To only sleep on 100% cotton sheets

Out shopping with my DSis for new bedding. She was in total shock that we (me, dh plus 2 dc) only ever sleep on 100% 300 thread count sheets and pillowcases. She didn’t understand why I would buy poly cotton or percale despite it being cheaper. She thinks I’m a snob 🤣
I thought everyone used pure cotton sheets. Good sheets like good towels and good shoes are just the norm.

Sorry that should say why I would NOT buy poly cotton or percale

No YANBU. I only have 100% too.

I hate poly, cotton sateen and any other blends.

Same goes for my pants too 😂

Only 300 thread count, sounds a bit cheapskate to me

Possimpible · 02/08/2023 12:11

If you thought everyone used cotton why did you think they sold polycotton..? Show off thread, pointless. I have cotton sheets but I don't think it makes me morally superior

PastTheGin · 02/08/2023 12:12

100% cotton sheets here, too. I can’t understand how people can sleep in polycotton or pure polyester sheets - they are so plasticky and sweaty!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/08/2023 12:12

NOT buy poly cotton or percale

Percale is a weave style isn't it?

User265438765 · 02/08/2023 12:12

I generally get the very high thread count ones not the cheap 300 ones

Possimpible · 02/08/2023 12:13

Percale can be 100% cotton btw, sounds like you're not as up on you fabrics as you thought OP! Embarrassing

User265438765 · 02/08/2023 12:14

OP sounds like she hasn't a clue

Errr no. My sis made a big fuss about it. I thought what I did was normal. Having cotton sheets is hardly showing off.

I’ve never been able feel a noticeable difference between cotton and cotton-mix sheets, however expensive and high thread count people assure me their sheets are, so I’m not really fussed either way. People actively choose cotton-mix for all kinds of reasons - easy wash, more resistant to stains, don’t need ironing, lower cost. Not really an issue to get excited over.

User265438765 · 02/08/2023 12:15

Obviously not if they are only 300 thread count

Cosyblankets · 02/08/2023 12:18

You buy what you like
She buys what she likes
You sleep in your bed
She sleeps in hers
Non issue

HarlanPepper · 02/08/2023 12:19

2000 thread count minimum for me. Anything less is like straw against my delicate patrician skin.

BevCallardsMerkin · 02/08/2023 12:20

I buy what looks pretty in my price range. I don't think any more about it beyond that.

Yep, as is cotton sateen.

I'm surprised that posters humble bragging about their 100% cotton sheets weren't aware of different types of weave.

However kudos to the shops managing to make 100% cotton 300 thread count sound like the most luxurious options available!

I agree, it's just bedding.

SoAndSoSaidSo · 02/08/2023 12:23

Any cotton, as long as it's 100%. Otherwise my husband sweats like mad.

PinkFootstool · 02/08/2023 12:25

Who pays attention to thread count though? That's the snobbish bit for me.

I've got 100% cotton sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers for all the beds. I can't be doing with the feel of cheap polycotton any more. Mostly from supermarkets so hardly high end stuff.

My linen set on the other hand nearly bankrupted me but I absolutely love it.... Not enough to switch it all out though!

GreyCarpet · 02/08/2023 12:26

100% Egyption cotton, high thread count here too. It's one of the few things I'm happy to spend money on 🤣

I don't like the smell of polycotton.

NancyJoan · 02/08/2023 12:27

Cotton sheets for me, too. I get too hot otherwise.

Appleblum · 02/08/2023 12:27

Only 100% egyptian cotton for me 😎

VictoriaPlummm · 02/08/2023 12:30

YANBU
I'm with you OP; I -detest- polyester / polycotton / whatever you want to call it. Yes its a few quid cheaper and doesnt need ironing, but its just..soo..sweatyy.. 😬 Five minutes on a polycotton sheet and I'm sweating like a pig, and absolutely not getting any sleep. Snobby or not, IDC, cool fresh breatheable bed linen the only way I'm getting to sleep!

User265438765 · 02/08/2023 12:36

Some cotton sheets are quite cheap, cheaper than poly cotton so just get the ones you want. I bought some from Primark for £3 each for covering stuff for decorating, not sure what they were made of though, they may have been cheap cotton.

DappledThings · 02/08/2023 12:37

Never checked what any of my bedding is made from. I go purely by choosing a pattern I like and I like a nice bright sheet to match it.

I own 3 sets for our bed, 2 for the spare and DC have 3 each.

No idea if all or none of them are 100% cotton.
