Jacket potato toppings...

Debate in the office. Jacket potatoes need butter & a wet topping. My reccomendation is a can of m&s beef curry, mayo ( yes I'm weird! ) and sour cream pop chips for a poppadom effect. My colleague is partial to tuna mayo or cheese and beans and manager loves chilli con carne. Not one but two other colleagues don't think you need butter and are happy with just cheese! The horror. I think my face said it all as one actually laughed at me and how aghast I was. What is acceptable on a jacket potato please?

Cheese and coleslaw yes
Cheese solo? No

Tinkerbellflowers · 30/07/2023 17:45

Cheese with no butter would be too dry.

Hellocatshome · 30/07/2023 17:46

You need at least a smidge of butter on it of you are just going to put dry cheese on a jacket potato. But if you are going to do cheese ar least do cheese and beans and make a proper job of it.

TomatoSandwiches · 30/07/2023 17:46

Anything the eater likes is acceptable but I love mine with butter, sourcream, chives, cheese and a salad.

londonrach · 30/07/2023 17:46

Butter and cheese and if you put some rocket on I'm a happy lady.....has to be cooked properly... microwave on its own isn't great. I start jacket potato in microwave then pop in oven....if you a proper jacket potato machine....I'm a jealous....happy to live on jacket potato butter and cheese for life!

heathspeedwell · 30/07/2023 17:47

I suppose you can put cream cheese on a baked sweet potato with no butter, but Cheddar on a regular spud without butter would make my valve close!

anonymousxoxo · 30/07/2023 17:48

I like:

Butter
Sprinkle of pepper
Thorka beans (Indian with spices and chillies)
Cheese

:)

londonrach · 30/07/2023 17:48

You do need abit of butter and it's needs to be good butter......ok I know what I'm having for tea..

I’m just wondering how long it will be before someone comes along and says they don’t eat them because carbsGrin

CountZacular · 30/07/2023 17:48

You need butter as the ‘wet’ part for otherwise dry toppings. I don’t like mayo so had lots of butter and tuna on mine today. You need butter for cheese but not necessarily for cheese and beans.

Looool!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/07/2023 17:49

Yeah if you’re having cheese on its own you’d need to have butter, otherwise too dry. Cheese and butter is fine.

Or you can have anything like left over curry or whatever you want.

WeWereInParis · 30/07/2023 17:51

Im fine having just cheese and butter (although would generally have something else as well), but would never have just cheese. That sounds horrible.

Therearedozensofus · 30/07/2023 17:52

I live with a monster. My son's favourite filling is cheese, beans and tuna mayonnaise. No butter😱

PaniniHead · 30/07/2023 17:52

Cheese, beans and coleslaw. I put the cheese on first so it melts under the beans.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/07/2023 17:53

my recommendation is a can of m&s beef curry, mayo ( yes I'm weird! ) and sour cream pop chips for a poppadom effect

I’ve seen many gross things on MN over the years. People who pull toilet brushes in the dishwasher. People who don’t change their bedsheets for months at a time. People who admit to eating scabs.

I think this might be the most disturbing yet. I don’t even know where to begin unpicking this.

Vallmo47 · 30/07/2023 17:54

100% needs butter.

quietnightmare · 30/07/2023 17:54

m&s beef curry, mayo ( yes I'm weird! ) and sour cream pop chips for a poppadom effect.

This sounds amazing. I'm going to buy it tomorrow

Don't judge me but ....

chorizo with cheese
Plain pulled pork and gravy
Cauliflower and cheese

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 30/07/2023 17:55

I don't like melted butter.

My lunch today was half a can of vegetable chilli, blob of Greek yogurt and sliced avocado

Other toppings I do are

Cheese and coleslaw
Cheese and beans
Cheese and tinned tomato
Tuna with chopped peppers or sweetcorn and mayo
Cottage cheese and tuna and some kind of chopped salad
Cottage cheese and sliced avocado and some kind of chopped salad
Salsa and grated cheese and sliced avocado
Vegetable curry and blob of yogurt

Sometimes I have soup and toast instead of jacket potato!

itsdecluttertime · 30/07/2023 17:56

I always ask for butter as some places don't put it in. I usually have cheese and beans, or ham and cheese. The potato is too dry without the butter first.

Wenfy · 30/07/2023 17:57

I hate butter. For me it’s beans first then a tiny sprinkle of cheese on top.

NeverHadANickname · 30/07/2023 17:58

I like chicken with a curry mayonnaise. Or the classic cheese and beans. Not bothered about butter really. It probably tastes better but I have just got into the habit of not having it.

Banshee9 · 30/07/2023 17:59

Cottage cheese is nice and doesn't need butter

BiggerBoat1 · 30/07/2023 17:59

Of course butter. They are animals.
Tuna and coleslaw, coronation chicken or chilli con carne are the best. All with cheese obviously!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 30/07/2023 17:59

Ah yes, @quietnightmare has reminded me I also like cauliflower cheese on a jacket . Sometimes I also have macaroni cheese .... (definitely awaiting a horror at the carbs in that one!)
