To not get the Taylor swift hype?

I have my hard hat on.
Probably going to get my arse handed to me on a plate.

I really don't get all this fuss about Taylor swift, I just find her utterly boring. All this fuss about midnight / album / preorders / codes to then try and attempt to get tickets in Scotland when you live on the cliffs of lands end. Threads and threads about it and people planning their outfits when the gig is a year away, I thought gig attire was jeans and a tour T shirt?! From various YouTube videos I've seen of her singing live I have to say I wasn't impressed at all. Mediocre voice, dodging high notes. I'm obviously a minority here as there's people willing to sell a kidney to just get a code to be in with a chance of getting a ticket.

I saw Pink in Hyde park a few weeks ago where she was singing live, doing incredible acts, dancing, acrobats etc and it was incredible. I'm not trying to compare, but I just find Taylor so average!

Can anyone tell me why there's all of this hype. I'm fully aware my username is rather fitting.

(I'll get my coat..)

All too well (10 min version) is also a great one to listen to. She tells a full story and captures what it is like to be dumped by someone you were in love with.

nokidshere · 15/07/2023 15:39

No I wasn't around. I'm in my 20s.

Google beatlemania Australia 1964 on YouTube, or their return to Heathrow 1964. I'm pretty sure you will find lots of clips for major stars over the years but beatlemania was mind boggling

This x 1,000,000

Im in Berlin now ready to see them tomorrow night. And I’m going to Paris next weekend to see them again 💪🏻💪🏻 Fuck Taylor Swift when you can see actual talent and decent music 🤣🤣🤣 The obsession with her on here is mental.

HIER KOMMT DIE SONNE 🔥🔥🔥

“Fuck Taylor Swift”? Think you need to grow up a bit there…

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 15/07/2023 15:41

I'm not a fan especially, but I've got an 11 year old who is, and so I'll do the best I can to get her tickets. We went to see Harry last year, and I didn't "get it" beforehand, but after just wow! I guess she's the female equivalent of him so if we do get tickets (everything crossed) im sure I'll be converted.

@SayHi can you link to the recording where Taylor approves being called a bitch in the Kanye song? I don’t think you can.

She knew about the line about sex with her. That was in the recording. But the calling her a bitch?

Even Kim and kanye said Taylor wasn't told about the bitch line. Having her naked in the music video (obviously edited and not actually her naked) is vile, as is the footage from his concert of him getting thousands of mostly men to chant "fuck taylor swift". How anyone is defending him is so bloody bizarre.

Have you read One Two Three Four by Craig brown? The details about how mad the Beatles lives got are mind blowing. I don’t know how they all stayed so sane (well alright John went a bit funny).
mad reactions to pop stars aren’t new.

@SquashPenguin Rammstein is just noise to me, and I find the people who are into music that sounds like "just noise" are generally the most snobbish about other genres.

I don't have any trouble respecting that others enjoy their sound though!

Ah well nothing like jumping to conclusions is there. Yes metal (and specifically Industrial) is my favourite genre, but I listen to just about everything bar rap/ grime/ garage. I love country music. But please, do go on about metalheads being ‘snobs’. Not everyone has to fall at the feet of Taylor Swift 🤣🤣🤣

YourNextJobCouldBeInCyber · 15/07/2023 15:43

Well it isn’t a ridiculous comment, actually! It’s how you come across to me.

You have posted on here saying you don’t understand the hype, when it’s very simple to understand why people get excited about things they love. The only reason I can see for not understanding this is if you don’t know what it is like to be passionate about something.

Its totally fine to not be in to an artist, I’m not big into TS personally, but you surely can understand why people are excited, you’ve just come on here to try and bring other people down. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lmao the same rammstein thousands have been calling to have their shows cancelled amid the numerous sexual assault allegations? Sounds like a great band to be stoked about seeing.

SquashPenguin · 15/07/2023 15:44

@YerAWizardHarry That the most ‘grown up’ response you could come up with is it? 🤣🤣🤣

aSofaNearYou · 15/07/2023 15:44

@SquashPenguin I mean, your comment, more than any other on this thread, was very snobby, and you were talking about metal at the time. If the shoe fits...

How is what I said immature? 🤔 I don’t particularly like the music you’re referring to but when never say “fuck them” because I’m mature enough to realise we all have different tastes and likes..

I plucked out one album of hers (first one I came across while scrolling Grammy Awards)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evermore_(Taylor_Swift_album)#Track_listing

She had five songwriters with her on that album, and only one song out of fifteen she wrote herself ("No Body no Crime").

From Freddie Mecury to Taylor Swiff, It's a shocking indictment of music today that such a derivative artist, nice pleasant girl that she is, is deemed among the best of the current acts today.

That’s one of the ones she wrote in lockdown...

