And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

I hate it when someone gets attacked for picking their dog over a stranger's child in a hypothetical situation. It is never going to happen. Why would a strange child be alone in a building with my dog? That sounds like a total parenting fail to me.

Maybe they were staying overnight with your own child, and your own child got out ok and now you need to get the other child or your dog out. It's not that far-fetched really. Or you could be in a hotel or shopping centre. And it might not be your dog, it could be any dog.

That’s fair enough… but I tend to find that if anyone has soiled clothes in shops it’s adult customers getting their make-uppy faces all over clothes when they try them on! The comparisons can be stretched in all directions! But the fact remains that children are people and, as such, have to be allowed in “people” spaces except where there’s an age limit eg bars/ nightclubs. Some people seem keen to blur that very obvious line - ie that dogs are an entirely separate species!

Exactly.

I’ve seen more make-up stains on clothes than I’ve ever seen anything that a young child could do or have done and most retail workers would tell you the same.

HeidInTheBaw · 03/08/2023 09:52

Well that’s alright then

doorstopper123 · 03/08/2023 10:56

Sorry if this has already been said

Bills (the restaurant chain) have a doggy menu! The furry little pests get ice cream too

so yadnbu!

vivainsomnia · 03/08/2023 11:06

If clothes shops were affected so badly by children dirty hands or dogs' fur on their merchandise, they would ban both. The reality is that neither is an issue in the real world.

Kids don't walk around with hands full of marmite and dogs in shops are a rare event and when they are they don't go scratching their back against all the clothes living their marks.

DuckIings · 03/08/2023 11:25

I have found that people who own dogs are lacking in good social skills. There is always something a little off about them. Weird need to control. Weird need to be unchallenged by another human with cognitive capabilities a bit more advanced than dogs. They seem to believe dogs truly are loyal, and their best friend. Delusional.

They also, obviously, have no hygiene standards.

All of that is fine, but they should not impose their dogs on the rest of us.

It's necessary to bring children into shops. You can't leave your kid outside on the pavement for obvious safeguarding reasons.

It is not necessary to bring in dogs.

This is an issue for this particular customer. It's an issue for other potential customers upthread as well. I'll withdraw my custom from any shop I see permitting this, and will email the shop to tell them why.

The high street is already in enough trouble as a result of online competition and needs all the help it can get. I'll support it where possible, but this bizarre policy is doing them no favours in this respect.

Absolutely. When they start screeching, whingeing, kicking the back of the seat, etc, I come out in a terrible irritant induced rash.

Gutted that a James fan could be so tedious.

SaturdayGiraffe · 03/08/2023 11:35

Only two dog poos on the track today :)

What’s the matter with you? It’s people who don’t look after their dogs properly who are the problem. I think there’s something wrong with people who don’t like animals.

Dogs aren't all animals. They are a specific type of animal which some people find bloody disgusting. Lots of people are repulsed by spiders, snakes, sharks, wasps. No-one thinks that's particularly weird or an indication of there being 'something wrong with' them. Some people find dogs gross because they are. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them. I also dislike woodlice, but at least a woodlouse can't kill my toddler.

And as I mentioned upthread, it may also be a problem for staff. Even if they like dogs, they may not like clearing up after them. I don't believe that no dog ever pees or poos in a shop!

I don't have a dog but I find this reply a bit stuck up

Firstly, not all dog owners have poor hygiene. If you get a dog that hardly sheds, wash it regularly, clean the floors, and wash clothes, then how is that dirty?

Secondly, and I say this as someone who values cleanliness, some people think there are more important things in life. A hairs stuck on black cardigans is a small price to pay for their companion. As long as it's not in the food or blowing around like tumbleweed, it's not a big deal

The only dog owners with poor social skills are the ones with poor etiquette like leaving poo around or letting dogs get in people's way

SpilltheTea · 03/08/2023 11:57

I love dogs and luckily our area doesn't have many useless owners. I can't say the same thing about the parent population.

Dogs are not hygienic. To choose to have one in your home immediately marks you as having low/no hygiene standards.
Dogs don't wear underwear, therefore their shitty anuses and pissy pee exits drape on your floors, beds, sofas, etc. Absolutely rank. They also drag their anuses along the floor to itch them, sometimes.
They also stink.

Bananananananananana · 03/08/2023 12:03

Dogs don't stink unless they have very long fur or you don't wash them.

As I say, some people choose not to focus on those types of things.

I'd rather be one of the happy dog people than someone with a dog who tries to convince themselves that have superior hygiene, when often they don't.

Anyone who doesn't wash their hands everytime they wet or poo is no better than a dog anyway.

Bananananananananana · 03/08/2023 12:13

Let's not forget

Wood flooring
Leather sofa
Soft furnishings that are washable
Steam mop for the floor

Not that hard to have a clean home with a dog. I know people who claim dogs are filthy yet have mould, dust and grime in their houses. Dog owners houses might not be completely sterile, but I know plenty (most) who maintain high standards

DuckIings · 03/08/2023 12:13

Dogs do stink. Their breath stinks. Their paws stink. Their exposed genitals stink. Their skin stinks through their fur.
People who claim dogs don't stink just don't have a good sense of smell, but also, they become immune to it. I understand that. Like eyesight or hearing, some of us do just have a good sense of smell, and no amount of grooming will de-stench a dog, and no amount of cleaning and plug-ins will de-stench a dog-owner's home.

If you don't want to "focus" on these things, that's exactly what we mean by dog people having low hygiene standards.

Papernotplastic · 03/08/2023 12:51

You go around sniffing dogs’ paws?

Well we not licking the furniture or the floor.

Dogs only drag their arses if they have worms.

Cats drag their arses too.

Bananananananananana · 03/08/2023 13:46

People who claim dogs and dog owners are filthy are the same people who claim to be super clean and hygienic... yet don't realise hoovers, soap and washing machines exist.

You are missing out on one of God's greatest gifts. I usually find that people who don't like dogs are less likeable than those who do.

It’s comments like this that give dog owners a bad name.

Do you normally categorize so many people by one aspect of their preferences?

Myra Hindley was besotted by her Collie.

Harold Shipman used to weep at the sight of dogs being caged at Leeds medical hospital

Hitler killed 6 million Jews but loved his dogs

Kim Jong-un loved his dogs so much he gave them 20kg of beef a day and if anyone humans took any they were sent to labour camps

Groutyonehereagain · 03/08/2023 14:19

I hope that the rabid dog haters on here will some day realise the value of dogs to mankind. Perhaps a guide dog or assistance dog will join your family, if one of you needs help. These dogs dedicate their lives to helping humans have a better life. Then there are those dogs who make airports and venues safer for us, by sniffing out explosives. There are search and rescue dogs, who will help find humans lost or buried. Then there are pet dogs who enrich their owners lives every day. Ah well, I’ll dream on. 🐾🐶😴
