Collecting what may or may not be my dog’s poo from someone’s bin?

Laboheme78 · 17/07/2023 21:12

I have dogs and always pick up their poo. I live in an area where dog poo is an issue but the bins are far apart, so occasionally if my dog does a poo I pick it up in a heavy duty poo bag, tie it and put it in someone’s black bin if they’ve left it outside.

We have a village Facebook group and I’ve just seen someone ranting about the poo bag that has been put in their bin. I suppose it does make a change from people ranting that dog poo hasn’t been picked up at all. But I honestly don’t know if it was me - I do sometimes pass that way but certainly wasn’t today. They are asking for the perpetrators (!) to come and collect the poo.

AIBU to not collect it? I have walked that way this week so it is possible it was me but I don’t know?

I would have no problem with someone putting their rubbish in my bin... In fact, I don't check my bin at all to make sure there's only my rubbish in it!
Bins stink anyway once your own rubbish is in it, and I'm not taking it in the house so... Meh. I don't see what the fuss is about.

notasoldasiseem · 18/07/2023 12:34

As someone earlier in the thread mentioned - not all my bins are for general waste. Some lazy dog walker stuck their dog poo bag in my garden bin. Our bins are often collected very early in the morning so it takes an hour or so before I can get them in. Take your dog poo home.

3dogsandarabbit · 18/07/2023 12:41

Just no. I am a dog owner and would never do this. Just take it with you until you find a council bin or take it home. I would be really annoyed if someone did this to me.

sunglassesonthetable · 18/07/2023 12:48

Exactly.

Will they take care not to use my Recycling Bin, my Food Waste Bin, my Garden Waste Bin and make sure they put it in my General Waste bin?

Doubt it.

purplecorkheart · 18/07/2023 12:53

Please do not do this. We had someone who put a poo tied up in a bag into our recycling bins. Bin people opened bin and refused to take collection. Sorry but you need to bring it home with you. It does not matter if the dog waste bins are far apart or not there at all. Your dog, your issue.

applesandmares · 18/07/2023 12:57

Lol I don't do this (there aren't household bins around where I walk my dog) but I had no idea that people were so precious about their outside bins 😂 I wouldn't think twice if I saw your dogs poop bag in my bin OP. It's an outside bin, it's already pretty gross and smelly.

FooFighter99 · 18/07/2023 13:04

I have, occasionally, put a bag of dog poo in someone else's black bin when walking my dog, but ONLY if it's black bin day AND the bin hasn't been emptied.

I would have no issue at all with someone doing the same in my bin in the same circumstances (our bins are in the backs though, so no one walks past them)

I would NEVER put dog poo in a bin that had just been emptied, as it could potentially sit there for 3 weeks, which would be gross

I don't get why people are so precious about their black bins, it's not like you take it inside your house after it's been emptied.... And surely it's better for the bag to be disposed of than the poo not to be picked up at all?

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/07/2023 13:08

I do it if its bin day and the bin in question is not yet emptied, and is on the street (im not going up someones driveway to do this!)

Round here they are not 'our' bins, they are council bins, and the council say this is fine. In fact they use it to justify why there are nowhere near enough dog bins 'you can drop it in any normal waste bin'...

I wouldn't drop one in an emptied bin, some folk pay to have those cleaned and the bags can split. Nor would I stick it in the recycling bin as that is also disgusting.

Tis pretty rare this happens as most days I am not out until bins have been emptied, but there have been occasions where theres too much to juggle with dogs, poo bags, leads, poo picky grabber and I haven't enough hands/places to hang things.

No no no! Your dog poo does not belong in someone's regular domestic bin FFS.
Fucking gross.”

This.

Agree

sunglassesonthetable · 18/07/2023 13:13

I don't get why people are so precious about their black bins,

Tbh I'm not as precious as the actual bin men are.

You might not mind but there are a lot of us who actively dislike dogs and even more can’t stand the resultant shit everywhere. If you chose to live with an animal for which you will need you to physically bend down and pick up its excrement every day of its life, you deal with it - why should I have to confront it?!

Karrpt · 18/07/2023 13:16

Ugh. Dirty cheeky fuckers. Get out of my bin

HaddawayAndShite · 18/07/2023 13:23

Those who aren’t precious about their bin, can I have your address and when bin collection day is? It’s just, I have IBD, and since you don’t mind sloppy shit floating around your bin, I’ll know where I can drop my kegs and fire off next time I have a flare up and I’m out and about. It’s only shit right?

