Jacket potato toppings...

Debate in the office. Jacket potatoes need butter & a wet topping. My reccomendation is a can of m&s beef curry, mayo ( yes I'm weird! ) and sour cream pop chips for a poppadom effect. My colleague is partial to tuna mayo or cheese and beans and manager loves chilli con carne. Not one but two other colleagues don't think you need butter and are happy with just cheese! The horror. I think my face said it all as one actually laughed at me and how aghast I was. What is acceptable on a jacket potato please?

Definitely needs wetness from the butter. I like chilli, spaghetti Bol, cheese and pickle, cheese and beans, tuna mayo, curry etc

The weirdest topping (in my mind) is egg mayo, I just can't understand how the warming effect of the potato on the egg mayo doesn't make you sick 🤢

God same actually wtaf is egg mayo doing as a topping! I can understand boiled egg in slices maybe in a salad on the side but even then it had to be ice cold egg and a bit if salt on each slice.

Egg mayo and butter and white pepper.

Of course jackets need butter, anyone who doesn't have butter is a monster. Yes even the vegans.

Butter for sure.

Toppings:

Coronation Chicken
Brie and cranberry sauce
Prawn cocktail

It’s July! It is illegal to eat jacket potatoes in July! The topping is irrelevant. NEXT!

Have to put butter on first no matter what toppings you put on!
My fave is cheddar with fried mushrooms or
Cheddar, coleslaw and sliced corned beef on the side 👌

Vgbeat · 30/07/2023 22:53

Always need salted proper butter, then I like philadelphia, beans and cheddar on top, or recently mexicana cheese on top

Kara234 · 30/07/2023 23:45

Cottage cheese with pineapple but I would eat with creamy butter on its own also. Mashed avocado with m&s smoked salmon flakes is my kids choice or tuna crunch.

Prawns in Marie Rose sauce, beans and cheese or tuna mayo are fab on a jacket spud, but my favourite topping ever is pilchards in tomato sauce 😋

Cooked slowly in tin foil in oven until soft inside then tin foil off, a tiny bit of oil and salt rubbed into skin and on a high temp to crisp up then lashings of butter with either sour cream, spring onion and crispy bacon bits , cheese and beans or chilli con carne 😍

Why would you even think of putting a "wet" topping on a baked potato?! 🤢 Cheese is fine, the thought of beans or curry as a topping... 🙅‍♀️

Why wouldn't you ? Do you not have potatoes and gravy on a roast dinner or mash potato with a stew ? Or potato topping on a pie ? Having dry potatoes is what is odd .

Cheese and beans, or an M&S tin ofchicken curry, but no mayo!

Ooh, or M&S chunky chicken.
I've not had that for ages, will be getting a tin this week.

ManateeFair · 31/07/2023 14:25

Butter is a must.

Best toppings are cheese and beans in winter and prawns in marie rose sauce in summer.

Zippedydodah · 31/07/2023 14:40

Salted butter and coronation chicken is the best imo, closely followed by prawns and rose Marie sauce.
Chicken tikka is good too!

Maddy70 · 31/07/2023 14:47

Butter cheese and onion. With bacon

AdoraBell · 31/07/2023 14:51

Butter followed by whatever topping anyone wants. For me, chilli/cheddar/beans and cheddar/bacon and mushrooms/tuna and mayo.

birdywillow · 31/07/2023 16:29

A little bit of butter and then prawns in Marie Rose sauce with a bit of salad

FrenchandSaunders · 31/07/2023 16:45

I had a JP for lunch today .... it was already cooked and leftover from Saturday. Bunged it back in oven for 20 min to crisp up again ... then added:

butter!
grated cheese
coleslaw
black pepper
nandos peri salt
with a side of leftover greek salad ... delicious!

In the depths of winter, a creamy Chicken jardiniere flavoured with tarragon hits the spot.

Otherwise, cauliflower and broccoli cheese with lots of mature cheddar cheese sauce and a German Bockwurst ( hot dog sausage).

Both to die for.💕

Boursin and sweetcorn. Better with butter- but very good without.

Haydenn · 07/11/2023 19:22

I mean there isn’t a foodstuff out there that isn’t made better with butter if you think about it. Social convention allows us to put it on potatoes, popcorn or peas- but life is genuinely better when you accept a scone with cream and jam is better with a layer of butter, or a pizza is better with a wee bit of butter for the crusts (and perhaps the middle). So of course the butter on a jacket potato is a given.

then cheese should only be with toppings where it melts. But otherwise take your pick

I might have this in a minute have all the ingredients.

We make chicken breast stuffed with Boursin and wrapped in Parma ham and we use Boursin as a pasta sauce quite a lot too.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/11/2023 21:12

Lots of butter and lots of mature cheddar, all put back in the oven for five minutes to melt 🤤

greenacrylicpaint · 07/11/2023 21:16

no butter
either sour cream with spring onions
or a naice chilli
