God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

It's allowed to take a dog into the cabin on a flight if the dog is under 8Kg (it used to be 10Kg back when we used to take our Poodle with us).

SaturdayGiraffe · 02/08/2023 08:20

Where do dogs poo on airplanes?!

awaynboilyurheid · 02/08/2023 08:26

Our big shopping centre started allowing people to bring their dogs, I never understood it. Anyhoo once they started peeing and shitting everywhere they had to stop, thank goodness!
Now wheeling their dogs about in pushchairs seems to be popular, I even seen one couple shooshing and rocking their dog in a pushchair to sleep in a cafe, like a baby , seemed a bit sad and obsessive.

Some people with certain disabilities can find their symptoms are exacerbated by high pitched noise, which is something young children are particularly good at. Especially when the fashion for interiors is chrome and plastic and no carpeting or fabrics to absorb the noise. This isn’t life-threatening but then neither is every allergy - both can be debilitating.

Not that it matters because nobody is suggesting that children be banned from spaces to accommodate those with disabilities. Just trying to make the point that for some, avoiding kids isn’t just because they find them irritating but because it has an impact on their health.

I hope you stretched well before that reach otherwise you’ll strain yourself.

It was a commercial airline, they sent us photos! I can’t share them obviously. DH and I spent a lot of time wondering what they do if it needed a shit. I’m not aware if they drove over to Ireland but they didn’t mention it. The live mainline U.K. in a city and always fly from there

KimberleyClark · 02/08/2023 08:48

The only people I know who push their dogs about in buggies do so because the dog is old and arthritic but still enjoys getting out and about.

KimberleyClark · 02/08/2023 08:51

I have also read about earthquake search and rescue dogs being flown home first class by Turkish Airlines but have no problem with that.

I have a service dog that is well trained & goes everywhere with me. I prefer my dog to any living being especially those who don’t like dogs. I also don’t like children, tough shit, suck it up. He is also trained to trigger react to protect at all costs, humans after all 10 a penny…..

So did he train himself or did a human train him? Domestic dogs need humans to survive and also train them in all the skills your dog has but yeah humans are 10 a penny....

A quick google shows that airlines have different policies on pets some will allow in cabin most won't, and will only allow in cargo unless it is a service dog. Doesn't appear to matter what country you are flying from more what airline

Me too. Our local soft play is now “dog friendly”

Just why?! I don’t want dogs in soft play

Seriously? That is utterly ridiculous. Mind you they are unhygienic at the best of times.

I prefer dogs to children, however, if I was in a situation of choosing a child's life over a dog's life, I would save the child. I would include my own dog in that scenario.

Going by previous threads, there are plenty of MNers who would get their dog out first. Oddly enough, not their cats (perhaps they think cats can fend for themselves more easily).

Where are people living? I get the impression from some people here that dogs outnumber people. Today I went to the nearby green space for a morning walk. I passed 2 joggers, 1 cyclist, 3 people walking to work, 2 people with dogs. Left the house later - out in the street 2 adults with 2 kids. Went to the supermarket - loads of people, no dogs. Walked up the road to another shop - loads of people, no dogs. Walked back - ditto. So, today I passed 2 dogs and a few hundred people. I'm almost tempted to think that people are exaggerating.... 🤔

I think it depends a lot on where you live.

I am lucky that there are quite a few open spaces around where I live so there is less conflict over the use of space and it's not that difficult to avoid dogs (and if you are out and about on the streets, people do have them on leads).

The issue comes where eg you are on a narrow canal towpath so there's nowhere to go if you meet an out of control dog, or there are only a couple of small parks in a town so everyone takes their dogs there, but that then means there's nowhere for people who dislike or are scared of dogs to go. I think there is a case for creating more dog exercise areas, and having other areas where dogs have to be on short leads or are not allowed at all.

HeidInTheBaw · 02/08/2023 14:06

What’s the matter with you? It’s people who don’t look after their dogs properly who are the problem. I think there’s something wrong with people who don’t like animals.

tootallfortheshelf · 02/08/2023 14:15

The problem with dog exercise parks is the xl bullies get there and they like to have fun by dismembering smaller dogs

I hate it when someone gets attacked for picking their dog over a stranger's child in a hypothetical situation. It is never going to happen. Why would a strange child be alone in a building with my dog? That sounds like a total parenting fail to me.

