And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

Who the fuck is sniffing a dogs exposed genitals?!

This thread gets crazier and crazier by the day.

Personally, in all 37 years of my life, I have come across more people that have led me to think 'cor, they bloody stink' than I have dogs.

Pitying a dog owner is like pitying a lottery winner.

Amen to that. Dogs are wonderful.

I have seen someone have a meltdown over children screeching. It can and does happen.

Such reactions are not likely to be specific to the noise of children though. Presumably such an unfortunate person could be triggered by other loud high pitched noise. By certain dogs barking for example.

The main problem with your argument though, is that it’s obviously out of the question to ban children from places like airplanes. There are far too many incontrovertibly good reasons for allowing them. Dogs, not so much.

In cafes and pubs kids cause a lot more problems than dogs - local pub has had to put signs up everywhere reminding people to supervise their children at all times because of the mess that a group caused in the toilets, add that to the parents getting drunk with kids ... the dogs are no problem at all

Dogs and children are not equal

No need to be quite so unpleasant

Really? Hating children on a parenting site and I'm the unpleasant one.

For some reason hating children is fine on here.

CallieQ · 04/08/2023 00:48

Another dog hating thread!!

CallieQ · 04/08/2023 00:53

No- not really. Most people wash every day. Most dogs are not washed everyday.it’s for nothing to do with how unwashed they are- admittedly the dirtier the smellier- they Amal of dog. Even clean they smell of dog. Dog lovers tend to think Thai is a lovely smell. I think it stinks.

I love dogs and I love a Thai!
You should find a new takeaway

Dogs do stink. Their breath stinks. Their paws stink. Their exposed genitals stink. Their skin stinks through their fur.
People who claim dogs don't stink just don't have a good sense of smell, but also, they become immune to it. I understand that. Like eyesight or hearing, some of us do just have a good sense of smell, and no amount of grooming will de-stench a dog, and no amount of cleaning and plug-ins will de-stench a dog-owner's home.

If you don't want to "focus" on these things, that's exactly what we mean by dog people having low hygiene standards.

Omg @DuckIings wind your neck in! So many aggressive dog hating posts and all of them utter rubbish

I have found that people who own dogs are lacking in good social skills. There is always something a little off about them. Weird need to control. Weird need to be unchallenged by another human with cognitive capabilities a bit more advanced than dogs. They seem to believe dogs truly are loyal, and their best friend. Delusional.

They also, obviously, have no hygiene standards.

All of that is fine, but they should not impose their dogs on the rest of us.

Weird need to be unchallenged by another human with cognitive capabilities a bit more advanced than dogs.

Hmm. In your case, I think cognitive capabilities might be slightly less than that of a dog?

Dogs certainly aren't judgemental. You on the other hand.

Why are people so keen to equate dogs with children?

Well there are a fair few similarities.

Small, can be noisy, boisterous, no concept of personal hygiene, happy to stick tongues/paws into places where they should not be, both defecate in public places and often stink to high heaven, people invariably incapable of understanding why others have no time for something they love unconditionally, people smiling all 'what are they like, eh?' style when they are running riot and making life a misery for others, both of them would be pretty much helpless without their adult enablers, and they contribute nothing substantive to society but demand significant resource investment.

The reasons I don't like either are pretty much the same in both cases, funnily enough.

The differences far outweigh the similarities. Children don’t regularly shit on the pavement for example, and letting them just run ahead or behind and do what they want is the exception rather than the rule for parenting small children, because there’s an innate need to keep the child safe which ties the parent to the child. Which brings me to the main difference which springs to mind; children are, under a certain age, extremely vulnerable and powerless, whereas many dogs are quite the opposite. Powerful creatures capable of doing great harm.

And children contributing nothing to society is only temporary.

I could go on with the differences. Those are just some obvious ones.

These threads about dogs are always quite entertaining thanks to some regulars!

And none of the dog owners have so far answered my (admittedly tedious) question about whether they consider a lawn/park fit for kids’ play once they’ve picked up a dog’s poo?
I'll answer. In my case, it's never happened that I found dog poo in the grass of the park I usually go to. Not once in 20+ years. Maybe lucky where I am.

The reality though is we are never 100% safe from touching things that are less than clean. Benches, the beach, walls, door handles etc...and supposedly, the most bacteria gathering every day instrument is our mobile phones!

I see dogs as part of our living environment. They have always been a companion to humans. Getting rid of them in the basis of nuisance would be like getting rid of all birds, cats, frogs, horses....it just wouldn't be right.

Those other animals are a natural part of the ecosystem. Dogs are manmade, sustained by mankind, and are not a natural part of the ecosystem.

You didn't answer the question properly. It was asked whether shit-picker-uppers really believe that picking up the big turd means the grass is clear of dog shit. You know it isn't. There will be traces of it, sometimes more than other times depending on the consistency of the pile of dog shit. And comparing dog shit to the muck birds or frogs or horses leave behind is asinine. The majority of horses aren't shitting where kids play, and frogs and birds just don't have the rank kind of shit that canines do. I'd agree about cat shit being vile, and I don't support cat ownership either, but it's far less of an issue in playparks and on the beach, pavements, etc.

Dogs have not always been companions. At one stage they helped with hunting and shit-eating (yes, there is evidence for this), but it's the recent explosion in furbaby crap and taking dogs into cinemas, cafes, supermarkets that is making life shitty for the rest of us. Time was, people would keep their dogs in a kennel outside, not in their bed and on their sofas, and having to go everywhere with their master.
