My boobs, my business!

I see loads of bra size arguments on here, usually an individual is torn to shreds for stating she either has a 34 band at size 8-10 and is (god forbid it!) comfortable!
How dare she?? Doesn't she know that bra sizing is an SCIENCE that every woman needs to conform to??
Strangers on the internet know far more than you about what band size you ought to wear, and if you claim to be a 34A then you must be fooling yourself.

What the heck is all that about? It's almost militant. Not all bodies are the same. Some women feel better in a slacker band, and there is no perfect standard or science for comfort.
It is up to the individual how they choose to dress their boobs. But 'personal preference' seems to get a lot of people irate for some reason. There's this persistent myth that all women are wearing the wrong bra size, where almost every bra or boob thread gets derailed by.

Why are other women so freakily invested in the band size of other people? If men were demanding our bra choices were all wrong there's be a justifiable uproar. But for me the same applies to women - mind your own business unless the poster has asked for an opinion.

So currently the dogma (and it is fucking dogma) that most women are wearing the wrong bra seems to be acceptable. I have seen images of perfectly lovely silhouettes where the reaction has been extreme - she MUST be wearing the wrong size (God the hOrror!!!) even though she looks fantastic.

Back the hell off!
My body, my bra, my business. If my cup size choice startles you, maybe go for a walk in nature and get the blood pressure back down. Surely IANBU? Grin

Weird thread. How did you receive all this unsolicited bra size advice? There's a curious lack of examples. I can't imagine putting my bra size on the internet as an incidental piece of information.

Not been on MN long? Grin
Or are you one of the converted?

I have been on here for way too long.

Haven't once received bra advice, or given any until this thread 😂

I knoooow, those sad, poor, silly women who have the wrong band size... because only I know best, i feel so genuinelyooo sorry for them but I would never tell them....

how the fuck would anyone knows what you are wearing? It's an anonymous forum, no photo, you might be a man for all I know. How does YOUR bra size come into any discussion? 😂

lieselotte · 12/07/2023 14:44

I am a size 8 and wear a 34B. The sports bras fit perfectly, I am wearing one now as I'll be going out for my outdoor fitness class later.

Have to admit some of my daytime ones are not quite right.

But I definitely don't think I am something silly like a 28DD. My boobs are not that big, and my rib cage is not that small. And I don't really get the idea of bringing in all the back fat - it's on your back!

I did buy some sports bras which were meant to be low impact sports bras - I think they were right about the low impact bit. I just use them for daytime wear, not any sort of sporting activity.

Is it because some women are really proud of their big boobs and think we all must have boob envy and therefore want larger cups?

When it comes to boob size, I think the smaller the better - they don't get in the way.

Also love the misogyny telling us we are going to get the dreaded saggy tits!

How brainwashed can you get?

That's the worst horror they could imagine!

If folk want to wear the wrong size cos it comfortable, feel free. Doesn't bother me either way. But dont be surprised when ur tits are at your knees.

Misogynist bullshit.

You could wear your tits under you chin for 70 years but they won't look the same at 90 as they did at 20.

I dont need educating by you, a stranger, online, no.

I am not over invested in other people's mammaries. I am sure many people do not consider a backlash to this type of obsession to be at all 'odd'.

Ok so you don't. It's probably a lot better use of time to go and learn a few facts, than spend pages showing off how little you know. I don't understand why some people think its cute and quirky to be ignorant.

KatharinaRosalie · 12/07/2023 14:48

It's simply the thing that if you have bigger breasts and are wearing a bra, any size bra, then your boobs will get some kind of support from the fabric. If the bra back is tight enough, then most of the support comes from back. If the back is too big, then most of the support comes from shoulder straps. Meaning you get welts, grooves in your shoulders and back and neck pain. Been there, always thought that this is how bras will fit when you have a bigger cup, nothing you can do. Turns out this was incorrect and I have no issues in correct size. So if someone complains about same problems, yes I will suggest this as a possible solution. Also when a size 8 person says she can't find a 38AAA bra anywhere, she might find it easier if she checks if another size might not fit better.

Boopydoo · 12/07/2023 14:48

I wear 34J or JJ or K. I am sick of the amount of money I have thrown away on bras. I get measured, different places measure you differently and convince you that you're a different size than you arrived in. Some 34's are comfy, specifically one red bra I currently own is the comfiest thing ever. So I order the exact same model in black and another in white. They arrive, and you are so pleased, you can wear something that goes unnoticed under white or pale colours! My tits are out there already, they don't need more attention bringing to them being in a bright red bra on show to all through summer clothing. But, woe and alack... they don't bloody fit the same, the bands are tighter, the cups not quite so generous, turns out they aren't the same fit as the comfy one but they are meant to be the same bloody size!

The real test after fittings is wearing the damn thing for a length of time. Stood in a changing room it can look ok, feel ok, it's not until two hours later you feel like your ribcage is breaking from pressure or because I was persuaded to go up a band size the rubbing happening under each boob was excruciating. I'm a size 18 but I need the 34 back to support the wait of each massive boob. If I lost my boobs I reckon I'd loose two stones.

