Jacket potato toppings...

Debate in the office. Jacket potatoes need butter & a wet topping. My reccomendation is a can of m&s beef curry, mayo ( yes I'm weird! ) and sour cream pop chips for a poppadom effect. My colleague is partial to tuna mayo or cheese and beans and manager loves chilli con carne. Not one but two other colleagues don't think you need butter and are happy with just cheese! The horror. I think my face said it all as one actually laughed at me and how aghast I was. What is acceptable on a jacket potato please?

Why would this thread pop up when I’m so hungry 😭🤣 if you could all please will my toddler to go to sleep so that I can make some dinner after a long day at work I’d be forever grateful 🤣

Some cracking topping suggestions on here…apart from your Beef curry monstrosity @CatsForeverAndEver 🤣 that was grim! 🤣

People who pull toilet brushes in the dishwasher.

I dont think this actually happened. It's an urban myth.

As for baked potatoes, I have no strong views, but cheese without butter would be too dry for me. Also, why waste an opportunity to eat butter?

I don’t like butter. Or margarine Grin

the only time I ever have butter is if I have toast or a specific bread roll from a particular bakery. Otherwise it’s always no butter for me in anything. I won’t even have butter in my sandwiches ----

Cut in half, add generous dollop of butter and let it soak through. Then layer some pesto (I like the sacla fiery chilli one), shred some baby spinach leaves, and then add some pine nuts and a very generous layer of some grated cheddar mixed with mozzarella Then melt under the grill until the cheese melted and golden.

Or a really simple one is brie and cranberry. I like cheese Blush

No butter or marg but then I’ve been a dieter and we are told to do away with spread wherever possibly.

Years ago I remember trying Philly a couple of times but can’t remember what else I had with it.
I’ve dabbled with cheese & sweetcorn (old rosemary Conley type recipe) and baked beans with poached egg on top in the past.

Groutyonehereagain · 30/07/2023 20:09

We have plenty of butter, cheese, beans and coleslaw.

Pickingmyselfup · 30/07/2023 20:14

All jacket potatoes are better with butter but if it's a wet topping it can be done away with.

My favourite is tuna and cheese with lots of butter but other toppings can be...

Chilli and cheese
Beans and cheese
Coleslaw (with or without cheese)
Cottage cheese with salsa (no butter)
Prawn mayonnaise (no butter)

A slimming world bacon combination is nice enough with fromage frais I think it is but it needs a bit of cheese to liven it up.

I'm a heathen and buy the ready made mccain ones because they are much more convenient to keep in the freezer if the urge for a jacket arises. Saves hours of oven cooking and they are perfect every time.

Hahaha it made me hungry too! I am genuinely going to try most of these toppings. I swear by beef curry lol but the more I think about it the weirder I realise it is. Also love Mackrel pate!

Boursin and sweetcorn.

I never add butter because IF I add cheese, that is fatty enough!

I like home made coleslaw or bacon, pineapple, spring onions and a little cheese

As a kid cheese and pineapple on a jacket was my all time favourite. I used to love it. Crushed pineapple from a tin (can you still get that?) warmed up on top of the potato, topped with cheese, ketchup and white pepper. Not had that for about 25 years!

Crucible · 30/07/2023 20:23

Cottage cheese and pineapple (with no butter).

pinkpirlie · 30/07/2023 20:27

I would never put butter on a potato, but then I would never put butter on bread or toast as I don't like it so my opinion isn't really valid.

Love potatoes with cheese and coleslaw (cheese 1st). But would also do chilli and cheese. I also like cheese, salad cream and red onions.

Cottage cheese and pineapple (with no butter).

In pineapple a typo?? (I can't think what for but I also can't imagine pineapple on a potato)

AnneElliott · 30/07/2023 20:39

Cheese and beans or tuna but never any butter!

NancyJoan · 30/07/2023 20:47

Butter, obviously. Then coleslaw, or tuna mayo, possibly chilli, prawn cocktail. But then there is cold cooked chicken and some salad cream. That, with v crunchy salad is my fave solo dinner.
Your tinned curry makes me want to 😭

Covetthee · 30/07/2023 20:54

My normal is JP with cheese beans and coleslaw

one time though i had to finish the food in my fridge before i went away and had JP witj a chicken jalfrezi and it was delicious so now thats an option too but wouldnt buy a take away just so I can get a jp out of it 🤣🤣

TakenRoot · 30/07/2023 21:01

I don’t have butter if I have cheese! The cheese melts and is fine without butter. I have cheese on one half, and President unsalted on the other half.

Also good is spinach, an egg, Parmesan grated on top, baked.

mondaytosunday · 30/07/2023 21:05

I don't use butter with cheese, but I wouldn't put just cheese on a jacket. Cheese and bacon, yes, prawn cocktail, yum, chilli is good too.

FatCatBum · 30/07/2023 21:18

Definitely needs wetness from the butter. I like chilli, spaghetti Bol, cheese and pickle, cheese and beans, tuna mayo, curry etc

The weirdest topping (in my mind) is egg mayo, I just can't understand how the warming effect of the potato on the egg mayo doesn't make you sick 🤢

BebbanburgIsMine · 30/07/2023 21:20

Nothing on the Baked Tattie at all.

No butter, no cheese, no beans, no nothing.

Just the tattie on its own with a sprinkling of salt.

aveline161 · 30/07/2023 21:27

Cheese beans order debaters- you’ve just reminded me my dad adds the grated cheese directly into the beans whilst heating them (in a pan) until completely melted in. Pretty much the only meal he used to cook for himself when he was still working, never seen anyone else do this

FlutteryButterfly · 30/07/2023 21:28

Chilli Philli

I live with a monster. My son's favourite filling is cheese, beans and tuna mayonnaise. No butter😱

I know someone who has that with coleslaw!!

bobotothegogo · 30/07/2023 21:34

Butter, haggis, grated cheese 😛

aveline161 · 30/07/2023 21:35

p.s. I tend to be boring tuna mayo potato with some extra sour cream type dip if we’ve got it in; husband has a faffy thing where all the potato is scooped out and mashed with corned beef, cheese and butter then returned to the shell and crisped up in the oven. It’s nice, but too much effort

hollyblueivy · 30/07/2023 21:41

Any absolute fail safe ways of cooking a fantastic baked potato? Or sweet potato?

Microwave
air fryer
Oven
