…and your proof he is a drug addict is ????

It’s been well documented since the start that the young man concerned was using the money to fund his significant drug habit.

Flickersy · 12/07/2023 19:00

I think everyone needs to bear in mind that NONE of us know the truth of this yet.

No-one can say with any certainty that Huw, the alleged victim, or the complaints are this that or the other.

So it might be best for now to keep quiet and let the police do their job.

tttigress · 12/07/2023 19:00

What a hypocrite, the guy has been on Songs of Praise numerous times showing off his public image (which we are paying for via the licence fee).

While the private life is completely different.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 12/07/2023 19:01

Bread and Circuses, innit

Honestly all this talk about "playing the mental health card" is disgusting. You don't have to condone his behaviour to to appreciate that suddenly being exposed to this level of public scrutiny and vitriol will take a terrible toll on your mental health. Especially for someone who already has well documented struggles. I think everyone remembers what happened to Caroline Flack.

Oh come off it. Don’t be so naive. It’s a cynical PR strategy aimed at getting sympathetic coverage for Edwards and positioning him as victim rather than perpetrator.

JustDanceAddict · 12/07/2023 19:01

Loads of people have MH issues but they’re not perverts. Imho the fact he’s in hospital now is because he’s been caught and has had a breakdown.
But I’m very shocked that this has happened to a well respected news anchor

The young person themselves never reported it and has informed through her lawyer that it's not true.

Perhaps they're being given more money to deny it. As the mother said, how can they afford a lawyer?

Countdown2023 · 12/07/2023 19:01

If it had been a teacher/doctor there would be total outrage. But a BBC presenter it is okay for them to behave in such a manner.

KittytheHare · 12/07/2023 19:01

Middle aged, wealthy white men are virtually untouchable. He has children - he knows exactly what the maturity level of a 17 yo is. It’s sickening - and his wife doing to classic Tory wife thing is awful too. Those poor vulnerable young people and his five children are whom I feel desperately sorry for.

Lentilweaver · 12/07/2023 19:02

His poor wife. And poor young person plus his parents.

These entitled men have no self-control. Then their families have to bravely stand by them. Ugh. I dont want to hear "But it's legal" again. Maybe. But deeply sleazy and immoral.

Finally a sensible post.

areyouhavinglaugh · 12/07/2023 19:02

I always thought he was gay anyway, didn't even know he was married with kids!!

Butchyrestingface · 12/07/2023 19:02

Soontobe60 · 12/07/2023 18:57

It can also mean he’s voluntarily checked himself into a private clinic,

I assumed it meant he was in The Priory.

Snapdrag0n555 · 12/07/2023 19:02

What teenagers?

You mean the adult who made a statement via lawyers saying it was a load of rubbish which has now been corroborated by the police.

TrustPenguins · 12/07/2023 19:03

ArcticSkewer · 12/07/2023 18:09

Having just read his wife's statement and the police report of no criminal activity, it's pretty disgusting that he has ended up in hospital in patient treatment just to stop us all talking about George Osborne during his wedding weekend.

This.

Also stopped us talking about Boris Johnson who hasn't handed over his WhatsApp messages like he should have. The High Court ruler he had to do so the end of Monday - he hasn't. Funny this isn't in the news though huh...?

watermeloncougar · 12/07/2023 19:03

*In my opinion he's been incredibly stupid and sleazy yes- but if no crime has been committed then this is mainly an issue between mrs edwards and himself- I wouldn't be suprised if he was being blackmailed and didn't play ball .

I'm not sure the reaction would be quite the same if it was females he was trying to get with and get pictures from .*

Why are people still assuming the young person wasn't a female? Honestly, on one of the threads that got deleted people were in a lather about Grindr and making all sorts of assumptions.

I thought the latest indications were that it was girls he messaged. Not that it makes any difference, it's all sleazy- but it makes you wonder why people make assumptions

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 12/07/2023 19:03

It hasn't happened TO him, @JustDanceAddict, he created the situation.

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 12/07/2023 19:03

Just looked on the Daily Mail website and funnily enough all of the comments are defending him. Different to how Caroline Flack and Phillip Schofield were torn apart. No wonder society is fucked, when as long as an activity isn't 'illegal' it's fair game. The future is bleak.

thelionthewitchtheaudacityofTHISbitch · 12/07/2023 19:03

Thesenderofthiscard · 12/07/2023 18:12

Oh, feck off with the MH issues… he’s an abuser, he could have gone to any adult site and seen what he wanted but there’s no power trip for him doing that. Is there??

this is totally how I feel. I thought that any under 18 sending explicit images that was a crime. Really not understanding the police statement right now. But what a statement from the wife. Talk about cover up at all costs. JFC.

Agreed. His severe depression was real and known. He's probably a risk to himself at the moment.

MissPop · 12/07/2023 19:04

Aww poor middle aged, rich, white man. Got caught with his pants down (I was unfortunate enough to be sent that photo). Now he’s very sad. 😢 🎻

I imagine for such a high profile case they wouldn't even be charging they would be fighting to represent for headline wealth

tttigress · 12/07/2023 19:05

It has to be remembered, all sorts of abuse in the work place "isn't technically illegal"

But Mumsnet-ers are (rightly) up in arms if they see it in their work place.

Ridemeginger · 12/07/2023 19:05

Everyone going on about Osborne, Johnson et al. It is actually possible to hold several thoughts in your head at one time, and feel that both they and Edwards are sleezy and need to be held to account. The BBC is as much part of the establishment as the politicians - and we, the public, at least get to have some decision making input into the politicians, which we can't say for the BBC that we pay for. The BBC has been leading with this story as well as the other networks, so they are not absolved from culpability for failing to speak about the "real" issues.
