Who isn't up to no good in the bbc nowadays? The organisation needs a complete overhaul.

billysboy · 13/07/2023 06:33

Nice of him to leave to his wife to sort out

Noicant · 13/07/2023 06:37

Various young people seem to have come forward to complain about his behaviour. It reminds me of the time when I was depressed for about a decade and I started paying for explicit pictures of teenagers…. Oh wait no I didn’t.

Both things can be true, that he suffers from poor mental health and that he’s a giant fucking letch. God I feel for his wife and kids. Him, not so much. I wonder if there would have been the same reaction if he had been targeting girls. I’d feel nothing but disgust if this was my husband or father or any man I know really.

He's very ill. He doesn't have a choice.

Indeed. Are there any rich, powerful women who have been clinically depressed and decided to fix it by asking barely adult teens for nude pics? I can bet if they did, there wouldn't be all this talk about it being legal to do this, and all this sympathy.

tara66 · 13/07/2023 06:43

They say Hitler was mentally unwell. I guess it was depression too. He is misunderstood.

VisionsOfSplendour · 13/07/2023 06:49

TommyNever · 13/07/2023 04:18

Not at all surprised that my call on this was the right one all along: "It's none of my business".

But convincing Mumsnet telly addicts that tabloid-fabricated "scandals" are not the most important thing on Earth is a thankless task indeed. 😆

Eh?

I can't imagine that anyone apart from the people directly involved think this is the most important thing in the world

You sound oddly self important

Rubbish! He hasn’t commited any offence. It’s no different to him reaching to the top shelf in a newsagents.

I wonder how many magazines one would get for £35k?

InstantGratificationDarkPlaygroundOfMN · 13/07/2023 06:54

May 19th: Philip Schofield resigns after admitting shagging a much younger colleague then lying about it.
A parent contacts the Beeb about one of their own also conducting themselves in an unwise but not illegal manner.

Both viewpoints from the younger people are never heard, lawyered up, nothing to see here.

Both presenters have mental issues as a result from the brouhaha/all parties have a right to privacy.
ITV advertisers - Phil no longer deemed wholesome, Goodbye Phil.
Many think he accepted a payout, we'll never know.
BBC licence payers - Huw has not resigned.

In the past, Les Grantham was killed off in his soap after masturbating via webcam (in real life he attempted suicide three times allegedly), Jason Manford stepped down from The One Show after allegedly sexting, Frank Bough/Angus Deayton both dismissed in cocaine/prostitute scandals, Richard Bacon sacked for cocaine use... if you bring the corporation into disrepute, you step down. Twas always the case.

Caramelatt · 13/07/2023 00:31

Children?

A person working on onlyfan is supposed to be over 18. That 17 year old child lied about his age on the website. So if the service was exchanged, did he know he was dealing with a child? 17 year old can look over 18.

There's no evidence that it was OF - or that anyone has lied about their age. The payments alleged don't suggest OF. It's all conjecture.

Given what the police have said, the issue is not whether it is illegal to do that, but whether he did that at all. It's looking as if he didn't.

is he? You his doctor? Or is he in a complete panic because he’s been caught out and gone into hiding?

Adam Boulton on Sky said there has been no denial at all of any of the allegations.

What from HE?

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 13/07/2023 07:07

@Caramelatt can I ask where your evidence is that the young person was on only fans?

Unclecornelius · 13/07/2023 07:08

I do think media lawyers didn’t get this quite right.
If Huw Edwards had come forward immediately and apologised the speculation wouldn’t have happened.
It really is a kind of disgusting game now where the tabloids set up clues for the public who desperately search for the answer regardless of the chaos and harm created around what is a sleazy situation that could and should have been dealt with by the bbc straight away.

Inkanta · 13/07/2023 07:10

Did the police manage to speak to Huw about events or was he too ill.

Willyoujustbequiet · 13/07/2023 07:11

StefanosHill · 13/07/2023 07:03

What from HE?

Yes. From HE or his wife via the statement. He said it whilst being interviewed on Sky news last night.

He went on to say that as there has been no denial the Director General wants an investigation.

Bellajac · 13/07/2023 07:13

And despite his wife saying that he is ill and making a plea for privacy there is even someone on here who thinks it's made up and he's not even in hospital.

Nothing is enough for some people who seem to want a public flogging.

Inkanta · 13/07/2023 07:10

I don't think they did as I understand it South Wales police spoke to the young person and the yp's mother and step-father [?wheres his father} and shared that information with the Met and it was decided on that basis that no crime had been committed for them to investigate

I might be wrong - there is very little in the way of actual facts in this whole matter

He has a known history of serious depression. His wife is very well respected, and I have no reason to believe she is lying.

You, on the other hand, seem somewhat invested and clearly don't want your fun spoilt by any inconvenient genuine illness.

storminamooncup · 13/07/2023 07:33

The BBC staffers alleging inappropriate messages smacks of jumping on the bandwagon. They didn't come forward before. There's 3 of them (2 employed, one left). Apparently the messages comment on their appearance but until we see these messages we don't know for sure. People can interpret messages differently and comments on someone's appearance can vary from E.g. "you look hot in that dress" to "You're looking well".

Soooomaninamechanges · 12/07/2023 18:24

Inpatient care more than likely means a section 2, which means he has probably tried to kill himself.

He's made a phenomenal fuck up, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone

For normal people that might be the case but the man's a rich celebrity in the middle of a national scandal, he's probably an informal patient in a nice, quiet private hospital somewhere.

Turtletumy · 13/07/2023 07:35

HappiDaze · 12/07/2023 18:27

No one knows yet if the allegations are actually true

This, his wife has confirmed it is him, but not that he has done anything wrong.
The police are not investigating.
The Sun, having destroyed yet another life, has wound back in saying they have never accused him of criminal activity and that they are not releasing anything else.
So at the moment this is all hearsay and speculation.
Meanwhile, George Osbourne and Johnson not complying with the WhatsApp messages have been buried under salacious gossip.