Jack Antonoff is her producer, there’s footage of them writing on other albums, it’s her writing a song and him helping with the odd word. He does change her acoustically written songs into more produced pop sounds as well.

Aaron Dresner from the National has written with her a fair bit, he’s given interviews about sending her fragments and her sending him back a full song hours later - but he’s not some background hit song maker, just the main singer and songwriter from his band.

The Justin vernon one is a collaboration with Bon Iver, so again a songwriter in that he writes for Bon Iver.

and William Bowery is her (ex) boyfriend an actor.

It’s not a songwriting ‘team’ like for instance Beyoncé where songs are given to her and she changes bits.

She does write songs, and did speak now entirely alone because it’s often said that she doesn’t really write... never by anyone who’s worked with her though.

KVick · 15/07/2023 15:51

For a while now, I think there emerges every generation a few entertainers/singers/musicians whose fanbase is devoted to the point of hysteria. If you look at old clips of the Beatles or Elvis for example, when the camera scans the crowd, you see throngs of screaming, crying, fainting teenagers. When the Beatles came to the U.S., the reception was unprecedented.

Fans did the whole screaming, fainting thing for Michael Jackson in his heyday. Same holds true for those boy-bands of the 90’s like New Kids on the Block, NSYNC, Boys to Men, Back Street Boys and so on. And what about Justine Beiber, Harry Styles….? I think they're kind of mediocre…but to each his own. Taylor Swift - like Lady Gaga before her, is also a songwriter…. so it's not just about being a vocalist with snazzy dance moves.

The difference now might be the devoted fans aren’t just teenage girls as they were in the past but a bit more of a larger mix – though as usual pre-teen/teen girls are leading the charge…. But that’s becasue the marketing to this group is very deliberate. So for this generation the performers that are seen by their devoted fanbase as essentially demigods are Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Rhianna and a few others.

Though K-Pop (Korean Pop) groups – particularly BTS – are bigger in terms of fanbase than all these others COMBINED!!

So if you don't like something and vocalise that, you're bringing people down?

Noted.

So she sat at the piano like Freddie Mercury and came up with a song like he did with Bohemian Rhapsody?

Do me a favour.

Yep. She sits down with her guitar and comes up with her songs.

DeeCee77 · 15/07/2023 15:56

Yeah "F them" is a tad strong, she's a nice girl and she (aided by her team of songwriters) does cater to that particular female demographic. My younger sister is trying to get tickets for Dublin so I've seen first hand the demand for the lass.

Good pop artist, very pleasant, plays acoustic to a decent level, overall probably C level in popular music history.

What an odd comment coming from someone who overuses emoji’s in an attempt to look clever.

StopBeingASquare · 15/07/2023 16:01

@LemonsOnTheMelons so not only do you call people out for 'attempting to be funny' (which I wasn't..) you're now calling out a poster for using emojis.

Do you have anything else up your sleeve or to you just have to resort to picking peoples replies apart to try to get your point across?

This reminds me of the “Game of Thrones” hype - people posting on social media “pleased to say I’ve never seen a single episode”. Why do people do this? If you don’t “get” something that literally millions of others enjoy, just get on with your life. Simple.

Me - I love her music, her USA leg of this tour is scoring 10/10 on music circuit charts, she sings 40 songs in 3 hours and has only ever cancelled one show and that was for political reasons.

By the time I see her I’ll be almost 60 - I’ve got my outfit planned - sequins, fringes and cowboy boots - and to quote Taylor it’ll be “weird but fucking beautiful” !!

We get one life - live it

Beezknees · 15/07/2023 16:05

She's not my cup of tea. Her music is boring to me, it's all very teenage angst and she's not a strong vocalist or dancer, nor has any real charisma onstage to make up for it IN MY OPINION.

Props to her for writing her own songs though and I can understand why she appeals to young girls.

Just googled one of the catchy so I like of hers

Two others songwriters, including the genius that is Max Martin.

It's a farce she's in rolling stone's 100 greatest songwriters (especially given those who aint in it).

My husband and daughters are going. We did the whole preorder codes, three laptops and battling for good tickets stuff because my daughters (and DH) are really big fans. Taylor songs are always on in our house and my daughters have been discussing what they'll be wearing too. And why not? Why is making something fun something to be sneered at? I would have gone to the same effort for Queen if it had been a similar thing back then.

DeeCee77 · 15/07/2023 16:11

Christ almighty, he's also responsible for two of her biggest hits

Move that C grade I gave her to a D.

The Pink reference made me laugh out loud.

I was waiting for you to tell us you only like opera singers who have undergone years of training at European conservatoires or you can only accept the purity of folk music from some remote tribal people who are untouched by the corporate hand of the Western music industry but, actually, you just like another very slightly different but adjacent flavour of 21st century mainstream American female vocal pop star.

Pink?!

Taylor Swift has done nothing wrong. She makes catchy pop music that lots of people love. That's her "secret".
