I'm actually shocked.

‘ If the police have decided it’s not criminal then I don’t understand why there is such a furore. ‘

well, indecent images are from 17 years or younger ( age of consent is irrelevant ) put in place to try to prevent grooming.

but if you think there’s nowt wrong with a 61 year old person in a position of power and influence abusing that position to pay money to a child for explicit pics then you do.
I feel it’s worth a ‘furore’.

But he can't have solicited pics of an under 18 year old because that WOULD be a criminal offence wouldn't it?

OMGitsnotgood · 12/07/2023 20:09

But if the photos were of someone under 18 it is a crime

So why are the police saying there is no case to answer?

ThinWomansBrain · 12/07/2023 20:09

Thesenderofthiscard · 12/07/2023 18:18

61 year old married newsreader pays vulnerable 17 year old girl for explicit photographs of herself? There would be a fuss.

if it was in the sun it would be on page three though, with salacious pics of the "victim".

Thatgirl1981 · 12/07/2023 19:54

No we should yell at a man who paid for prostitution useing public funds
1 in 4 people in magistrates are for non payment of bbc fines

Erm are you feeling alright @Thatgirl1981? He is a man who paid for prostitution using his own funds, not public funds..not condoning prostitution in any way but how on earth do you make the leap that the BBC did this??! They are his employer. He is an employee who did this from his own funds! Seriously! Are you suggesting mass redundancy and shutting down the entirety of the BBC because one person did something stupid that wasn't actually illegal in their own time? Bonkers! Just admit you came to pile on because you don't like paying the license fee. That's a separate issue!

Dovetail40 · 12/07/2023 20:11

I thought Huw was gay.
Didnt know he was married to a woman.

Just always assumed he was a gay man.

Livelovebehappy · 12/07/2023 20:11

Namechangey23 · 12/07/2023 19:58

Yep I agree @OMGitsnotgood and whoever you quoted. It's also documented that Huw Edwards apparently liked on twitter a post which was supporting the NHS but also was in support of labour. He said afterwards he just wanted to support NHS but didn't realise it was a labour tweet...so the Tories have been gunning for him. Guess they managed to find some kind of a skeleton..although the police have cleared him so what exactly happened?! We still only have the Sun's word for it...a morally bankrupt Tory rag newspaper. Hmmm. I am the first person to call out poor behaviour from men but honestly this absolutely stinks of foul play when George Osbourne has similar accusations levied against him and suddenly this comes out at the same time...! I call foul. So long free press, the Tories want it gone at any cost including destroying families. Show us your source The Sun, prove what you said is true!!! Thought not.

Give over! You think that this was all some sort of elaborate conspiracy by the Tories, who have set him up for some sort of revenge against him supporting Labour?? There are many many famous people who openly support labour and are very vocally critical of the Tories. I can’t see that there’s a common theme of other celebs being set up in compromising situations by the Tories. Your theory is totally bollocks.

Issania87 · 12/07/2023 20:12

Unfortunately in this 'trial by media' age, whether or not he is actually guilty of any crime (and the police say he isn't), the public have deemed him guilty and expect him to be punished.

I personally think if it was on OnlyFans like a previous poster suggested then he has paid for a service and not done anything wrong.

The more concerning rumours are those relating to sexual harassment at work which should definitely mean he loses his job.

He wasn't 17 because if he was there would have been a crime and there hasn't been. and you have fuck all evidence in respect of the other things claimed by the Sun.

storminamooncup · 12/07/2023 20:02

I thought the S*n was a Labour paper (I've never read it)

Hahahaha, nope.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/07/2023 20:04

Like this one? Whose story was pretty ignored because Huw Edwards works for the BBC.
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.politico.eu/article/uk-senior-mp-julian-knight-accused-of-sexually-harassing-young-women/amp/

Yep. All of them.

Twitter is awash with sympathy for him. I don’t get it. Schofield missed a trick not getting his wife to make a statement for him ey....

TheCheeseTray · 12/07/2023 20:13

Pammy26 · 12/07/2023 19:43

I feel deeply sorry for him. He has not broken any laws.

