My boobs, my business!

I see loads of bra size arguments on here, usually an individual is torn to shreds for stating she either has a 34 band at size 8-10 and is (god forbid it!) comfortable!
How dare she?? Doesn't she know that bra sizing is an SCIENCE that every woman needs to conform to??
Strangers on the internet know far more than you about what band size you ought to wear, and if you claim to be a 34A then you must be fooling yourself.

What the heck is all that about? It's almost militant. Not all bodies are the same. Some women feel better in a slacker band, and there is no perfect standard or science for comfort.
It is up to the individual how they choose to dress their boobs. But 'personal preference' seems to get a lot of people irate for some reason. There's this persistent myth that all women are wearing the wrong bra size, where almost every bra or boob thread gets derailed by.

Why are other women so freakily invested in the band size of other people? If men were demanding our bra choices were all wrong there's be a justifiable uproar. But for me the same applies to women - mind your own business unless the poster has asked for an opinion.

So currently the dogma (and it is fucking dogma) that most women are wearing the wrong bra seems to be acceptable. I have seen images of perfectly lovely silhouettes where the reaction has been extreme - she MUST be wearing the wrong size (God the hOrror!!!) even though she looks fantastic.

Back the hell off!
My body, my bra, my business. If my cup size choice startles you, maybe go for a walk in nature and get the blood pressure back down. Surely IANBU? Grin

@Boopydoo I dunno if this helps but apparently rumba is based on the Zadie bra and the Zadie is in the sale for £28 on bravissimo Smile

Catspyjamas17 · 12/07/2023 15:12

Measuring for me however, goes like this....
I select a bra in my current size along with one smaller and one bigger. I go to the changing rooms, try them on and the best fitting one gets purchased. Easy.

Indeed. Lots of people said "Oooh you must get measured!" after pregnancy/breastfeeding etc but I just tried a few sizes on and bought what felt/looked good and comfortable. 🤷

bridgetreilly · 12/07/2023 15:13

42C.

Yes, really.

Are you sure you don’t need to go up a cup size and down a band size?

For a bra I can’t do up and cups that my boobs are swimming around in? No.

Well, but surely you need an underwire.

I assure, you, I’m way more comfortable in stretchy things and my boobs sit nicely on my stomach fat. No further support required.

I get it, OP.

LooseInTheCity · 12/07/2023 15:14

I was always a 34C before I did ‘the bra intervention and measured a 32E.

The 32E bras do look better under clothes, no doubt about it. They make me look a bit slimmer and they cup my breast snugly. But I wear the old 34C ones are weekends as they’re slacker and comfier Grin.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 12/07/2023 15:16

I tried the bra revolution. I’m a size 10. Said I should wear a 28dd or some such….I couldn’t do the fucker up! So tried 30d…..felt like I was being cut in half and I quite like breathing 😂. So settled on a 32C after years of wearing a 34B. The 32C definitely fits better.

I have been looking at the pepper bras though for small boobs…I am tempted.

I once wore a bandeau I had made from a pair of old tights. I was early 20's and love how it just slipped on and stayed put, and i couldnt feel that thing, just wonderful!
I feel like I have just owned up to a felony Grin

I used to buy two of the same bra in the sale. One with AA cups (probably a 32 because that was the only AA option) and one with a 36 band, and then sew them (badly) together to make a 36AA bra.

Yes, I came across that somewhere too, and ordered one, but it came up small on the band so it's sat by the front door for return, I'm debating on exchanging it for a size up at the moment or just trying something completely different, or finding an extender decisions, decisions!

Catspyjamas17 · 12/07/2023 15:22

I don't think bra sizes relate well to clothes sizes. I'm always a 12 in tops and dresses these days. However a standard size 12 bikini top would be obscene, I'd always buy them by bra/cup sizes.

FuppingEll · 12/07/2023 15:24

I read some of those you are doing it all wrong threads a few years ago. I followed the way they said to measure, bought a couple of bras, tried them on and felt like I was being cut in 2. I went back to what felt comfortable, I only wear bralettes these days anyway. I'm sure it works for some people but it didn't work for me.

wutheringkites · 12/07/2023 15:25

@empatheticpretzel

Well aren't you a delight. I was sort of hoping you were a man because that would explain the ignorance and unpleasantness to some extent.

toffeeappleglow · 12/07/2023 15:25

YANBU. It's all a bit fanatical with some people on here. I'm sure I don't wear the 'correct' size bra, by most people's definition, but I don't care. I wear what makes me comfortable now, and I have no worries about future back/neck problems, since I'm not particularly well-endowed.