I have seen someone have a meltdown over children screeching. It can and does happen.

Not flying from the UK, not in the cabin. The pictures they showed you were not from a departure from there. It is not possible. I know, I've done all the research possible and my vet confirmed.

That’s obviously very unfortunate.

It doesn’t legitimatise the absurd comparison between dogs and children though. In places where people are allowed, people (ie children) are allowed. Or are we still pretending children aren’t people?

It's ok for people to like dogs & it's ok to not, the trouble is if you don't they are literally everywhere!!! Cafes, restaurants, parks, shops, I could go on! To not be around them you'd have to become a recluse! An older poster put it well, it's a neediness from the owner why they drag them everywhere not for the sage of the dog! I'm very disappointed in the likes of John Lewis allowing the dogs in, quite expensive clothes being touched by disgusting dogs, I would never buy in there again. Before people start going on about they feel the same about kids! Don't bother it's like saying apples & pears are the same & it is a really weak reply! Those dog owners that say that are why we have the dog problem we do!!! With there ridiculous attitude to dogs.

I think you can compare some dogs and some children in the John Lewis scenario though (please note I've said some). I don't particularly want to buy clothes that children have put their grubby hands over. I'm not suggesting children should be banned from JL but there's no difference between a child's sticky hands touching something than a dog's fur on it.

I've also been in the changing rooms and some kid has opened the curtains looking for his mother. He shouldn't have been roaming the changing rooms.

At the end of the day it comes down to bad dog owners or parents making life harder for the good ones.

Ok I accept that I’ve come from a working/farming background but I don’t think dogs want to be in JL or similar places (I accept some children don’t want to be there either but that’s slightly different). I’m late 50’s now but when I younger people went shopping etc and their dogs were left at home. I never heard of separation anxiety until I came on here. Also no one called their dogs “fur babies” they were “dogs” loved well exercised fed most slept in barns or boot rooms if they were lucky over night but still happy well adjusted and well cared for none seemed to have the hang ups that so many dogs have today. On market day for example dogs were frequently left all day none seemed to suffer.

vivainsomnia · 03/08/2023 08:42

The good old 'in my days', it was perfect so behaviour shouldn't change!

Generations bring changes with it. It does because the majority of people believe it is right that it should.

This certainly applies to the way parents bring up their own children compared to how they were brought up themselves and it applies to dogs too.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/08/2023 08:44

Sorry @Corgiowner, I didn't make it clear - I don't think dogs should be in John Lewis etc.. My badly made point was I don't want to buy something with grubby hands on it or dog fur! I know that children can't be banned but parents need to make sure their children aren't touching things whether it's in the supermarket or JL. Obviously if they are going to buy it the kids can put their grubby mitts all over it!

Cramlington567 · 03/08/2023 08:45

surely 'bored' is used incorrectly in thread title here.

That’s fair enough… but I tend to find that if anyone has soiled clothes in shops it’s adult customers getting their make-uppy faces all over clothes when they try them on! The comparisons can be stretched in all directions! But the fact remains that children are people and, as such, have to be allowed in “people” spaces except where there’s an age limit eg bars/ nightclubs. Some people seem keen to blur that very obvious line - ie that dogs are an entirely separate species!

I agree! I just want parents to parent their kids! Don't let them go up to people in cafes, don't let them wander around changing rooms opening curtains, don't let them handle food in supermarkets. If they do, don't be surprised when other people tell them to stop. Don't glare at me when I send the child back to his own table!

It's the same with dogs, I want the owners to control them. I like well behaved dogs. My Mum had one with no recall and no common sense so we walked her on the lead. I knew she was the biggest softy going but no one else did. I also knew she loved children but no one else did and she was a big dog.

Not this nonsense again. Dogs are not all animals. Not liking dogs does not mean that you don't like other animals.

Example. I don't like dogs, but I do for example like guinea pigs, rabbits, red squirrels and hedgehogs.

Is that readily understandable?
