To have preferred last summer's weather

I know this will be contentious but I'm a bit disappointed in this summer's weather tbh.

I don't really feel the cold and can't remember ever having the heating on in the summer but I've had it on three times in the past month!

It was defo a bit hot on a few days last year but there were lots of nice hot days with temps in late 20s. This summer just feels like it's been rain, overcast muggyness, and then some slightly chilly nights.

I want some proper scorchers!

Nope sorry, much much prefer this sort of weather

EmmrT · 30/07/2023 00:27

As long as it's under 25 degrees, I'll take this over heatwaves.

CinnamonBunAndCoffee · 30/07/2023 00:33

The rain is annoying me now. My one DC loves the rain and doesn’t mind being out in it and the other hates it. It has rained where I am every day since the DC broke up from school. I really want a day at the beach in the sun!

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 00:34

I spend a lot of my workday outside on construction sites. I'm sick of getting soaked, almost dry, and then soaked again. Rinse (literally) and then repeat all day. Squelching boots and wet socks etc.

A bit of sweatiness is infinitely preferable to me, and I say that as someone who was out in the sun wearing a hardhat, safety trousers, and long sleeved shirt with polyester hi vis vest on top when it was >30°C.

Wow, didn't expect poll to agree with me (might well change). In fact, didn't realise I'd enabled voting at all.

I agree with pp give me this weather over that sheer heat any day. Least we can sleep . I can't think of much worse than heat waves and constant sun for weeks. I love Autumn tho.

Shoesonthefloor · 30/07/2023 00:39

It was dreadful for farmers, wildlife, forests etc last year though. If I had to choose it would be this but agree a few weeks in the 20's would be lovely

PurpleButterflyWings · 30/07/2023 00:40

If you'd asked me this a couple of weeks ago, I would have said, no! May and June were absolutely beautiful. And its nice to have two or three weeks of coolness and a little bit of rain.

But it's August in a couple of days - and I'm absolutely totally pissed off with the mid October type weather now. I mean we've had probably five or six days in July that has been nice - including today, but it's not enough. I want a good five or six week blast of 28 to 30 degrees C.

My sun tan from May and June has faded now. I'm really fed up. I want the summer back if only for a month.

mycatsanutter · 30/07/2023 00:41

I'm sick of this crappy weather it's nearly August and it's just rubbish , got a bargain pool in June still haven't had a run of a hot week that actually makes it worthwhile putting it up !

PurpleButterflyWings · 30/07/2023 00:41

Having said all of the above I'd rather have the weather we've got right now than 53 degrees Celsius and the country on fire! I think most people would agree with that, surely. Shock

Maybe I just need a few weeks of decent weather to get it out my system. But under 30c would be nice. It's the mud that gets me too. I've been having to wear a fresh pair of work trousers every day lately.

I'm with you OP - I love summer being summer. Long days, sunshine, bright days. Hate the rain and even worse warm rain when wearing a raincoat is like being in a plastic bag 🥴

It wasn't 53° in the UK was it? Surely that's death valley temps?

Hottest I remember in the Midlands was 34 outside and 44 in my truck as air con broke down. It was just about tolerable when driving with windows down but absolutely killer when waiting onsite with windows up due to the dust kicked up by passing diggers etc.

Thankfully I was rarely stationary for more than ten mins and didn't have to drive the trucks that often.

Last Summer's weather was unbearable for me- I live in the middle of England and we hit 40C - it was bloody awful, I agree this years weather is shit - I too have had the heating on in July and worn jumpers after being in summer dresses etc earlier in the year.
Today has been bright and lovely - around 23 and dry and sunny. After 3 miserable weekends where it has lashed it down with rain we have finally been able to cut the grass/dry washing and just enjoy sitting outside.
I have already vowed if there is ever a forecast for 38C plus again I'm booking an air- conditioned hotel for the night.

shivermetimbers77 · 30/07/2023 01:04

Nope, much prefer this years weather and it’s way better for wildlife. The pond in our local park dried up last year and all the frogs and newts died. This year they have a fighting chance.. 22 is actually typical temps for this time of year, we have just become used to heatwaves

AHugeTinyMistake · 30/07/2023 01:06

May and June have been lovely. I actually had a pretty decent tan going on at one point. Since we've hit July though it's been shit. Maybe a handful of nice days. When it's been warm it's been raining or unpleasantly muggy. Sun has been sporadic and it's been very windy sometimes.

I hope things improve next month

Agapornis · 30/07/2023 01:08

It's been humid hot jungle weather down here, with cooler nights. Compared to last year: I can sleep at night, the garden is green, the cats are happy, no hosepipe ban, the water tank with supposedly cold tapwater in the loft isn't overheating, we're not spending £££ and effort trying to cool down... What's not to love!

Threenow · 30/07/2023 01:17

I'm not even in the UK so nothing whatsoever to do with me. However, I have some friends in the UK and honestly the amount of rain you are getting (in some parts), or get even in a "normal" summer would drive me mad. Hot and dry, that's the kind of summer I like - even if I moan about the heat sometimes 😀

Gymnopedie · 30/07/2023 02:24

Some parts of the UK have had it worse than others. Up here in NW England we've really copped it. It's rained almost every day, usually heavily. July has been a washout and most of June wasn't much better. We had a couple of good weeks end of May/beginning of June and that's been it. So if it's a binary choice between this year's and last I'm definitely at the point where I would choose last year's weather for the rest of the summer.

FloweryName · 30/07/2023 02:27

Yanbu. This summer is shit.

PepeParapluie · 30/07/2023 02:34

It would be nice to have some sunshine yes, but I live very close to a place where houses were burnt down in wildfires last summer, so I wouldn’t wish for it to be like last year. The houses are still burnt out shells so I can’t say I wish it was like last year. But I am also quite fed up of rain and would like some sunnier days.

46mumof6 · 30/07/2023 02:37

I hate it when's it's to hot to do anything, I also works nights so easier to sleep during the day in weather like this

AnnaNims · 30/07/2023 02:41

Last summer was glorious. This summer has been shit.

QueefQueen80s · 30/07/2023 02:45

This summer! Crops, gardens, wildlife happy. I'm happy to not be uncomfortable
