Hot and bored on holiday

So I’m definitely being a bit unreasonable . We are lucky enough to have a holiday house in Spain- sports resort . Golf/ cycling max DH loves it. We have a pool and aircon.

I’m perimenopausal with heat intolerance and overweight. We’ve been here 5 days now. I’ve read 3 books , bored of lying on a sun bed reading. It’s too hot to eat out in the evening . Even DH and the kids were hot and sticky in the evening at a restaurant. After an hour we were all keen to come home.

It’s too hot to go anywhere and do anything. The kids are happy in the pool.
I’m too old to be in a nightclub, I don’t want to watch sport or Jeremy Fucking Clarkson …

I hate cards and board games. Might have to resort to a jigsaw….

So i’m grumpy and drinking cold rose wine on the patio…… Cheer me up mumsnet please !

Maybe listen to some of the criticism, it may make you less self-absorbed and able to read the room better in future!

Oh do get a life. People are allowed to be pissed off, even if their circumstances are way more fortunate than many

Offs. Akaik OP is a surgeon. She’s entitled to a decent break imo.

Maybe you should RTWT as take note of @olympicsrock replies
She has definitely listened and your response isn't necessary

Crikeyalmighty · 27/07/2023 17:21

@olympicsrock Yep I think peak season isn't for me either- I just end up frazzled- maybe if I lose 4 stone I might tolerate it more!! I do like hot weather but in small doses of an hour or two at a time! It doesn't help too that I'm not great at lying round in it for hours as I get stiff

But the phrase 'read the room' refers when someone has added inappropriately to an existing conversation. OP has not posted this on the cost of living board.

I spend my whole life sorting out other people’s problems and listening to others thanks.

Being fed up of being hot is just as valid as being fed up of the rain. Surely mumsnet is a reasonable place to talk about menopause and marriage problems??

Having a decent salary doesn’t mean I can’t feel unhappy. Those saying “read the room” should consider that.

Update: I’ve adjusted to the heat ( it’s been less humid too) and had a much better time over the last few days. Actually enjoying chilling now. I often find it hard to switch off and relax on holiday as I am such a workaholic.

Gave myself a bit of a kick up the backside and had a serious chat with DH about him not buggering off for the whole holiday to do sport leaving me in charge of the kids . Also not doing holidays at the hottest time of the year

Planned evenings with friends and food after 9 pm so less sticky and it has been nice to have adult conversation/ company.

Also made a firm decision to lose weight and prioritize myself more at home instead of work and looking after the kids.

Thanks to those who understood the bigger picture and cheered me up , gave me good suggestions.

Glad to hear it op. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. I hope you get some decent and fun family time.

In fairness, in that sort of heat, boredom sets in very quickly We have had it for two weeks now where I live and you can’t go out. Everything is Burt to a frazzle. Give me a bit of mizzly Irish rain any day. ( point of origin).
