One victim. There were 3 other people earlier and now apparently tonight a further 3

Irrelevant to the point I made.

I wondered where all the people who fell over themselves to disparage the victims, as they do every single time allegations relating to women or children arise, would be. Needn’t have bothered, they’re right here. Downplaying, minimising, casting aspersions on the victims and their families, showing an admirable and previously unheard of dedication to a legal maxim that has no relevance here…..amazing.

Each of these people is the reason women and children don’t come foreword. They are disgusting.

I don’t know that this is a helpful comparison tbh.

Krupkrups · 12/07/2023 23:25

Seedy, but not illegal behaviour, 700 + comments on here, by law of averages a fair few of your partners must have an only fans account and (currently) this is absolutely no different.

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 12/07/2023 23:25

Tldr - but just need to say “out loud” how much I detest The Sun and Rupert Murdoch.

Victims? Women and children?

There's been a few "I don't cares" and "does this really need to be aired out, and "I don't think he's faking mental illness".

This has nothing to do with why 'women and children' don't come forward for abuse

You brought up the fact that 'the' victim has dismissed the claims but omitted that there is not just one person saying it. As it stands there are 6 other sources of allegations (Sky news tonight)

Entirely relevant as it goes to the weight of the evidence

The original story was one which has brought the ridiculous post about women and children.

The employees are a separate argument.

mids2019 · 12/07/2023 23:30

I think there is definitely a question of the Sun's motives by a number of pundits on BBC and I get the impression a number of senior BBC figures are quite supportive of Huw given his current mental state. His hasn't resigned so it will be interesting to her the results of the internal investigation.

Even if a resignation is forced I think there may be mixed feelings amongst a number of BBC establishment figures.

Thatsridiculous · 12/07/2023 23:30

Standingchair1 · 12/07/2023 23:19

His latest mental health episode started suddenly when he got caught.

This is unkind no matter what your view is, or who you support.

Situations can prompt mental health crisis. HE is known to have MH issues and has spoken of these in the past.

Even those who are perpetrators can have MH crisis (I am not saying that HE is) - those who are involved in the justice system or who have accusations made against them can legitimately be mentally unwell.

Being mentally unwell is not unique to people who have good morals or who have not committed offences.

Not if they are all spurious.

TizerorFizz · 12/07/2023 23:34

@Standingchair1 Well is that surprising? Episodes of poor mental health are obviously triggered by adversity.

The police don’t prosecute anyone. They gather evidence and give it to the CPS for a decision to prosecute or not. In this case the police are satisfied that there’s no evidence to suggest anything criminal took place. As indeed the South Wales Police did back in April.

The BBC did respond to the parents’ initial complaint. They emailed and phoned. The parents did not respond. The parents then went to The Sun. What a surprise. That BBC hating Murdoch owned rag. The BBC haters then united in a tirade against the BBC stating Huw Edwards was spending “their” money, the BBC was 100% inept and that this was another Savile case. Also since when was his employment contract issued by the public? It is for his employer to investigate: and they are.

As for the bizarre poster who says, pages ago, that 1:4 cases in mags courts are for licence fee evasion! Words fail me.

You do understand that women aren't morally culpable for whatever their partners might or might not be doing?

Yes but it's clearly moved on considerably so omitting key information isn't helpful.

Loads of people jumping on the 'compo' bandwagon, it seems.

We shall just have to wait until they are investigated/deemed worth investigating/proven etc

Naked images of 17 year olds are illegal. You have a strange idea of normal.

Calliecaterpillar · 12/07/2023 23:39

People are conflating a lack of evidence proving criminality with a lack of evidence entirely

The evidence has not met the standards it needs to to be investigated by the police. And even if it did, clearly there's nothing that could be used for a conviction

What has been evidenced quite clearly is a major public figure who exerts a massive power imbalance in his communications with young people and possibly junior colleagues and had the arrogance to believe he would never be held accountable or exposed for being at best possible scenario, a massive dick. As the week goes on I'm sure we'll either see a rush of allegations or it entirely cease. Now he's not coping particularly good, compounded by suffering from depression with being exposed. I don't wish his MH crisis upon him, and hope he gets well enough to respond to the revelation to the that at best, he's been a massive dick and risked his career, mental health and family's wellbeing for sexual kicks

Are you actually serious? We should be kind to those that harm children? What planet are you on?

So. Can we talk about Johnson's WhatsApp messages and George Osborne's email now?

Not to mention Boris Johnson putting a 30 year old (who looks strikingly like him) with 18 months work experience in the house of Lords

Fififafa · 12/07/2023 23:41

Thesenderofthiscard · 12/07/2023 18:12

Oh, feck off with the MH issues… he’s an abuser, he could have gone to any adult site and seen what he wanted but there’s no power trip for him doing that. Is there??

This! I see the MH issues are being used as some sort of defence and quite frankly I find that disgusting. People with MH difficulties have enough stigma without what Huw did being linked to it. He needs to own up to what he did

Why should he own up if he's innocent, you don't know the facts like any of us. Innocent until proven guilty.

I hardly think any of the man's colleagues at the BBC would be interested in compensation. There is a rapidly growing number of extremely serious and unpleasant allegations made against him which require full and proper investigation and there should be no delay in moving forward with this.

Except there’s zero evidence there were any. Two police forces have failed to find any and the alleged subject of the invisible pictures says the allegations are rubbish.

mayorofcasterbridge · 12/07/2023 23:47

This is NOTHING like So-vile!! So much bloody speculation with no evidence upon which to base it. Have none of you ever been wrongly, and publicly, accused? I was many years ago and it was fucking horrendous.

I'm not saying HE has been wrongly or rightly accused. I don't know. None of you know!!! I am simply saying that there are two sides to every story, and I just wish the fucking lynch mob would step back until the actual FACTS are known?!

I am totally shocked that a family man, a highly respected, talented and highly paid presenter, would have put himself in this precarious position. I'm also disappointed (though I probably have no right to be) that someone who was touted as a safe pair of hands, a broadcaster with sufficient gravitas/respect that he was trusted to announce the death of the Queen, the coverage of her funeral, and the Coronation, would have these skeletons in his closet.

It sounds as though his wife is on some level, sympathetic towards his predicament, no matter the personal cost to her and to their children - dear love her.

I wish people would just back the fuck off! The feral hunger for a name to be identified has been assuaged. Let it go!!
