Collecting what may or may not be my dog’s poo from someone’s bin?

Laboheme78 · 17/07/2023 21:12

I have dogs and always pick up their poo. I live in an area where dog poo is an issue but the bins are far apart, so occasionally if my dog does a poo I pick it up in a heavy duty poo bag, tie it and put it in someone’s black bin if they’ve left it outside.

We have a village Facebook group and I’ve just seen someone ranting about the poo bag that has been put in their bin. I suppose it does make a change from people ranting that dog poo hasn’t been picked up at all. But I honestly don’t know if it was me - I do sometimes pass that way but certainly wasn’t today. They are asking for the perpetrators (!) to come and collect the poo.

AIBU to not collect it? I have walked that way this week so it is possible it was me but I don’t know?

Could have been me… I’m a bin borrower too. If you don’t want poop in your bin then stick a sign on it or move it out of reach from the path

I live in a terrace and my "front garden" is 80cm deep. Where else would you like me to put my bin Justmint?

I dont want your dogs mess in my bin, take it home and put it in yours!

Yfory · 18/07/2023 15:12

So to clarify.......... that doesnt mean my bin gets left on the pavement - I bring it off the pavement onto the little bit of front space that we've got. Where selfish lazy dog owners (or other varieties of CF) could quite easily put stuff - because there is nowhere else for our bin to go. Thankfully it doesnt appear to have happened yet.

NO!! Instead of expecting the bin.owner to take responsibility, MAYBE the dog owner just needs to accept they may need to carry a poop bag a bit further, or even home!

BTW I have a dog and i wouldn't put HIS poop bags in MY bin, they go in the Street bins! Can understand why they were upset!

Really?! I’m surprised by these responses. But why would you care? It’s a black bin and the bin people take care of it. It’s not like you’d ever have to touch it or deal with it?

Honestly confused.

I’m not a “bin borrower” but couldn’t care less if someone borrowed mine!

Genuine question to those who are outraged: why??

See my previous comment. I see the 'bin borrowers' on here have conveniently chosen to ignore.

Paininthederriere · 18/07/2023 15:18

Peoples’ bins are not public property! They’re not for public use. So take your dog shit home with you & put it in your own bin. Can’t see how you think this is ok?

As to other “bin borrowers” why the hell should we go to the lengths of “putting a sign” on our bins to say we don’t want dog poo putting in it??!

Some v weird people out there!

Elsiebear90 · 18/07/2023 15:21

Meh, I do this if it’s collection day, I wouldn’t do it with an empty bin in case the bag burst, but some people really are precious. It’s a bin, you’re not eating your dinner out of it.

Paininthederriere · 18/07/2023 15:25

Curious to know if those who do this would be happy to find others using their bin this way?

And why it’s so difficult for them to not just take it home with them?

Btw dog owner & dog lover here. Nothing to do with people hating dogs - is to do with people hating CF’s!

Brefugee · 18/07/2023 15:30

(not in uk) in one place i lived the rubbish was separated (paper, glass, recyclables, food waste including grass clippings, general waste.)

In an attempt to encourage proper recycling, the general waste bins were weighed, and you literally paid per kilo. (the other bins were monitored carefully). The general waste bins had a clever lock, it could be opened by the owner (magnetic key thing) or the bin truck when the bin was lifted into the emptying position.

It was brilliant. Nobody could dump stuff in your bin. You only had to be careful to grab your other bins in before some fucker threw general waste in your recycling bin as they walked past. But the retirees in our village were usually out and about and would scold people for doing that and make them get it out.

Please pull the other one.

What you open the lid and peer in first? . Nah you just drop it in and then if you realise it's empty , don't tell me, you're fishing around to get it out?

That nonsense is what's really precious.

Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the bin isn’t going to be empty when it’s at the end of someone’s drive the night before collection. Also, I have eyes.

Double bag it and carry it

nat as bad as the poster (s) who leave it under a hedge and pick it up off their way home 🙄 but still revolting the smell seeps through those bags

Or the woman that left poo bags under the shrubs, behind the wall of my front garden as well as picking up and leaving them on the pavements. It took me a while but I found out who owned the dogs she was walking, another woman who left a turd at the end of my drive (dog turd, not her own) conveniently caught on camera.