Let’s wait and see. If they were under 18 he has. If he was as previously quoted ‘very angry’ and sent abusive, threatening or intimidating messages to silence those young people again that could be a criminal offence. If he arranged to meet up with them in lockdown that could be criminal or at the least very hypocritical - and message to any on dating sites/ sending images married men - don’t lie to your wife, children and church and pretend to be a Christian or a decent human being when you aren’t behaving as one.

depression or mental health is not an excuse for such behaviour or indeed abuse of any kind - it’s become a sort of ‘get out of jail free card’. My ex-friends daughter has ‘anxiety’ and broke another girl’s nose at school last year after a harassment campaign - in her exclusion appeal she banged on about her anxiety and mental health / I calmly said what about the girl with a cracked cheek bone and broken nose who was as it turned out entirely innocent of anything - what about her anxiety and mental health never mind GCSEs as she hasn’t gone back to school since and is afraid to leave the house - my ex friend is so concerned about her daughter she doesn’t consider the implications on others.

notacooldad · 12/07/2023 20:14

It was a slight give away when he wasn’t on News at 10!
I joked with my husband the other night that I’d hate to be a male presenter on annual leave at this moment. I mentioned Huw to him on Monday and told him to wait until 10 o’clock.

StefanosHill · 12/07/2023 20:15

lubileejubilee · 12/07/2023 19:54

Police say there’s no crime to answer to, therefore between the man and his family imo.

lolling at all the ‘older man abusing a position of power’ comments. Yeah I mind when I was 17, newsreaders were like rock and roll stars 😂 😂 😂

’Hey sweetheart, you want to be on the news? I can make you a big star!’ 😂 😂

You must be kidding

OMGitsnotgood · 12/07/2023 20:15

it actually isn't total bollocks. It's a very common PR/media stunt to ensure stories are buried by other stories. The Sun is a Tory rag. There are a few people who will be breathing a sigh of relief that this story is the focus of media attention right now

For all those protecting or excusing Hue who happens to be a powerful man with status whereas the young person (s) are much younger and extremely vulnerable there is more to come. The BBC are now able to investigate fresh allegations of inappropriate behaviour from Huw towards BBC staff.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12292635/Now-Huw-Edwards-faces-fresh-allegations-inappropriate-behaviour-BBC-colleagues.html

I knew more would come out. Just a matter of time.

His behaviour is abhorrent.

safetyfreak · 12/07/2023 20:16

The media have turned now, and all feel sorry for Huw. He was still chasing after teenagers as a married man in his 60s. Oh my, this country...thats ok now I guess??

StaunchMomma · 12/07/2023 20:16

Snapdrag0n555 · 12/07/2023 19:02

What teenagers?

You mean the adult who made a statement via lawyers saying it was a load of rubbish which has now been corroborated by the police.

More come forward now, including allegations of inappropriate behaviour against colleagues.

tunbridgeoutrage · 12/07/2023 20:16

MissPop · 12/07/2023 19:56

@LadyMary50

You are excusing his behaviour. Bipolar or not, it’s not a get out of jail card for exploiting minors. Combining criminality with mental illness is the forensic arena. Some people are mad. Some people are mad and bad. It’s important to understand the difference or else we have a very, very convenient excuse for male misdemeanours.

With due respect I think that you sound mad and bad. Otherwise why would you accuse a man of criminal acts when he has committed none?

I read on Twitter someone writing that it may be difficult for us to imagine this but some young people are attracted to older people. Some aspects of this story may be unsavoury to you or me but as I said no crime has been committed.

Some people are easily influenced by the lies of the Sun newspaper.

Very young person with a drug habit and vulnerable did things on video for Huw Edwards. Not illegal but immoral. Huw, married with children and in a position of power and status didn't know better. Dirty, mucky and if not illegal and police not investigating then the BBC can look into his actions. Other individuals have come forward so maybe he made a habit out of this, maybe not. Religious man on Sundays and sleaze with much younger and very vulnerable person(s).

Hopefully he will get help for whatever drives him to seek out vulnerable, younger people.

You don't know that any of this is actually true. I am not saying it isn't but at the minute it is not fact.

Namechangey23 · 12/07/2023 20:18

toomuchlaundry · 12/07/2023 19:56

Meant to post many people assume all boys will eventually watch porn. We need to raise the bar. Stop accepting it is just what males do, and educate them

@toomuchlaundry yep I agree. Porn leads to objectifying women like it or not it. It reduces us to tits, arse and fanny. Porn IS modern slavery. Consent cannot be bought. How many women would be involved in Porn just got fun if they were not being coerced with money/fame etc. Porn has evolved into the cam girls, the only fans.. prostitution even just online is suddenly even more accessible to people who wouldn't normally be caught dead doing it. And yet unless women stop looking the other way it will continue. Men are never going to be against it are they. I truly believe porn is also partly responsible for rising violence against women. Policy and legislation has not moved with technology on this one.

whatdoidonowffs · 12/07/2023 20:20

Job done the sun now has no plans to publish further allegations
wankers 🤬

Brieandcamembert · 12/07/2023 20:20

If it's not criminal why is it our business?

Hocuspocusnonsense · 12/07/2023 20:21

I don’t understand.

What exactly has he done?

The police have said no criminal charges so why is he front page news?