Desdemona44 · 18/07/2023 13:36

I don't know why people are saying its better in the bin than on the pavement as if that's the only choice - it's actually a choice between in the bin or the lazy dog owner taking their dogs shit to a public bin or home with them.

I don't think I will ever understand why some dog owners feel the need to inflict their choice of pets on everyone around them. I don't want your dog jumping up on me, I don't want your dogs shit in my bin, I don't want anything to do with YOUR pet. It's really fucking simple

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/07/2023 13:40

JustMint · 17/07/2023 21:13

Could have been me… I’m a bin borrower too. If you don’t want poop in your bin then stick a sign on it or move it out of reach from the path

You’re not a “borrower”. You’re a user of someone else’s bin. You’re not returning the bin in the same condition as before you “borrowed” it.

And borrowing implies asking permission first.

CleverLilViper · 18/07/2023 13:46

I have two dogs.

Where I live there’s no public bins to put dog crap in except for the public park that I don’t always go to but I would never dump it into someone else’s bin. I just carry it home and put it in my own.

Why would anyone even think this is acceptable?

I’ve had people put their rubbish in my bin before and it’s annoyed me because they filled it and when I went to put some in I couldn’t.

Rubyupbeat · 18/07/2023 13:51

That is disgusting, take it home and put it in your own bin, then you will realise the utter stench of it. I have 2 big dogs and their garden poo goes in our bin, triple bagged and the smell is still horrendous!

lovelifeat40 · 17/07/2023 21:50

Ohhh, gawwwwd, of course you are fine using some lazy fucker's bin, I am a dog sitter and wouldn't give shit (excuse the pun) if you used my black bin (that is owned by the council, BTW) to drop a bagged dog shit. Get a grip MN!!!! a bin is a bin!!!!

I'm sorry why are they lazy fuckers? Weird comment which I assume means that people are lazy not taking their bin back up the drive straight away? Guess what, some people are out of the house all day working, so not physically there so pipe down.

Riapia · 18/07/2023 13:54

That person will be irate if you just chucked a bag of dog shit in their bin without asking.
Next time you’re passing put the bag of shit on the lid of the bin.
Give them the choice of where they wish to dispose of it.
Good manners cost nothing. 😁😁😁

Why is the bin owner a lazy fucker? That literally makes no sense. It's not. Arraying your dog poop home that's lazy surely.

From my point of view, full bin about to be collect = fine. Empty bin waiting to be taken back in and not emptied by council for 2 weeks? = CF. Not fine.

Perimoody · 18/07/2023 15:00

Really?! I’m surprised by these responses. But why would you care? It’s a black bin and the bin people take care of it. It’s not like you’d ever have to touch it or deal with it?

Honestly confused.

I’m not a “bin borrower” but couldn’t care less if someone borrowed mine!

Genuine question to those who are outraged: why??

mambojambodothetango · 18/07/2023 15:06

You buy a dog, you pick up its shit and take it home. No excuses. Anyone caught putting their dog shit in my bin will sorely regret it. The entitlement of some dog owners astounds me.

sunglassesonthetable · 18/07/2023 15:07

If it gets squashed and bursts - yes you have to deal with a dog pooey bin -

My bin men don't take dog poo - they'd not take the bin. Especially in the wrong one.

You haven't really read the responses have you.

Netcam · 18/07/2023 15:08

We have a dog and I would never do that. We don't put it in our own bin as it can smell after a while and might not be disposed of in the same way as designated dog poo bins. Carry it until you come to a dog poo bin.

Brefugee · 18/07/2023 15:09

bloody norah, don't put your dog poo in other people's bins.

In other news: our village facebook group is up in arms because an old, infirm on her pins, lady has a huge pile of horse shit on the path outside her house. And the person whose horse it is, who several of us saw do it, has refused to come an clean up because "that's what horses do" and "once someone's dog shit near their path and didn't clean it up". It's causing a right ruckus. The old lady is insisting horse lady pick it up, horse lady is digging in. Horse lady has far fewer supporters though. I can see this is going to be our entertainment for the next week or so.
