DH doesn't really think it's all that bad. He thinks we should be recyling more and caring for the planet as makes sense and is just the right thing to do - but that climate change as a disaster is an exaggeration and not based in science. And that people are utilising it for their own agenda, woke brigade & so on.

We have young kids.

AIBU to find this position increasingly problematic?

People are going to say people are allowed different opinions but he seems geniunely unconcerned about future of planet for our kids - and I find that hard to swallow.

That's because aerosols no longer contain ozone depleting chemicals. HTH

CFC's still being produced , albeit at much smaller levels but the world still uses them.

A lot of asthma inhalers contain greenhouse gases. They were changed from cfc's but metered dose inhalers like Ventolin have hydrofluroalkane (HFA) propellants. This has a high global warming impact. There is a big push towards prescribing dry powder inhalers instead that don't need a propellant but they don't tend to be as well liked by patients.

Well said! I wonder if people are as aware of the cruelty and exploitation of children used to mine the raw materials to make the batteries for EVs. Would they get as incensed about that as they are about so called climate change (remember it used to be called global warming but there’s a change in tactic now)? Or does the exploitation of children not matter as much? After all, they don’t have to see what’s happening in another part of the world because it’s ok to destroy their environment and their lives to save our own!! Are people aware that more energy and resources go into making one wind turbine than that wind turbine will ever produce energy in its entire lifetime? I’m sure not but then the green agenda isn’t as ‘green’ as some would like to convince themselves of!! Some just don’t want to face up to how much of a con we’re all being sold.

Are people aware that more energy and resources go into making one wind turbine than that wind turbine will ever produce energy in its entire lifetime?

No, because it’s not true. Here is an article that cites studies and explains where this myth came from.

Overblown: Wind turbines don’t take more energy to build than they will ever produce - Full Fact

A post claiming wind turbines can never produce as much energy as was taken to build them is based on a selective quotation and is incorrect.

But, yes, I do agree that there are a lot of concerns about EV mining and rare earth sustainability.

Asiatoyork · 01/08/2023 14:05

My understanding is that as the modelling grew more sophisticated and powerful (eg the Hadley centre in the Met Office) it became increasingly clear that global warming would not be the only impact and that climate change was more accurate - eg altered rain patterns

Back to the original question. Yes, you should leave him. If you feel that strongly about it, uproot and dismantle your family, and go find a tree hugger

That piece of "information" I believed was traced back to the nuclear power industry.

Oh, the irony

Asiatoyork · 05/08/2023 01:14

@riceuten sorry - which bit of information - the original myth or the link I posted about it?

In summary well placed units will pay back the energy, poorly placed ones maybe not. It raises the question is how many suitable locations are there? Enough?

The turbines just dont make enough and spend a lot of time stood still

Butchyrestingface · 05/08/2023 19:30

Are you sure YOU believe in climate change, OP? If you believed in climate change and wanted to mitigate its effects, a good way to do so would have been not to have kids.

I thought they were able to make 50% of our electricity. That's a lot.

i just searched for it and the “record” percentage is hovering at a little over 50% so I guess you are right. But I think the overall capacity must be far higher it’s just that there isn’t enough wind to access it. Also two of the records were around lunchtime, is that a lower usage time?

JeandeServiette · 06/08/2023 04:18

I'm getting more tolerant as I pass through my 40s.

Also, I'd wonder if he just didn't want to face the obvious, if he's fairly green anyway. Some people can't handle the truth, especially when they have young children.
