To have preferred last summer's weather

I know this will be contentious but I'm a bit disappointed in this summer's weather tbh.

I don't really feel the cold and can't remember ever having the heating on in the summer but I've had it on three times in the past month!

It was defo a bit hot on a few days last year but there were lots of nice hot days with temps in late 20s. This summer just feels like it's been rain, overcast muggyness, and then some slightly chilly nights.

I want some proper scorchers!

Nope, I’d take rain over a heatwave any day. Rain and clouds don’t bother me at all, would rather have that than sweat rash and not being able to breathe properly. I just like the lighter nights, and I haven’t needed to wear a jacket for months!

This summer! Crops, gardens, wildlife happy. I'm happy to not be uncomfortable

Round here harvest is usually well under way by now. I go past fields that were ready a couple of weeks ago and are getting that greyish look now.
The farmer who delivered my haylage 2 weeks ago said his barley was ready to cut but the forecast wasn't good. He still hasn't een able to start cutting yet. As soon as it's just about dry enough there's more rain.

QueefQueen80s · 30/07/2023 03:07

@countrygirl99 Sorry you're right, I live next to a farmers field and he mentioned his crop is happy this year but you've reminded me that when he grows wheat or barley he prefers more heat/sun

HP89 · 30/07/2023 03:16

Last year was a nightmare for me (us/ the NHS) The ‘scorchers’ caused mine and many of my colleagues cars to break down in 40 degrees.
I worked in A&E at the time so you can imagine the devastation it caused having 20/30% reduced staff due to the heat, whilst dealing with a huge influx of patients due to the heat! Many many excess deaths nationally because of it!
Agree with a previous poster that this years weather is much better for night shift sleep ( I realise this is niche). But Trying to sleep last summer in the midday heat was a literal nightmare. I had to buy two air con units and sleep naked infront of them just to be able to get up to go to work at 7pm 🫠

I do understand that people want nice summers though, and I agree this summer has probably been disappointing to most!

countrygirl99 · 30/07/2023 03:18

Dry July and August is what the harvest needs. Dry spring is bad for yield.

nalabae · 30/07/2023 03:29

We will probably have a good autumn

HappilyContentTheseDays · 30/07/2023 03:45

Nope, I hate hot weather and last summer was utterly dreadful. No way do I want a return to that!

This summer is my dream summer!!
I mean, I'm not keen on all the rain but I'll happily take it to keep the sunshine away and the temperatures down. Oh, if only all our summers were like this one! And besides, here in the Midlands we've had some lovely sunny days, today was wall-to-wall sunshine all day....just blissfully cooler than normal.

Let's hope the jet stream doesn't bounce back and bring us all the heat from the continent. And who are all these people with their heating on?? I've still had my air conditioners going, even this year, the heat seems to build up in my place despite everything and I like to be cool, especially to sleep....

NoisePolice5 · 30/07/2023 04:23

Are you for real? Record breaking temperatures and wildfires a gogo in Europe and you’d rather we were back - or approaching those sort of temperatures? Ridiculous. If you have kids imagine what their lives will be like in even 5 years.

Twillow · 30/07/2023 04:28

I miss it too. I love the feeling of being relaxed in hot weather. Don't even want to go in the garden in this cloudy dullness. Feels like autumn. And I really hate this humidity.

Allmyghosts · 30/07/2023 04:34

Last summer doesn't stick out in my memory as being unbearable, which is odd as I don't like hot weather. The forecast for the next week says it won't get over 20, nice.

MintJulia · 30/07/2023 04:38

I'm happy if the temperature crawls above twenty degrees. I don't mind rain or heat. I'm perfectly happy in muggy weather.

I can't cope with the other end of the scale. I loath being cold. 😀 So summers are all good for me. Come November I wish I could hibernate.

PurplePetalPip · 30/07/2023 04:52

I think you're being unreasonable to have had the heating on 3 times in the last month... it's not been THAT cold!

Morestrangerthings1 · 30/07/2023 05:05

The whole world is going to have to get used to unstable weather conditions and big weather ‘events’ - extreme heat, very cold, too much rain, drought, and all the consequences they bring. The scientists have been warning us for years.

Gymnopedie · 30/07/2023 02:24

Some parts of the UK have had it worse than others. Up here in NW England we've really copped it. It's rained almost every day, usually heavily. July has been a washout and most of June wasn't much better. We had a couple of good weeks end of May/beginning of June and that's been it. So if it's a binary choice between this year's and last I'm definitely at the point where I would choose last year's weather for the rest of the summer.

I’m south East and it’s rained nearly every day here too!

Must admit though I’m really liking it in comparison to last year, which was far too hot for me.

That’s true, the humidity is grim. I sweat easily so humid conditions are not ideal for me. It makes me so self conscious😥

MillenialAvocado · 30/07/2023 06:15

Yabu, I think I'm still traumatised by that heatwave last summer.

thatsn0tmyname · 30/07/2023 06:19

My garden looks so much better this year and it's cool enough to go out with the children and not feel ill. Last summer's fires were terrible.

notol · 30/07/2023 06:19

Can't see a vote on the phone, but god no, this weather has felt like a godsend to me, I hate hot weather.

Marchitectmummy · 30/07/2023 06:28

Nope don't miss it at all, love this weather I can get everything done without being hot. This is the weather we had as children.

ThrappleApple · 30/07/2023 06:33

We've had 12 degree weather here. Our heating stays on all year and comes on when the house gets below 16 degrees at certain times of day. That's happened on multiple occasions this summer.

Duckmylife · 30/07/2023 06:54

I can't stand sunny weather, I much prefer cloudy. Not raining, not shining. Heatwaves are a nightmare!

Frazzlefrazle · 30/07/2023 06:58

I love hot weather so this is just awful.
I want to go to the beach and swim in the sea. I want to sit in the garden with a good book and enjoy the sunshine.
We don't really go abroad so our holidays are in the UK so that's really rubbish too.
I'd be fine with the colder weather if it was dry i think.

GotMooMilk · 30/07/2023 07:01

June was absolutely glorious with us (NW) for what seemed like ages so I accept this current weather as balancing us back out 😂 September is usually lovely and hopefully august will perk back up! We are away late august anyway so I’m just waiting for that to be honest…

yogasaurus · 30/07/2023 07:01

I agree, I love hot summers.

maddiemookins16mum · 30/07/2023 07:11

YANBU, it’s flippin miserable. Although it was too hot for me last year. This past week I got washing out once! It’s already dark by 9pm now and our tomatoes are still green.
We could do with a few weeks of sunshine and 24 degrees every day.
My pal who works for Jet2 has seen a 22% increase in late bookings compared to the same week last year.
