I'm actually shocked.

The BBC staffers alleging inappropriate messages smacks of jumping on the bandwagon. They didn't come forward before. There's 3 of them (2 employed, one left). Apparently the messages comment on their appearance but until we see these messages we don't know for sure. People can interpret messages differently and comments on someone's appearance can vary from E.g. "you look hot in that dress" to "You're looking well".

As another pp said the whole point of the MeToo movement was women, or men, would use the bandwagon to speak out

It’s not unusual for people to feel more worried about backlash if they are the first but less so if they are not

Rhondaa · 13/07/2023 07:36

-Given what the police have said, the issue is not whether it is illegal to do that, but whether he did that at all. It's looking as if he didn't.'

If that were the case then in the long winded poor us statement Mrs Edwards would surely have slipped in 'he of course denies all allegations'. But they don't say that do they.

StefanosHill · 13/07/2023 07:37

Willyoujustbequiet · 13/07/2023 07:11

Yes. From HE or his wife via the statement. He said it whilst being interviewed on Sky news last night.

He went on to say that as there has been no denial the Director General wants an investigation.

Ok thanks, I think this is worth mentioning too

MrsPapadopolis · 13/07/2023 07:38

Allelbowsandtoes · 13/07/2023 07:35

For normal people that might be the case but the man's a rich celebrity in the middle of a national scandal, he's probably an informal patient in a nice, quiet private hospital somewhere.

And you have worked in Mental Health for how long??

lovescats3 · 13/07/2023 07:39

All very convenient timing for Johnson not giving early WhatsApp messages to the inquiry and for the Osbourne wedding email

This! Have we learnt nothing. Junior staff of course would be worried about speaking out about their big star who earns 450k (paid for by us, the licence payers)

If more come forward then good. If the man is a lecherous perv then the Sun has done everyone a favour by starting the ball rolling.

Efacsen · 13/07/2023 07:41

Turtletumy · 13/07/2023 07:35

This, his wife has confirmed it is him, but not that he has done anything wrong.
The police are not investigating.
The Sun, having destroyed yet another life, has wound back in saying they have never accused him of criminal activity and that they are not releasing anything else.
So at the moment this is all hearsay and speculation.
Meanwhile, George Osbourne and Johnson not complying with the WhatsApp messages have been buried under salacious gossip.

Yes The Sun is back-pedalling on their story which is apparently unusual for them - they usually 'double down' on these type of stories

No other media outlet has been able to corroborate any of the Sun's story

All the information has has come from anonymous sources

The are virtually no actual facts ATM but mountains of speculation

Exploiting children is not a ‘mental health’ episode.

The power is why they do it. That’s the thrill.

Its not a lack of judgment. It’s planned.

I'm not sure buying material through Only Fans counts as exploiting children. Pretty sure that children aren't supposed to be on there.

Fififafa · 13/07/2023 07:44

Bellajac · 13/07/2023 07:13

And despite his wife saying that he is ill and making a plea for privacy there is even someone on here who thinks it's made up and he's not even in hospital.

Nothing is enough for some people who seem to want a public flogging.

Two things can be true simultaneously. One that he has mental health issues and two that Huw Edwards is a dirty old pervert who has indeed committed the acts he’s been accused of.

I am sure they are jumping on the bandwagon as they needed that bandwagon as it would have been career suicide to raise it at the time. You can just imagine some florid bbc exec. „Come on Hugh, I know young x is a bit of hot stuff but you know people get their knickers in a twist these days about this kind of stuff „

We don't know what state he's in. I know posters love to assume mental health isn't real and it's all an excuse but I've known people be catatonic and unable to speak from nervous breakdowns. It's quite possible that he disappeared to try something stupid and his wife hasn't spoken to him about it since he ended up in hospital.

Yes, yes, posters will pile on about the priory being a paid service so therefore it's not real. Ultimately places like the priory won't admit someone who is healthy and doesn't need help. They have real doctors working there who are trained to identify medical illnesses, they won't waste their time with a faker. If we had loads of cash wouldn't we also choose private care above our crumbling and overstretched NHS?

On a more general point it's incredibly frustrating to see Mumsnet discuss this and other famous high profile cases with such a black and white attitude. So many people here seem incapable of comprehending the idea that people can hold two viewpoints at the same time. It is entirely possible to believe Huw is having a serious mental health episode whilst also holding the belief that what he did was wrong. People seem to think that if you believe he's in hospital for genuine reasons then you must approve of his behaviour which is a very strange way to interpret beliefs.

They say Hitler was mentally unwell. I guess it was depression too. He is misunderstood.

Oh FFS. Just stop.

Given that the police are clear they have found nothing criminal, the supposed victim denies it, and the Sun has produced no evidence and is back-pedalling spectacularly, I wouldn't like to make any assumptions about his guilt.

Bansheed · 13/07/2023 07:53

News shocker: Another dirty, old man.

Depressing, entitled sexual behaviour. Probably not criminal, but just makes me feel so jaded about men and humanity.

I genuinely think that most women don't understand a 1/4 of it. It just feels so alien and we prefer to pretend it isn't as dark that it really, genuinely is.

No answers here, just sad confusion. No wonder nothing changes.

Oh - I absolutely agree that these two should be called to task - almost every in the present government should still be being investigated regarding PPE etc - and I don't think that ANY party is free of corruption.

There are a few honest, hardworking MPs who are desperately trying to protect the NHS, protect women and children, fight corruption in govt and business - but they are struggling against a tidal wave of corruption and self-interest.

I never thought that I would see this country in the state it is in - but Johnson and his cabal broke politics entirely in this country. Their continued defiance of authority has shown just how weak our system is.

However, their being appalling doesn't make other people's behaviour less so.

Sadly, I have absolutely no faith in the police nowadays.

At one time if they had said, "Nothing untoward" I would have believed them. Nowadays I just think "Really? Or is this another cover-up?" I don't think I'm the only person with no confidence in them.

It's made up, like a lot of the huff on this thread. Nobody knows what really happened. Huw's wife said he will respond to allegations when he's well neighbours.

But that is not good enough for some. They want to keep tearing into Huw. What he has allegedly done is wrong and awful, but I would still rather spend an hour in his company than some of the slavering posters on this thread. Ugh.

IClaudine · 13/07/2023 08:01

Neighbours? Enough!

watermeloncougar · 13/07/2023 08:02

Right wing tabloid press publish salacious story without any evidence. Police confirm no crime has taken place. Meanwhile, our corrupt government manage to avoid disclosing the full whatsapp messages about their partying during lockdown when Joe Bloggs wasn't even allowed to visit his dying mother in hospital.

That's the real shocker here.

Exactly - not criminal perhaps, but certainly unethical and inappropriate.

Given that there are now 6 other sources for the allegations and there was no denial in the statement I wouldn't be presuming innocence either.

It seems to me a thorough investigation by the BBC of all the allegations is the only way forward.