Incidentally, I do wonder if those who wear the teensy-tiny band sizes are the ones who always talk about ripping off the bra the instant they walk through the door at home. It might have more to do with cup size than band length, but I don't feel that way in my probably 'incorrectly'-sized garments. Yes, it feels nice to take them off at night, but I can cheerfully wear them all day without issue and don't feel nearly as comfortable without them on as with them, if I'm up and about.

I had this OP! I’m a 38Band a size 12-14! Happy with my boobs. They’re just boobs. They do what they do ykno! Happened to mention this on a thread and I had my arse handed to me how I couldn’t possibly have such tiny tits and an ENORRRRRMOUS band size. I am actually a 28D (or some bollocks) they declared. I tried the size the recommended as an experiment. It wouldn’t even go round me!

like I know I’m out of proportion. I see me every day. I have broad shoulders and a big rib cage and always have. for some eejit who has never even clapped eyes on me to spout with such assured ness that I must be wrong wound me right up!

empatheticpretzel · 12/07/2023 15:35

I'm sorry if I have upset or offended people. I was simply pointing out that I have never seen a skinny woman with naturally large boobs. If they are naturally very large compared to your frame ok? But I have never seen a skinny woman with real enormous breasts that you would get on someone who is quite overweight.

Notellinganyone · 12/07/2023 15:39

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 14:01

Good for you, but it is not a cult.

No it isn’t - but it can be revelatory in terms of every day life. Your thread is weird. Anyone can do whatever they like obviously.

Simbaiamyourfather · 12/07/2023 15:39

100% 32C here and as my boobs are obviously not that big it blows people's minds that I wear a C cup. But I think a lot of people just don't understand how bra measurements work 🤷‍♀️

On the off chance that you really are sincere...stop. Even if what you're saying is true, that must mean you demand to know from every slim but buxom woman you meet whether she's had surgery or not. Whether you're for real or not, just stop. You are talking rubbish whether you realise it or not.

You've not met me, my sister, my mum and my maternal grandmother then.
We're all twiglets with tits.

This. I do try not to be too evangelical because I know it doesn’t work for everyone, but the smaller band bigger cup thing was really good for my back. I think it probably works better if you’ve got bigger boobs.

Yes this! I do think having a "correctly" fitting bra is more important if you have bigger boobs. My sister is something like a 28AA (bee stings as she calls them). If she buys a 30A (or whatever she can find) instead her boobs are still fine. They still stay "where they should be", don't jiggle etc. She can get away with no bra.

I'm a 40H. If I buy a 40G (the biggest I can find without spending a small fortune) or. 42 whatever, i can feel the difference. My boobs are less supported/saggier, my back and shoulders ache because the support is coming from the wrong place. They jiggle a lot.

If you chose to wear a bra that is the wrong size because it's more comfy then that's up to you. Like a PP said though, if you moan about it I'm gonna suggest buying the right size. My son has a 34" waist, he wears jeans in a 36" because he prefers them. He is technically wearing the wrong size, but he's comfortable so that's his choice. The only difference is that jeans aren't providing support so if they are too big it doesn't really matter.

We get you, you are fat shaming. I was very slim with huge bulbous boobs that people stared at, mostly men, they were out of proportion to the rest of my body, they are not fake. I grew up alongside two other girls at school just like that and we were subjected to being asked for titty wanks from the silly little boys and men. I learned to live my life in big baggy jumpers because I was ashamed of these things that men stared at.

Won't it be wonderful when we reach a time when people don't judge, you've made a judgement, next time just keep it to yourself.

MsCactus · 12/07/2023 15:46

I love this post!

I'm a 32DD - it fits comfortably, lifts my boobs well and is tight (leave marks across my chest, but it's bearable)

But no - based on my measurements I should be wearing a 28FF. My cup size is clearly too small (it isn't). My back size must be incredibly baggy (no, it's tight, it even leaves red marks). The band must be riding up (no it fits fine in the centre of my back).

The 28 band bras are unbearable. So right and painful.

I have no idea why we're told the +4 back method is wrong. It works. You need at least SOME give in the fabric.

Anyway, rant over 😅

This is a ridiculous comment.

My mum weighed just seven stone, very underweight, and her breasts were so big no bras even fit her when I was growing up (yes, even in bravissimo etc). She had to pay a seamstress to specially make larger bras for her.

Of course there are skinny women with giant breasts! I'm sure people thought my mum's were implants, women were always rude to her about them. But no, they were totally natural - she gained three cup sizes with having each of my younger brothers. Lots of skinny women have big boobs and get/want reductions etc.

MyAnacondaMight · 12/07/2023 15:51

If you measure 30 round your rib cage, you’re a 30 bra size. If you prefer to wear a 34 because it’s more comfortable, then go for it - but it doesn’t change your bra size.

Just like a size 10 sizing up in winter jumpers for a cosy feel doesn’t make them a size 14.
