To have preferred last summer's weather

I know this will be contentious but I'm a bit disappointed in this summer's weather tbh.

I don't really feel the cold and can't remember ever having the heating on in the summer but I've had it on three times in the past month!

It was defo a bit hot on a few days last year but there were lots of nice hot days with temps in late 20s. This summer just feels like it's been rain, overcast muggyness, and then some slightly chilly nights.

I want some proper scorchers!

YANBU, worst summer I remember in London since I moved here twenty years ago

sanityisamyth · 30/07/2023 10:05

100%. When it got to over 32 it was getting uncomfortable but grey skies and rain js just depressing.

Ladyj84 · 30/07/2023 10:06

I love the heat and this year dismal for me as I have a condition that makes me feel the cold and damp badly. The amount of days out we've had planned it's rained so had to cancel them and we went away and it rained 9 of the 14 days

cadburyegg · 30/07/2023 10:08

YANBU. My ds1 has had a sickness bug this weekend and I've had to do a lot of washing - I think it's the first time in about a month I've been able to hang the washing outside! I just want a few weeks of 25ish degree weather 😕

Nope don't miss it at all, love this weather I can get everything done without being hot. This is the weather we had as children.

Except in 76 😉

We had lovely weather where I am in May and June, one night we were sitting out at midnight as it was so warm.

I don't mind the rain at all as long as it's not all day.

IhaveanewTVnow · 30/07/2023 10:15

Some warm evenings would be lovely. I just want to sit outside in the garden, enjoying the light evenings, rather than sat on my sofa, blanket over my legs (I always wear shorts in the summer) watching bloody Netflix.

ToxicBiennial · 30/07/2023 10:15

I hate to say it but yes I did prefer last summer’s weather. This weather is really getting me down.

IhaveanewTVnow · 30/07/2023 10:19

Over 25 degrees!! It was 15 degrees last Saturday at 4pm and I’m in the SE too.

countrygirl99 · 30/07/2023 10:53

Parts of the UK had nice weather in May but some of us didn't. Our horses normally go out 24/7 at the beginning of May but it was the end of May this year and the fields were still really wet.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/07/2023 10:55

No, last summer was horrible, especially for our then baby grandchild.

TeenLifeMum · 30/07/2023 11:47

I know that with climate change I really shouldn’t be jealous of Europe’s heatwave but I love the sun. I feel so much happier when I can sit in the garden in a summer dress. I think most people are nicer when it’s sunny. The only reason I’m not feeling down is because we fly to USA in 2 weeks so will have nice weather there. My brother just got back from Greece and said it was wonderful.

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 14:44

Wow, 49% to 51% split. Seems opinion is indeed quite split.

Maybe last summer was a bad comparison tbh. I guess I'd just like a 'normal' summer if such a thing still exists.

I do struggle with sleeping when it's too hot but my floor standing fan works a treat for me. Without that I'd defo be quite uncomfortable, though, but I'd defo accept some sticky nights to be able to enjoy a few warm lethargic afternoons and balmy evenings.

I've got a week off before starting my new job and just can't be arsed to go outside as it's grey and 15°C. Bit disappointing as realised today I've not had a day off work since last Oct aside from xmas when I had a mild bout of covid and felt meh.

Washing is wet and going to have to be spun and hung out again. I don't have a tumble dryer so this rain is a real PITA. 😐

Last summer was glorious. This summer has been shit.

Totally agree. It’s making me miserable

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 14:46

Forecast says rain every day for next week and not a single day over 20C. Highest is 18C and humid. FFS!

Gymmum82 · 30/07/2023 14:48

Last summer was a bit hot for me. But I’d take that 1000 times over instead of this dull, grey, miserable, wet weather.

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 14:48

Today is just grey and shit. This summer is 50 shades of grey lol.

It was dreadful for farmers, wildlife, forests etc last year though. If I had to choose it would be this but agree a few weeks in the 20's would be lovely

The constant rain is bad for farmers too. Crops will lie rotting as they can’t be gathered if fields are waterlogged.

OP, YANBU. It’s been really disappointing, feels more like April than the height of summer.

ILoveMontyDon · 30/07/2023 14:54

50 shades of sh*t more like. 😂The only good side is not having to water the garden.

Clutching at straws here.

Pasadenadreaming · 30/07/2023 15:00

YANBU. I'm in Scotland where we've had four weeks of school hols and it feels like it's rained every day. DD is keen to do bike rides, beach trips, and picnics and we've struggled to do any of them. We've been in jackets or jumpers most days and it's been quite windy too. Really fed up with it. Just want some dry, sunny days!

StripyHorse · 30/07/2023 15:49

ThrappleApple · 30/07/2023 07:41

June was absolutely glorious with us (NW) for what seemed like ages so I accept this current weather as balancing us back out

We didn't even get that glorious weather, it was restricted to the west of the country. We had friends who went to North Wales that week and had clear blue skies every day whilst it was damp and miserable back here in the midlands

I would much rather that weather now than during term time though. Kids in school were all hot and grumpy - but now it's the holidays the weather is miserable. It's so much easier to entertain children in the holidays for free! I wouldn't even mind if it was cooler but dry.

starrynight19 · 30/07/2023 15:58

So fed up with this grey , cold and wet summer. We had a lovely couple of weeks at the end of May and that’s been it. Haven’t been able to sit in the garden at all. Even on the odd dry days it’s cold.
We are currently booking a last minute get away for some much needed warmth.

IhaveanewTVnow · 02/08/2023 08:31

Today we have bikes booked to go for a ride. £60 non refundable. Weather warning here today, rain and strong winds! No way am I Going out in a bike. Going to see if I can get the money back but I really doubt it.

countrygirl99 · 02/08/2023 08:41

I'm at a checkpoint on a horse riding competition Saturday. Will be stuck out in the middle of nowhere and I know some of the checkpoints aren't accessible by car. 94% chance of rain☹️

PinkPink1 · 02/08/2023 09:20

I don't mind the temperature and much prefer this to heatwaves. At least I can sleep and my newborn is comfortable! Not sure why people put the heating on? I'm in the North and it's not cold. However, it's been raining almost everyday so it's miserable!

Longsuffering123 · 02/08/2023 09:41

Yanbu. It's been rubbish for the kids so far. Live in the NW and it's been grey and very wet every day since they broke up.
Last year was very hot yes but the kids have some fond memories of days out as a family. Can't afford to go abroad or anywhere exotic but managed to book a few days in Wales. Pretty sure it will be raining throughout.
