To take all the reduced meat?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:37

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

@KarmaStar get a grip!
Children with empty tummy's because I took meat for my family ...
Oliver Twist wasn't stood there ,it was people who had trolleys anyway with food in
So hardly on the poverty line

Who are you to try and judge who’s on the poverty line and who isn’t you don’t know if the people waiting are struggling just as much as you like to make out you are I’m sure your not the only person who has £200 to live off for the month but if everyone did what you did there would be no food left for anyone else. You may think that you can absolve yourself of any wrong doing by saying oh but I left them fish and lamb but how do you know that no one there has a fish allergy or just doesn’t like fish and lamb or has a fussy child that will only eat certain foods and you took everything before anyone else got a look in whah you did was really selfish and to make a post gloating about it makes you look even worse.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 06:59

@TeaAndTattoos and who are you to judge if I needed it or not either !
As I said previously I have less than £200 every month to last the month and that's to get food and anything else too
So if I can get food cheap I'm gonna get it
I would be a fool not too

Everyone's shopping cycles are different. If OP shops monthly on pay day and freezes food for the month should she be penalised because others shop daily?

Should others be penalised because she does that?

Are you new to the internet you do realise that by posting on AIBU you’re asking to be judged which is exactly what’s happening everyone is judging you based off your selfish actions you don’t get to decide that your need is greater than anyone else’s so therefore your allowed to take all the food and leave nothing for anyone else that attitude in life is what breeds selfishness and an overinflated sense of entitlement you have no idea how much any of the other people waiting where struggling your not the only person who was wanting reduced food to try and feed their family for the month. But your entitlement and selfishness is shining brightly on this threat. Do better.

Willmafrockfit · 04/08/2023 07:47

a woman pushed in front of me in a supermarket on the reduced cakes section, attempting to take 4 of a particular bun, i opened the sliding door so she couldnt get her hand in! so i could get in the side i wanted to, ended up making a decision quickly and she blamed her husband for wanting 4 cakes, then she went for more!

The whole point of AIBU is to be judged. You're literally asking people to give their views on whether you're being unreasonable.

I do wonder why people ask sometimes!

Take as old as time.
someone posts something in AIBU, gets their arse handed to them, has a hissy fit.

Westfacing · 04/08/2023 08:14

You ask AIBU to take all the reduced meat, so you must have had a sneaking feeling that it wasn't quite cricket to do this, otherwise you wouldn't ask.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 04/08/2023 08:15

Everyone is saying you're selfish but what exactly is wrong with being selfish sometimes? Shrug. If I could fit it in my freezer and I needed it I would have done the same. Can't imagine anyone else would have left any if they noticed first and needed it.

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 08:16

OP, seeing as you're getting into the realms of imaginary judgement ability, how did you know you were more entitled to the food than the other people? How did you 'jidge' that? You took what you wanted, what suited you at the time and you didn't have any regard for anyone else. Some people think that's fine, some don't. People won't always like what you do but if you honestly don't feel you're wrong, why worry? Or look at your behaviour.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 08:17

@UncertainSmiler who is having a hissy fit?
I'm simply stating my situation and I don't have lots of money unfortunately so for me it was a no brainier.
If people can post and judge surely I can clarify things

FrogsWormsandCaterpillars · 04/08/2023 08:18

As someone who works in a supermarket I don’t care how much reduced food people take. The most annoying thing is people hanging around waiting for me to reduce stuff. I won’t do it if people are hovering.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 08:19

@TeaAndTattoos your changing the narrative to suit yourself here.
I didn't take everything
I took the things I wanted /could use for my family
There was plenty of other things left
If you walked in Tesco today and there was 1 chicken left and you wanted it ...would you leave it incase charmaine pops in later and wants to feed her kids a chicken for tea ?
Or would you take said chicken as that is what you wanted ?

Your thread title?

ballipp · 04/08/2023 08:24

@Chickenkeev this isn't about me or anyone else being more entitled than anyone.
I was there and there were things we liked so I took those bits.
Plenty of other bits were left
It's not a case of buying for the sake of it-
If I could save £40 plus why wouldn't I ?
Who's to say anyone else would of wanted the same bits I bought ?

Not really an equivalent example though is it, if there were 20 chickens and 15 people waiting in the reduced chicken section, would you take all 20 and then try to rationalise it by claiming others would have done the same to you?

I think a good test if behaviour is acceptable is to consider if the system would still work if everyone acted in the same way. Clearly in this instance it wouldn't.

You FEEL more entitled than everyone else though. So you took everything. So own it. You're essentially bitching about others who are potentially poorer than you being pissed off. As is their right. As i'm sure you'd be if someone did that to you. They didn't grab all the stuff out of your trolley ffs! The more i think on it the more it feels like a humble barg about how bloody thrifty you are are. Well for you, as i said before, lots of ppl don't have the money to buy a months worth of meat in one go. Bully for you, but it's definitely not the case for everyone. And as i mentioned previously, do look into too good to go (to see if there's a british equivalent). It sounds like it'd be useful for you.

LadyKenya · 04/08/2023 08:39

If you happen to be in the same situation again, what would you do OP?

@Chickenkeev also I don't have the money to buy a months worth of meat in one go -hence buying it at 90% off
