Hot and bored on holiday

olympicsrock · 24/07/2023 13:09

So I’m definitely being a bit unreasonable . We are lucky enough to have a holiday house in Spain- sports resort . Golf/ cycling max DH loves it. We have a pool and aircon.

I’m perimenopausal with heat intolerance and overweight. We’ve been here 5 days now. I’ve read 3 books , bored of lying on a sun bed reading. It’s too hot to eat out in the evening . Even DH and the kids were hot and sticky in the evening at a restaurant. After an hour we were all keen to come home.

It’s too hot to go anywhere and do anything. The kids are happy in the pool.
I’m too old to be in a nightclub, I don’t want to watch sport or Jeremy Fucking Clarkson …

I hate cards and board games. Might have to resort to a jigsaw….

So i’m grumpy and drinking cold rose wine on the patio…… Cheer me up mumsnet please !

You should brave going out for dinner tonight OP, I hear a string quartet with the world's tiniest violins will be there to serenade you

Thoughts and prayers

NotHooray · 24/07/2023 13:21

Goodness me, you poor thing! Hmm

AlisonDonut · 24/07/2023 13:22

Maaaaaaate

I suppose trailing after DH to a sports resort when you're not sporty yourself gets old very quickly. I hope this isn't your only holiday. I'd probably rather stay at home tbh.

But can you make things better by keeping Spanish hours? Have a proper siesta and don't go out to dinner until 10/11 pm.

We were in Andalucia one August and decided to go to a Flamenco Festival. The posters said it started at 11 pm, but it was well after midnight before anything really happened and I think we had to give up and go home at 3 am, before the main act came on because the friends we had gone with had work the next day.

But if you're on holiday, if you are out and about at night, and sleep in the daytime, you'll probably find that there's quite a lot going on.

minipie · 24/07/2023 13:24

Is there an air conditioned gym in the complex?

goingslightlyinsane · 24/07/2023 13:24

Why don't you go for a swim? Do some laps??? Would be good exercise for you. Then read another book.

You have a holiday home in a sports complex but are overweight. That’s quite amusing.

Ridiculous comment
I have a well used spin bike and exercise most days but I'm overweight
Because exercise and fitness doesn't = thin

BlondeFool · 24/07/2023 13:26

Moaning from your holiday home! Get a grip.

Dixiechickonhols · 24/07/2023 13:26

Are you in villa with kids while he does what he fancies for hours (golf/cycle)?
Say tomorrow you are off out sightseeing.
If type of holiday isn’t working for you then don’t do it again.
I know someone who does the wife and kids in nice villa and he cycles for hours then all have dinner out at night.
It wouldn’t suit me but then my holiday wouldn’t suit them.

goingslightlyinsane · 24/07/2023 13:26

My comment sounds like I'm being mean. I actually meant it in a nice way. It would be good to get some endorphins and cool you down.

VeridicalVagabond · 24/07/2023 13:27

Come and stay in my house in Wales OP it's been pissing down for days you'll love it. I'll take over the burden of the holiday home and you can sit on the deck and soak in the beautiful Welsh weather. All I ask is you feed the dogs.

scrambledeggsandbeans · 24/07/2023 13:28

Poor you, I live in spain and did a ten hour shift in the kitchen of one of those restaurants you and your family could on spend an hour in. I feel your pain

DelphiniumBlue · 24/07/2023 13:29

strongcupofTea · 24/07/2023 13:20

Wow I'm so sorry for what you're going through Hmm

Maybe you need to get off the patio and go and see actual Spain. I'd be bored too just sat by a pool. I prefer to see the actual country.
Maybe that holiday home is wasted on you lot.

To be fair, OP has explained it is too hot to do anything, sightseeing won't really be on her list if it's 35 degrees plus.
OP, water is the only answer, get back in the pool or go to the beach. Or find a hotel with a bar, they are likely to have aircon. Or a bar on the beach.

Romesh, is that you? 🤣

LegendsBeyond · 24/07/2023 13:30

Why don’t you swim or cycle or go for a walk? I couldn’t just sit around all day. You need some exercise.

gelatogina · 24/07/2023 13:30

so sorry for your troubles OP, must be incredibly difficult for you

LMNT · 24/07/2023 13:30

To all of the snide posters, the OP is allowed to be more well off than you. She’s allowed to complain about things that don’t make her happy despite being wealthier than you.

The amount of envy on this thread is palpable.

Is there a shopping centre nearby that you can go visit?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/07/2023 13:31

Dick comment

One of many on this thread.

Lottapianos · 24/07/2023 13:31

Well, plenty of smartarse comments as expected.... You can have my sympathy OP. The weather in Spain looks absolutely horrendous. I've had miserable, stifling times on holiday too, it's not always fun and games. Yes you're lucky to be able to afford to get away etc etc but I understand that it's not a lot of fun at the moment

When do you come home?

LimeCheesecake · 24/07/2023 13:31

Get in the pool? Madness not to.

drive to an air conned place? Shopping centres and museums usually are cooled.

Hankunamatata · 24/07/2023 13:32

Audiobook? And phone game are my go to

ilovebagpuss · 24/07/2023 13:32

Sounds a bit isolated and boring for what I would want from a holiday. However you are there now and sitting by the pool with Rose sounds fab from cold wet UK.
Can you get out and explore a local town maybe later in the day if it is slightly cooler?
Trains are great in Spain we did 3 locations last year and explored loads even though it was boiling.

CheersToMe · 24/07/2023 13:32

Don't come whining to me that you're bored when I spent a fortune to bring you hereWink

Get in the pool and play with your DC or do some laps.

Head out to an air conditioned supermarket and buy stuff for easy dinners so you don't have to go out.

Siesta

Head out after dark for sightseeing/ ambling around / drinks.

Buy something crafty / arty to do.

Watch something that isn't sport...
