That Mumsnet should drop the D?

Adding D to all family, friends and pets is ridiculous! To see adults referring to their "DH" who has subjected them to assault or abuse is particularly nauseating. And DDog! FFS! Is it not just time to drop the D?

I don't get it, why are people writing ddog and ddaughter, it looked like a typo to me.

Housenoob · 24/07/2023 16:12

Doesn't matter if they are D or not. They all have very outing hobbies.

mrssanchez · 24/07/2023 16:12

I'm fine with it, I always read it as a sarcastic "darling" husband...

I do hate DTD though, surely sex is the same amount of letters?

DSnake was good.

This makes me actually want to get a snake.

truelips · 24/07/2023 16:14

You know what I thought this and refuse to partake in it. If I mention my partner I just say partner or daughter etc

Abitofalark · 24/07/2023 16:15

It's not actually compulsory. You could just as well write H, M, F.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 24/07/2023 16:16

I call DH “DH” all the time

Hatari00 · 24/07/2023 16:16

I’ve always hated it and not use it. Too ‘twee’ for my liking..I’ve never called anyone ‘darling xyz’ in my life..

99victoria · 24/07/2023 16:18

I hate it - I always use OH

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 24/07/2023 16:18

Leave our DDogs out of it as they are more loyal and loving than most humans. It is funny people say DH when he is acting like a total knob head but it could also mean dickhead. Doesn't really bother me as sick of everything that has to be censored now.

LaMadameCholet · 24/07/2023 16:20

You realise that every time a poster refuses to type the “D”, somewhere some hummus curdles and a cello tutor dies?

🤦🏻‍♀️

No one is calling their husband darling, the D simply exists to shorten the sentence. You can just say H instead. Or think Dickhead H.

ShinetheLights · 24/07/2023 16:21

I agree.

It's so bloody twee and no one in real life uses that.

I never use the D when replying to posts, even if the OP has.

H is H , not DH in my opinion.

Willmafrockfit · 24/07/2023 16:22

i love my ddog

ShinetheLights · 24/07/2023 16:22

I thought D was for Dear/ Dearest, not Darling?

sparklefresh · 24/07/2023 16:23

I think DDog and DCat are cute!

LO (little one) seems to be creeping in - that makes my teeth (DTeeth?) itch

heyitsthistle · 24/07/2023 16:25

When I first joined Mumsnet I thought why is everyone DThis and DThat, why not just use "my husband?".

Turns out that I find stories waaaaaay easier to read if everyone is a DSomething. I lose the ability to follow along if there's a story with "my friends Anna, Sarah and Catherine".

Long Live the D!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 24/07/2023 16:25

DH in my mind mean Dickhead husband. Keep the D! I particularly like ddog. Makes me smile as it's not necessary, but is fun. Re confusion, e.g. SIL would usually mean sister-in-law but if the OP means son-in-law then it's up to her to make that clear on first use. I like the D in MN because it differentiates this 'club' from others.

mastertomsmum · 24/07/2023 16:25

Going off topic … there is a shop here called PMT 😂 Nothing to do with what you are probably thinking, it stands for Play Music Today. Makes me grin every time I pass it

EddieMunsen · 24/07/2023 16:26

I find it the most absurd thing about this site. Give me the smug performance parenting threads, multiple threads about celeb gossip, snooty threads about accents/supermarkets/clothes choices any time.

CoffeeCantata · 24/07/2023 16:26

Yes - it's a twee pain!

And often the person referred to doesn't seem to be 'dear' at all!

😆

Strawberrypicnic · 24/07/2023 16:28

My favourite example of the D was around the time of the vaccine rollout and somebody wrote that it "hadn't been tested on DCs yet". Lol

I agree I wish it would be dropped! It's pretty twee.

Nope.
When it’s an OP with a DH acting like a Dick Head, that’s what the DH then stands for. Same for a DP, acting like a Damn Prick…that’s what DP then stands for.

You get the idea :)

We never pass PMT. I dread to think what, as a family we have spent there in the past year alone.

But yes, funny name.
