I don't know what these people think they are achieving. I think the mum was in a cab which looks like an electric car anyway, they refuse to let her get past.

“the insults coming in are poor really”

You are not being insulted ivykaty44. You are being told that you’re wrong and that your blinkered stance is foolish.

Again, do you have children?

id agree being called foolish isn't really a decent debate or insulting.

I was here to debate not answer personal question.

BeverlyBrook · 22/07/2023 14:55

Completely agree with this ATerror.
As a mother it's making me anxious just watching part of the video. There's no way any of the protestors or the flying monkeys on this thread are mothers.

Agreed. The lack of empathy for a parent with a sick child is chilling.

Just complete tunnel vision in favour of their personal hobbyhorse.

BeverlyBrook · 22/07/2023 15:05

ElEmEnOhPee · 22/07/2023 15:00

I'd love to see what would happen if someone run one of the protesters over and mangled their leg. Would they be told to jump on a bike and cycle to hospital or hop on the tube? Or would they get mummy and daddy to fly a private jet down to rescue them 🙄Pathetic people, most of them have no idea about living in the real world, like being hit by the COL crisis and then being prevented from going to work because some jobless privileged arseholes want to throw a tantrum and get some attention.

Agree. I think this is a class thing now.
If you can shop at Waitrose who are you to tell someone who can only afford Lidl and Iceland how to live their life. No. Just piss off and lobby daddy's chums like you should have done in time first place.

you've been conditioned to only travel by car, but im the foolish one. its quicker to travel by bike taxi than it is by motorised taxi in London - but don't let fact get in the way of your poor insults

Some people can't ride bikes due to disability.

Asking someone if they have children to imply that maybe they’re being arseholes/have terrible opinions because they don’t, is really insulting. Lots of us are childless, childfree, have lost children, are pregnant, are trying, are not mums yet and would never agree with the opinions you are against.

You talk about JSO alienating people and you’re doing the same in a way that will be very hurtful to some of the groups I’ve mentioned.

Quelle surprise.

I shall assume no, then.

Gladreel · 22/07/2023 15:07

In cases like this, the police should be able to drag them off the road and keep them off, if need be. I don't understand why they got one of them a chair and gently eased his glued hand off the petrol pump he'd mindlessly destroyed, when in France, you can see the video of the protestor having his glued hand pulled off the road and told he shouldn't have done it in the first place when the dramatic ouches started.

MillicentBystandr · 22/07/2023 15:07

Summerhillsquare · 22/07/2023 14:04

But they are not. They are doing it to attract attention to the cause (much as the suffragettes for example did), which as you can see from this thread and others, is effective.

And just like the suffragettes set back the movement suffrage for women by decades, JSO is also hindering the movement to go carbon zero.

Some people can't ride bikes due to disability.

Many people with disabilities use bikes as a walking aid, it gives them freedom. Not every disability is the same so some it will help greatly, that shouldn't be stopped due to those that can't ride a bike

MillicentBystandr · 22/07/2023 15:09

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 22/07/2023 14:11

I’ve seen interviews where they said they wouldn’t let an ambulance through as they have a point to make and one or a few people dying in traffic jams is better than the world dying. So they say they’re justified. Nutters.

Yes, I’ve seen those interviews as well. They justify it by saying it’s better for a few to die now than the millions dying by genocide and actually anyone dying now is lucky as it’s end of days and what about all the people dying or about to die right now in the global south.

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2023 15:09

And just like the suffragettes set back the movement suffrage for women by decades, JSO is also hindering the movement to go carbon zero

so it wasn't the First World War that did that?

suffragette started in 1903 and got the vote for all men and woman by 1920s

Nonsense. I’m assuming that this particular poster, who clearly has no empathy for the mother in question, has never been in the same situation.

Never said it should be stopped but neither should cars or buses or trains. Some of us have no option but to use a mobility car or go by train/bus.

Iolani · 22/07/2023 15:11

Has this really turned into a class debate by some.
The rich telling the poor what to do.?
Are all the protestors from a certain class?
Why do so any MN discussions become skewed by envy and misinformation.

You didn’t ask if they had been in the same situation. You asked if they had children. Implying someone without children wouldn’t be able to empathise with the mother while someone with children would.

A bike doesn't work for my kind of disability . I need to be able to us a car or bus. It's not optional for me. If cars and buses were banned I would have no freedom.

MillicentBystandr · 22/07/2023 15:13

Summerhillsquare · 22/07/2023 14:16

Yes they do and they're right. The suffragettes were massively unpopular (and also accused of elitism), and yet, I trotted down to the polling station to vote in May.

Which is of course what you can do to vote for whichever climate denier is standing.

The suffragettes didn’t win us the vote. 😟

It was the suffragists who got women the vote.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 22/07/2023 15:13

I think if anyone dies due to being prevented urgent medical care, then these protesters should be charged with manslaughter.

Agreed

It's not effective. I have been an activist for environmental causes since 2004, and a vegan since 2006. These hypocritical, useless, spoiled Just Stop Oil people are making the entire western world despise environmentalists. There are making the general public so angry with protestors that the government will soon be able to get away with passing draconian anti-protest laws. I think both of these things are actually the real point of these paid, fake "activists".

iklboo · 22/07/2023 15:13

You know not everyone lives in London, right? You know a great deal of the UK doesn't have the level of public transport as London, right? Those are facts.

And the woman was supposed to put her sick baby on a bike, was she?

HirplesWithHaggis · 22/07/2023 15:13

If the mum and baby had taken a bicycle taxi to hospital, do you think the protesters would have let them through? 🤔

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2023 15:15

A bike doesn't work for my kind of disability . I need to be able to us a car or bus. It's not optional for me. If cars and buses were banned I would have no freedom.

It would be better for you if there were less cars on the road causing congestion and traffic flowed more freely for those that can't use other modes of transport

Anonymouslyposting · 22/07/2023 15:15

As others have said, if I was in that mother’s position, and I’d explained that I had a newborn in the car who needed to get to hospital and they’d remained in the way then I would have just run them over. Sooner or later someone will do just that and good on them.
