I don't know what these people think they are achieving. I think the mum was in a cab which looks like an electric car anyway, they refuse to let her get past.

I saw this, awful. I don't know why they're doing it. Surely letting the mum through then carryon on would have made more sense?

Stripeyjumper1 · 22/07/2023 14:05

I don't really see the point in this type of protest? They are achieving absolutely nothing and making a whole host of enemies along the way.

A lot of them are hypocrites anyway and fly around the world on expensive holidays, fucking ridiculous

MNetcurtains · 22/07/2023 13:40

JSO have also been responsible for obstructing blue light ambulances...

Their obstruction of ambulances is beyond appalling and they need to be dealt with.

Exactly . It's just an excuse to cause aggro. I would sympathise with their cause if their protests didn't cause this kind of harm but it's hard to take them seriously

Deliberate obstruction of an ambulance which is driving under emergency conditions is a criminal offence so police have the power to arrest / remove them very easily in that scenario.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 22/07/2023 14:11

I’ve seen interviews where they said they wouldn’t let an ambulance through as they have a point to make and one or a few people dying in traffic jams is better than the world dying. So they say they’re justified. Nutters.

Conkersinautumn · 22/07/2023 14:12

They have as much empathy for humanity as the capitalist arseholes that profit on the over use of fossil fuels. They're only in it to post in social media.

Summerhillsquare · 22/07/2023 14:04

But they are not. They are doing it to attract attention to the cause (much as the suffragettes for example did), which as you can see from this thread and others, is effective.

And they think this type of attention is going to get them more support do they? I can't think of a single person who would join them after seeing this is what they're willing to do. Its disgusting behaviour

Minesril · 22/07/2023 14:15

I don't drive partly from environmental reasons, so I have broad sympathy for them. But this means I have to get a taxi on the odd occasion to A&E for my toddler. If this was me I'd be screaming at the stupid fuckers and quite possibly throwing a punch. I bet they would have let the baby through if it had been with its dad!

No it isn’t. It’s achieving the complete opposite. Alienating people who actually mostly agree with their objectives.

Summerhillsquare · 22/07/2023 14:16

Yes they do and they're right. The suffragettes were massively unpopular (and also accused of elitism), and yet, I trotted down to the polling station to vote in May.

Which is of course what you can do to vote for whichever climate denier is standing.

Ah, the Sun,ever reliable in its sources and champion of working people 💪

I mean the video has been widely shared if you want to avoid the Sun.

They're mainly a bunch of middle to upper clash privileged cnuts who fail to realise they're playing into the government's hands by enraging ordinary working people just going about their business. How better to get the public to support your proposed policy changes to the right to protest? A lot aren't against protest in general but if I walked slowly in the road or caused traffic issues I'd be moved on- let's think why no one is doing anything eh.

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2023 14:17

did these screaming parents care when this child died Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah?
did these parents care when 36000 others died prematurely?

suddenly they care now though...

I don’t believe for a moment that a single suffragette would have prevented a mother with a sick child from getting to hospital.

Just as they ceased protests to help with the war effort, for the greater good. I very much doubt the JSO protestors would do the same were we suddenly to find our country in conflict.

Comparing the two groups is disingenuous.

Don’t mistake “what a bunch of c*nts” for benefitting the cause.

When you're taking your child to hospital, it's YOUR child that you're anxious about..and there's not a mother in this country that would put a demonstration first, even if it was fighting for something they were passionate about.

So yes you can care about climate change and pollution but still be angry and distressed when your child needs hospital attention and demonstrators prevent you getting them there.

LivinDaylights · 22/07/2023 14:26

If I had a new born baby in the car in need of urgent hospital care I would have nudged them out the way with my car, obviously wouldn't have mown them down but I'd have let them get the idea, move or I will run you over. How can you be so nutty to block anyone's path in need of urgent care? Would they let an ambulance on blue lights through?

lunar1 · 22/07/2023 14:26

My youngest once had to be resuscitated, if anyone had deliberately got between us and that hospital there is no violence I wouldn't have inflicted on them.

I genuinely think any mother who had their child in the car (taxi in this case?) heading to hospital wouldn't just sit there and say ah well they're doing this for a good cause, anyone who does is a shit parent and talking shit. You don't know what people do to support the environment anyway, it's not as black and white to say: support these chumps otherwise you don't do anything good and you don't care about people dying of pollution.

Lock them all up for years that will soon stop em

SweetPotatoAndPeanutStew · 22/07/2023 14:28

Does anyone actually know anyone/know of anyone who is a JSO protestor?

RJ2023 · 22/07/2023 14:30

I can understand both sides but I always think it is a shame that there was an (unrelated) red flag on the first lap of the British Grand Prix last year.

In the absence of that red flag, the outcome of what would have happened on the Wellington straight at Silverstone on live TV in front of a global audience of millions would have put the topic to the top of the agenda for the media for several weeks and it would have led to a solution to the protests being found, instead of these annoying smoldering protests we continue to have at the moment

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 22/07/2023 14:33

@LivinDaylights
A young mom was prosecuted recently for doing that exact same thing. Nudging somebody in her car while those protesters sat in the middle of the road. She has a criminal record now and was just trying to drive her DC somewhere. I cannot understand why the police cannot just remove and arrest them each and every time.

No I'm working class and they don't mingle with us peasants.
