today that these discussions are even having to take place and things can get so heated about access to the fundamentals of life - food. If it was a choice between being able to feed my family, or feed everyone else's family I'd choose my own family every time. I'm sorry that you are in the position where you are being forced to take this decision.

Sorry, i'm poor as fuck but i don't buy this. For whatever reason, OP has decided to gloat about her thriftiness. It didn't work out well for her here. I feed my family but not at the expense of others. Or certainly not intentionally so. And IF i was doing that, i definitely wouldn't be on here gloating about it. It leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.

DrSbaitso · 04/08/2023 09:42

They don't reduce items because people need them. They reduce them because they're about to hit their expiration date and they'd rather make a lower sale than no sale at all. Nobody is suggesting that you did anything wrong to the supermarket.

You can't say that...it's sensible!

How is sharing a bargain gloating?
When Facebook has pages upon pages of bargain Hunter pages
Surely this helps people who didn't realise things got reduced so much
This post wasn't so I had to defend buying food for my family
Not buying reduced food as someone else "might " need it more doesn't make you a saint

You're digging a hole here. Don't expect good results. Your choices are your own, lots will disagree.

Daphnis156 · 04/08/2023 09:54

If you are like this in all other aspects of your life, you must be fun to be with...

If this was a post about trying to help people to save money on food you would’ve just made a post about the shops that reduce their food and what times and left out the fact that you cleared the shelves of food and left nothing for anyone else. No one has said that you can’t get reduced price but Jesus Christ there really is no need to clear the shelves leaving nothing for anyone else. You just wanted to gloat and then threw a hissy fit including saying you would ask to get the post deleted because it wasn’t going your way. You can try and wrap it up however you like to make yourself feel better about your actions but at the end of the day it was still selfish, greedy and entitled.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 10:01

@TeaAndTattoos for the 100th time-I didn't clear any shelves
Stopping changing the narrative
I left plenty for others
I took the meat we liked
