That Mumsnet should drop the D?

PlinkPlonkFizz · 24/07/2023 15:20

Adding D to all family, friends and pets is ridiculous! To see adults referring to their "DH" who has subjected them to assault or abuse is particularly nauseating. And DDog! FFS! Is it not just time to drop the D?

I think DDog is funny.

HighEndGrifters · 24/07/2023 15:21

Oh is it that time of the week again……

PerfectYear321 · 24/07/2023 15:22

It's funny when people say DF to mean dear friend but it could mean fiance or father. Gets super- confusing 😂

Prettypaisleyslippers · 24/07/2023 15:22

DCat is fine too

MucozadeOnLucozade · 24/07/2023 15:22

Mumsnet needs to change its name to parentsnet.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2023 15:22

'Mumsnet' isn't really a thing. We are all individuals I'm not.

And I like it. Plus women often put H when he's being a wanker. Or 'notveryD H'.

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 24/07/2023 15:23

How/where did it start?

Would be quicker to just write husband

YallaYallaaa · 24/07/2023 15:23

The best I’ve seen is Dgekko

I think it’s funny!

But not as expressive.

PurpleChrayne · 24/07/2023 15:24

I love when DD autocorrects to Dad, so you'll get stuff like "I was changing my Dad's nappy". Such fun.

I love DDog. It makes me smile.

Me and DP call the dog DDog. He has no idea why. He doesn't know it comes from MN

DSnake was good.

SouthCountryGirl · 24/07/2023 15:25

But "D" could also be dickhead?

Also see GF. Grandfather, goady fucker or gluten free?

Gracewithoutend · 24/07/2023 15:26

Yes, for DH but never for DDog. How dare you!

How/where did it start?

It started way, way, way back with the first message boards such as ivillage

LlynTegid · 24/07/2023 15:27

I like DDog- just wish DCat was mentioned more often.

Not expecting to read DMil though!!

DustyLee123 · 24/07/2023 15:28

I like DDog too 🐶

Anewuser · 24/07/2023 15:29

I get confused when I see GPs, do they mean grand parents or doctors?

PriamFarrl · 24/07/2023 15:30

I think that DH and DC are useful short hand. Much quicker to write ‘I went to the park with DH and DC’ than ‘I went to the park with my husband and children’.

I get confused with DS (3). Do they mean their 3rd child or that he is 3 years old?

SocksAndTheCity · 24/07/2023 15:32

My favourite so far has been DFish 😀

BravoMyDear · 24/07/2023 15:33

Funsponge! 🧽

marshmallowfinder · 24/07/2023 15:34

Yes! I completely agree. It's absolutely ridiculous. (But sadly they won't.)

Groutyonehereagain · 24/07/2023 15:34

I love my DDog 🐶❤️.
