@TheLifeofMe yes almost like there's an agenda, worst thing is people fall for it!

Frankola · 12/07/2023 21:26

@Mulhollandmagoo you are speculating.

If, as rumours suggest, contact was made via a platform like OnlyFans then the user must be 18 and over and sign to say they are. This means that HE would have thought the accuser was 18 or over.

Infact, the accuser now becomes the person who can get into trouble legally, for breaking the terms of OnlyFans and sharing photos when under the age of 18.

Blinky21 · 12/07/2023 21:24

@Willyoujustbequiet you've decided on everyone's behalf it was exploitation that's fine

No. Just following the dictionary definition of it.

A lawyer representing the young person in question, who was not named, told the BBC earlier this week that "nothing inappropriate or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality." The lawyer said the allegations reported in The Sun were "rubbish."

So even the accusers lawyer says it's tosh !

You do know the story has moved on significantly since this article...?

Princessbananahamock · 12/07/2023 21:26

Sorry for his wife ! So sorry for her . Well that’s his career fucked

lljkk · 12/07/2023 21:29

Am I being naive or have I missed a meeting somewhere?

Grinder. is what you're missing. A whole lifestyle. And drugs to make the experience more ... memorable and long-lasting. Drugs is a good point, to complement & enhance, not replace the other alleged activities.

Human beings are just such... monkeys. Honestly. Overgrown chimpanzees we are.

PaperLanterns · 12/07/2023 21:22

Young adult child?

The adult was 20 when the mum went to the papers.

my mother was married and had a child by then. Nobody was calling her a young adult child.

He is a young adult and a child of his mother. Yes you know, 40 years ago or 60 years ago 20 year olds were married with kids and so? They were still young adults and someone else's children. Matured differently than most 20 year olds today due to social and historical differences, don't be obtuse.

The issues began when he was 17. They were discovered when he was 20.

Crikeyalmighty · 12/07/2023 21:31

@SecretCorridor it had crossed my mind too - along with blackmail

Jeanieween · 12/07/2023 21:32

Same week a Tory MPs rape allegation case is coming up after being suspended .One distraction after another ..to keep us from seeing how they are ruining the country and what sleazes they are

What’s this about drugs? Huw’s now a druggie too??

MrsJBaptiste · 12/07/2023 21:34

So now his name is out here (not that it wasn't a few days ago) can we just move on...?
FFS, worse things are happening in the world than a TV presenter sending/receiving a few dick pics 🙄

BestBadger · 12/07/2023 21:34

PriamFarrl · 12/07/2023 18:09

I agree. He was the face of so much of the Queen’s death, funeral and the Kings coronation.

He didn't kill her maj did he? I'm shocked.

PurplePansy05 · 12/07/2023 21:16

The mum went to the police in April and to the BBC in May, read the timeline. What would you have done as a parent of a nearly adult or young adult child addicted to drugs upon discovery of what's been going on?

If I believed the person was under 18 then I would have gone back to the police, written complaint to police, my MP if I felt the police weren’t dealing with it.
I would also have verified the facts first ( clearly they didn’t )
I would not have gone to the Employer!
Why would anyone go to the Employer.
You only go to the Employer if something criminal / inappropriate happened at work between two people…it didn’t.

RugbyMom123 · 12/07/2023 21:36

I will admit I am a bit confused. I thought the schofield conclusion came to oh that’s just homophobia and not an abuse of power, when literally met them at a school and got him a job and worked alongside him in the same organisation.

And then we have this which is apparently not illegal according to police, so also abuse of power category. Yet this one is not organisation based.

It’s confusing. The double think of the nation is hard to keep up with.

My personal opinion is schofield is a proper wrongun and am yet to make my deliberation about Huw - whether he is a predator or whether he just loves only fans and whilst that’s quite a grim sex scandal its not abuse of power or illegal.

Either way I have an awful feeling this is going to play out with him doing something awful, and then everyone swings in their split personality way and goes ‘oh be kind!’.

SecretCorridor · 12/07/2023 21:39

AbsoIutelyLovely · 12/07/2023 21:34

Nothing of this nature has been said anywhere - I asked a question further up and this was a response to a response.

The only mention of drugs has been in relation to the 17/20yo feeding a habit with the money received.

YellowBrickRoadWithPotholes · 12/07/2023 21:39

Criminal or not he’s now been accused by more than one member of BBC staff at acting inappropriately. The BBC itself reported the complaints on the 6pm news on R4. So he’s certainly no saint, not sure why folks are defending him. If the BBC complaints are true, and apparently they’ve been validated by the BBC news team itself, then it’s misconduct in the workplace at the very least. He was way more senior and powerful than the young staffers he targeted. He’s another Schofield it seems. I wonder if he reported on the Schofield storey when it broke? Would be interesting to see that footage. Not interesting enough for me to actually seek it out though.
I hope his family are being supported, and I hope he can find a way forward from this and find the strength to cope with these consequences of his actions.

If your child admits to you they were showing their bits out for money and you confirm the money was trsnsferred, plus you see the photo of the presenter - which is what the mum is saying - what else exactly would you need to verify and how?

How do you know how many times the parents spoke to the police? I don't know, has this been made public? There's no info re MP contact either so we don't know that.

It was absolutely right to go to the employer which hires young people and if it relates to an employee in a position of trust, this is out of the question.

Ladylonglegs · 12/07/2023 21:42

The police didn’t have evidence of a crime. Probably because the person who was 17 when he paid them for sexually explicit images doesn’t want to cooperate.

I really don’t understand people who are okay with a 61 year old trying to find someone in their late teens/early twenties to pay for sexual services. There’s a clear imbalance of power. If he wasn’t a predator, he would have pursued people who were older, more mature adults.

Here's the latest updated news at 20.08

If the story has 'moved on' then it hasn't got very far.

;
https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/no-criminal-offence-bbc-presenter-met-police-says/

You've linked up an article previously that was from yesterday with a headline including the young person's lawyer's comments. It has moved on since with further allegations, Met Police statement regarding original allegations, parents standing by their report and questioning who appointed and paid for their child's lawyer, other presenters' comments, HE being named, I mean, yes, it has moved on.

I don't even try ... just look underneath at the (not-so-cleverly-hidden-these-days) agenda 😶

The police have said no crime has been committed. This is turning into a witch hunt with the Sun starting it.

No, they didn't say that at all. They said there was no "evidence" of criminality.
