@SecretCorridor I do not know because I was not there and unless people own up to what is going on nothing is proven and as I work with the family courts it is balance of probability if needed. I just find the parental perspective very off. This person is an adult now, no contact and has been outed against their will. This kind of behaviour usually funds a habit. The parent's insistence they became addicted because of the money is back to front. People do not suddenly think 'I have too much money- I'll try crack'.

Yeah I find it quite hard to be on the side of “two consenting adults, no big deal” for something that, if the young person were just slightly younger, would have actually been illegal.

The power dynamics thing is interesting - yes, no denying he’s a man with position, prestige and money. But it is, as a PP said, slightly hard to imagine the average young man being awed by a 60 year old newsreader? Also the young men had a huge amount of power over Edwards - leak the pics, leak the story and you’ve wrecked his life. As we have just witnessed.

I think the contacting of young people unsolicited on Instagram is quite creepy, - the messages that have been published to date are actually pretty innocuous- but it’s hard to imagine any perfectly innocent motivation for seeking out that contact in the first place.

But in itself that is really all it is, a bit creepy, not a national scandal.

It's interesting. The female dominated spaced I frequent lean towards him likely being a serial abuser (who targets those in their late teens/early 20s) that's just been exposed. The situation is seen as another man in power behaving unacceptably.

The male dominated spaces see it as a witch hunt against a guy that's done nothing legally wrong, and that it involved consenting adults so it's OK. The threatening of the one guy was acceptable, because that guy was threatening to out him. The meeting up with the other was immoral, but not illegal.

I guess we'll have to wait to see what other accusations are made and proven to determine whether we should we Poor Huw or Eewww Huw. I'm leaning towards the latter, because married 60 year old dudes shouldn't be chasing after people 40 years younger than them...

The police saying no crime has been committed isn't the ringing endorsement one would hope - remember they didn't even investigate when McDonald's staff contacted them about Couzens flashing (providing IIRC credit card details and car reg) 3 days before he murdered Sarah Everard. Sexual misconduct is a gateway to more serious things very often. Hopefully the fact it's come out will mean that fewer vulnerable people are abused and the alleged abuser is prevented from moving on to more serious things and gets the help he needs.

I think we should expect a higher standard than 'not publicly named but everyone in the office knows' or 'not convicted of sex crimes' for people who are the public face (on salaries of 6 figures) of the publicly funded broadcaster.

I think what would be really good would be if we can move from discussing specifics of this one case to the fact that the BBC, paid for by ordinary people, have a serious problem with sexual predators and seem completely unwilling to do anything about it.

It's only when the newspapers get involved that they do anything, when there's always evidence that people have known for ages (e.g. Savile). They do nothing to create a workplace culture where abuse of power is discouraged, seemingly.