I use the famous big girls store nowadays but don't always listen to the fitter lol one store I frequent the most is better at getting things right, but one I visited whilst up North got it completely wrong and were quite condescending to me that the style I was wearing was quite young for a woman of my age. She was pushing me to take on a matronly style that I am not comfortable with. I'm 50 not 80!

My tits, my choice, the weight is on my shoulders and I will choose what works best for me.

Pray for me, my favourite red bra, washed overnight and hung out dry daily is now fraying at the seams and I don't know what I will do when it finally gives out.

Dillydollydingdong · 12/07/2023 14:48

I don't wear one and I've no idea what size I am. The boobs are very comfortable thankyou, sitting inside a strappy vest top. They aren't too heavy and they don't sag. Maybe that's the answer, just don't wear one!

No bra is going to save you from ageing, sorry.

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 14:48

It is interesting how many people are fizzing with anger over this, lol.

letting women do what they want without criticism with their own boobs is apparently quite divisive. Life is a bit short dont you think?

@wholivesondrurylane The style isn't the point. Whatever the style, if I buy a bra with a 32 back, the back will be 32 in size. And I find that uncomfortably tight. So I buy one with the back 36. Then I am comfortable.

But why would you wear the wrong size by choice? It's weird.

In what way is it weird to choose clothing size based on comfort?

wholivesondrurylane · 12/07/2023 14:49

Peacoffee · 12/07/2023 14:45

That's the worst horror they could imagine!

I wish shops could train their bra fitters properly, and women could get a real advice when they are buying their products. It's a pity it doesn't happen.

bonfirebash · 12/07/2023 14:49

@Boopydoo have you tried Elomi? I wear the Matilda but if that fits you, basically I find every "plunge" shape (as described by them) by Elomi fits me too
So I wear Matilda, Kim, Brianna, sachi... they all fit perfectly

MumGMT · 12/07/2023 14:50

A lot of people don't realise that women can be an hourglass shape without having big boobs.
So it's very possible for someone to have a broader back with no boobs or small boobs.

But people have got it into their head that you can transfer the extra inches of muscle/fat/rib from the back and pull it all around the front and make it into boobs, it's bizarre and not comfortable.

There used to be a makeover show on tv where no matter what size a woman was they'd put her in a 34 back size. Most of the ladies were bigger and there was just no way they could have been a 34 but no matter what size they were she'd say they were actually a 34 back size and then some ridiculous cup size that they clearly weren't. There's no way that they could have been comfortable in them so I can't imagine them sticking to 34 after the show.

wutheringkites · 12/07/2023 14:50

I don't care what size bra people use to wear but posters can fuck right off with the suggestion that I only wear a bra for aesthetic/ fashion/ sexual reasons.

I'm a size 10 and wear a 32GG. Wearing a bra allows me to lead an active(ish) life in relative comfort.

empatheticpretzel · 12/07/2023 14:50

I haven't read the replies but on the unlikely chance this hasn't been mentioned, thin woman are unlikely to have enormous boobs. Boobs are made from fat. If you lose a lot of weight your boobs will get smaller.

DD cup size does not mean big. 34B is in fact exactly the same boob size as 28DD.

I wish. I lost 3 stone and just made my back size smaller meaning I was then a 32KK and bras were even harder to find
Measured a 30E age 15

You should do what is comfy for you, it is surprising how people stick their oar in to such a personal issue.

My op stands against women criticising other women for doing it 'wrong'.
And there is no right or wrong, only personal preference. No idea how this has pee's so many off.

It is like you have to be on one team or another, or you will get cancer, saggy breasts, disapproval, or years in purgatory.

This is such an odd thread, do you not understand that there is the same volume of boob in a 28D, 30C and 32B bra, the only difference is the size of the band? No ones boobs are magically getting bigger because they are measured to need a tighter band.

If the volume of boob is the same why have different cup sizes? You'd just have a "chest" size in that case (which is how some lighter impact sports bras work.

In relation to sports bras I read a book recently which said that a well fitting sports bra can help you run significantly faster to the extent that if you ran a marathon with a badly fitting bra and a well fitting bra, your well fitting bra self would be a mile ahead of your badly fitting bra self bra by the end. Worth thinking about if you want a marathon personal best time, but a different issue to arguing about cup size as it is more about the support for high impact running.

Ha. Ah ha. Ahahaha ha ha.

When I lost weight, the back and side fat came off and the boobs stayed the same. Result: lower dress size, lower band size, bigger cup size.

Runningonjammiedodgers · 12/07/2023 14:54

I'm a size 8 and wear a 34 band A cup. But think I should be a smaller band as other people my size are. But then a measure myself and come out as a 34. I don't find bras comfy, but I have no idea if it is not comfy because it's too big or too small. Cups gape though. Event though they are a sodding A cup.

tunbridgeoutrage · 12/07/2023 14:54

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:12

I am a 32B, they are quite small. I was told I MUST be a D cup with like a 26 band or something ludicrous! Yes ladies i am purposely strangling my boobs just to be obstinate!

What?! Who told you that?