One of them must be in the local FB group and had seen my posts in there.

Seems to have stopped, outside my house at least.

blahblahblah1654 · 18/07/2023 15:51

It's pretty disgusting. Use your own bin.

Seems to be rocket science that other people , whom the bin actually belongs to, might not like it and might not want to run the risk of the bag slitting say.

But they're precious. Not you.

I have, occasionally, put a bag of dog poo in someone else's black bin when walking my dog, but ONLY if it's black bin day AND the bin hasn't been emptied.

I would have no issue at all with someone doing the same in my bin in the same circumstances (our bins are in the backs though, so no one walks past them)

I would NEVER put dog poo in a bin that had just been emptied, as it could potentially sit there for 3 weeks, which would be gross

I don't get why people are so precious about their black bins, it's not like you take it inside your house after it's been emptied.... And surely it's better for the bag to be disposed of than the poo not to be picked up at all?

Actually, if you live in a back to back terrace, wheelie bins do have to be wheeled from the garden through the house to put them out.

MonumentalLentil · 18/07/2023 16:03

Jakadaal · 18/07/2023 11:48

Regholdsworthwaterbed but house hold bins are provided by and emptied by local councils just like public bins

And the housholder has to pay Council tax to use them. They are not free, or provided for public use.

I am sick of having to watch for the bins to be emptied so I can get them in before some disgusting slob dumps a bag of shit in the bottom of my bin which I then have to remove before I can put my household waste in, otherwise the shit bag breaks and I have to clean the bin out.

You might have low standards of cleanliness but some of us don't want to live with your shit.

Well, yeah - lift lid, is it full - yes, drop in poobag (unless so full the poo bag means it wont shut which means the bin men won't take it), if no, carry on til the next bin.

I do generally take them home but there have been times I have had to negotiate some pretty narrow paths where swinging several bags of poo plus holding dog lead has been risky, and hanging it off the back of the chair means its likely to get torn by brambles etc (or i can avoid those but scratch the car parked on the pavement).

I try to avoid bin night/bin morning as it makes negotiating pavements harder anyway, but sometimes its better to get rid of the poobags fast than try to take them home and risk bursting one. Once one has split and dumped shite all over the pavement, I can't pick it up - the poo picker only picks up solid lumps, it won't deal with smeared bits, so I have to come home then send DP out with some squirty water bottles and kitchen roll. That has only happened once but I keen to keep it that way!

putting dog poo in someone elses bin is DISGUSTING

I had it happen to me and saw red (and I have a dog!)

Well getting this worked up about someone putting a bag in your bin that’s going to be emptied the next day is quite precious, you watching everyone who walks past your bin to check they don’t put anything in it? Checking it repeatedly before the bin men come to make sure nothing is added? It’s just such a minor thing to get so angry about.

Who does that? I don't . Not sure where you got that from tbh.

BUT EVEN IF I DID, tough 💩 really, it's the prerogative of the owner who's probably had a vile experience with someone else's split dog poo bag. With shit everywhere.

I love how you know what is 'minor' to other

WTF !!!!
You DO know bins need to go out for collection don't you and the binmen aren't gonna wheel it neatly into you back garden for you

Why would someone have to put a notice up to say they don't want dog shit in their bin - surely that is obvious.

Some people are just beyond disgusting

Probably the same way you apparently know what constitutes unacceptable CF behaviour…

I guess I just find your outrage at something that would not cause any issues (tied bags sat on top of rubbish don’t just spontaneously erupt), a bit precious and ridiculous tbh. It’s a bin, it’s dirty anyway and due to be emptied, the poo is in a tied up bag sat on top of other bags not smeared all over the place.

If you can't get home without the bags breaking or scratching cars then you either need better bags or to take your dog somewhere else for a walk. Putting shit into somebody's bin because you are struggling is never acceptable.

If they dont spontaneously erupt . Take them back to yours. Bit precious to not want to carry them.

I'm a dog owner and I don't put them in my own bin. My ( precious ) prerogative.

What are peoples reason for not being able to take their bags of dog poo home with them?
