To think Rupert Murdoch should burn in the fires of hell

Honestly, he’s evil. The Sun & all his press is the absolute worst of the worst.

The mostly fabricated story about Huw Edwards was likely timed to cover up tory scandal, bring down the bbc.

Boris Johnson STILL has defied a court order & not handed in his phone. This should be the main headline- not destroying a man for his sexual preferences (which weren’t deemed illegal activity anyway)

Murdoch is absolute scum. The most morally empty vile arsehole.

I don't read the Press or newspapers in any form and never have. Am I immune to Murdoch?
I suggest others do the same

I am the same, but no, we are not immune, sadly.

RoyalImpatience · 13/07/2023 09:34

If huw hadn't indulged in any inappropriate behaviour as the face of the bbc then there would have been nothing to report

I wonder how many "faces of" various newspapers have engaged in similar behaviour?

Laughingstock1991 · 13/07/2023 10:16

@VeniVidiWeeWee what evidence do you want? A photo of Murdoch standing next to the Hillsborough headline. As the Led by donkeys film about him shows, he had close editorial control of the Sun. 96 people lost their lives and it was a huge disaster - he was in control of the paper - what else is there to say? He had to make a formal apology and it also went to the press complaints committee too. It was his fault. He made the decisions. It’s his paper and his narrative.

Oh god please, I don’t want more debate about Huw. Murdoch & his scummy press still shouldn’t have destroyed yet another person.

So you want to make statements but not be challenged on them?

How does that make you any different to Murdoch?

You are part of the problem, OP.

Fightyouforthatpie · 13/07/2023 10:23

I know "succession" was fiction but Brian Cox (and the writers) did a brilliant job of depicting the ability of an all-powerful dictator like Murdoch to claim they don't interfere in editorial stuff whilst making it abundantly clear what they want and ensuring people who don't go along with it get fired.
Murdoch knew full well what he was doing over Hillsborough, as well as phone hacking, just to take two filthy examples from many. People trying to make a moral equivalence between the BBC and the Murdoch empire are being very silly indeed. If the "free press" is so wonderful at reporting in the public interest, why didn't they report on Savile since apparently everyone in the media know he was a wrong 'un. Oh, hang on, he was a mate of Thatchers.

@Coolhwip REALLY? Honestly some of the comments people make on these threads are batshit. I can’t even be arsed to respond to your post as you clearly haven’t RTFT

I have read your thread, and I stand by what I said, you’re a hypocrite.

The hacking of Milly Dowler's phone should have finished Murdoch, but nothing happened.
He has way too much power in this country. Nobody gets elected without crawling up his backside. The man is evil.

MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff · 13/07/2023 10:36

'I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure'

That's quote always reminds me of evil old Rupert.

Yeah, this isn't remotely in question. Obviously people can have whatever views they want on him and his conduct personally, but the level of editorial control is not different strokes for different folks territory.

What I don’t understand is why no charges were made considering it’s illegal to have naked pictures if those under 18 as well as paying for sex to those under 18

And was it really a distraction for Boris when the initial story broke over the weekend? Are people suggesting that Boris and the Sun worked together with this?

But I also don’t understand why the parents didn’t go to the police in the first place, instead of going to the BBC a couple of months ago.

To think Rupert Murdoch should burn in the fires of hell
WhatWhereWho · 13/07/2023 10:56

AbraKedavra · 12/07/2023 21:22

So what? I'm not defending Boris, I just cba to care. What he did or didn't is quite irrelevant now, and has zero impact on the country or any state of affairs.

It's not even a crime against humanity, in which case there is always a point in prosecuting, as we want to balance out society. We know Boris is contemptuous of the law, this whole palaver is just to determine exactly how contemptuous. Who cares? What difference does it make?

The point is you did not know that and still do not seem to. You said it was about something else. You should at least know the facts of what you have an opinion on. The inquiry is about the government response to and handling of Covid. Finding out what happened and why. Johnson, and others, should be expected to follow the rules and have been sabotaging it from the start.

And what on earth are you talking about crimes against humanity? You come across like you do not anything about even the basics of what you are talking about.

Yes! And Leveson 2 was just quietly shelved by this government. Unbelievable!

StormShadow · 13/07/2023 10:57

No. That wouldn't be necessary.

Anonymouseposter · 13/07/2023 10:58

Whatever the rights and wrongs regarding Huw Edwards YANBU regarding Murdoch He wants to discredit the BBC and control the media, and also to cover up what it suits him to cover up.

beguilingeyes · 13/07/2023 12:36

I had to look up a list of the companies he owns for a work thing once and it's truly terrifying how much global media he owns. TV,.radio, newspapers.

RoyalImpatience · 13/07/2023 13:05

I'm just wondering who anyone wonders who has ever controlled the media.

sleepwouldbenice · 13/07/2023 13:30

Just to add to this from a different angle
Anyone watched the film "Bombshell"

Because it didn't happen. The Sun has now backtracked and said 'Oops, we didn't mean to imply that anything illegal had happened' when they absolutely did and the damage is already done.

Laughingstock1991 · 12/07/2023 22:17

@BloodyHellKen As for Murdoch being evil. Few people are evil OP. I think what you mean is that you don't like him and disagree with him which is entirely different

Murdoch blamed the victims of Hillsborough. The Sun wrote vile lies about what happened on a day when nearly 100 people died. He is evil.

His reporters hacked a murdered girls phone. Making her parents (and the police investigation) have false hope that she was still alive.
Evil enough for you?

Abhannmor · 13/07/2023 15:52

The late playwright Dennis Potter called his cancer Rupert which is a bit extreme . Cancer can often be cured nowadays .

Florenz · 13/07/2023 17:04

Why isn't there a left-wing paper like the Sun?

Laughingstock1991 · 13/07/2023 17:17

@Florenz there kind of is if you mean tabloids- the Daily mirror. It’s just not owned by a megalomaniac who is a threat to democracy.
