My boobs, my business!

I see loads of bra size arguments on here, usually an individual is torn to shreds for stating she either has a 34 band at size 8-10 and is (god forbid it!) comfortable!
How dare she?? Doesn't she know that bra sizing is an SCIENCE that every woman needs to conform to??
Strangers on the internet know far more than you about what band size you ought to wear, and if you claim to be a 34A then you must be fooling yourself.

What the heck is all that about? It's almost militant. Not all bodies are the same. Some women feel better in a slacker band, and there is no perfect standard or science for comfort.
It is up to the individual how they choose to dress their boobs. But 'personal preference' seems to get a lot of people irate for some reason. There's this persistent myth that all women are wearing the wrong bra size, where almost every bra or boob thread gets derailed by.

Why are other women so freakily invested in the band size of other people? If men were demanding our bra choices were all wrong there's be a justifiable uproar. But for me the same applies to women - mind your own business unless the poster has asked for an opinion.

So currently the dogma (and it is fucking dogma) that most women are wearing the wrong bra seems to be acceptable. I have seen images of perfectly lovely silhouettes where the reaction has been extreme - she MUST be wearing the wrong size (God the hOrror!!!) even though she looks fantastic.

Back the hell off!
My body, my bra, my business. If my cup size choice startles you, maybe go for a walk in nature and get the blood pressure back down. Surely IANBU? Grin

It doesn’t matter what bra size you are when every single brand is different and doesn’t fit the bastard same anyway.

And the fawning over boob or bust can get to fuck to.

Tiredjoanna · 12/07/2023 13:26

I'm a size 6 and wear a 32 band and when I was an 8-10 I wore a 34. All body shapes are different and I totally get wanting comfort instead of style

Wimbo · 12/07/2023 13:26

Don’t care what size you are or how you measured (or didn’t).

It’s you who has started yet another thread on this and got all shouty about it.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 12/07/2023 13:26

I am a happy 34DD. I would be happier if they were higher by themselves but thems the breaks after having kids. I am a size 10 and short. I know my size cos I recently got sized.

gogomoto · 12/07/2023 13:26

Completely agree! I got told I'm the bra shop I was a 32g. Far too uncomfortable. I'm happy in my 36 e's thank you

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:27

Helenahandkart · 12/07/2023 13:25

I wonder if that was me? I once made the mistake of telling mumsnet I was AAA and got so much grief. As if I haven’t tried a million bras in various sizes over the years DESPERATELY looking for a conventional size that would fit me, rather than having to rely on expensive bras from specialist websites that all look like cutesy underwear for children.
It is VERY weird how aggressive women of mumsnet are when they want you to wear a different sized bra. Maybe they’re all in a bad mood because of their uncomfortably tight bands, and they want to take you down with them.

Yep i am reading that thread right now!

OP posts:
Tiredjoanna · 12/07/2023 13:28

Yep go down a cup size and up a back size

LuvSmallDogs · 12/07/2023 13:29

Whenever I suspect my bra size has changed, I go slightly up or down in band size and maybe cupsize. Whatever I get is usually fine until it wears out. My boobs are non-dense and have a fair amount of loose skin from yo-yoing so much over the years, so they can probably put up with more squishing than denser, firmer boobs.

Cheezecake · 12/07/2023 13:30

At least you are 'well-behaved' and wear a bra. I commit the sin of choosing not to, like that gardener.

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:32

I often dont wear one, and i am in meno so they sure dont sit upright like scaffolded bosoms! I also like a soft bandeau, just can't be arsed these days so long as theyre not flapping about.

I stopped wearing bras following shoulder problems 5 years ago. No issues here.

And if you say you go braless they will tell you you are too old, saggy or deluded. Crikey, who needs enemies!

Crunchymum · 12/07/2023 13:33

What about larger ladies?

I have a relative who wears a 42E (she's a size 18/20) how does all the banding stuff that has completely passed me by work for bigger ladies?

I probably am too old, saggy and deluded. Very luckily, I really don't care.

Well from what I have observed, it doesn't matter the size, only that you are wrong!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 12/07/2023 13:37

I know what you mean. I also know what the 'enthusiastic bra people' comments mean.

If someone comes on and says 'god I can't find a bra, nowhere does a 36aa that doesn't ride up and rub everywhere' especially with accompanying photo, I think it's ok for people to say, 'er, are you sure that's the right size? Have you measured?'

But, and I say this as a person wearing a 36DD when my generously measured underbust is 33 inches, I like to be able to breathe, thanks. Yes boob or bust puts me in a 32G but I feel like I'm wearing body armour 2 sizes too small. I've tried, it's awful, therefore that size does not fit me. I wouldn't wear jeans that cut off my circulation and no one would expect me to. I'm not doing it with a bra.

DrSbaitso · 12/07/2023 13:37

Yeah, I had a woman insisting I was lying about being a size 12 with 30HHs.

Yes, the tits are big, but look at the full size and figure out where they're being offset, genius. Plus, cup size isn't static with all band sizes...34D is a bigger cup than 32D, so the back being narrow is one reason the cups are large.

Most women do wear a band size that's too big, but if they're happy with it, it's their decision.

Blottingpaperscript · 12/07/2023 13:37

34 band here and I wear a size 8. 32 band leaves marks and digs in because I have misbehaved previously by lifting weights and having unladylike muscles. I also refuse to wear high heels or thongs or any other uncomfortable skimpy clothing which would restrict movement - I'm positively wild and need sending to finishing school to learn my place...

JobzaGoodun · 12/07/2023 13:38

I had about 3 months of discomfort some years ago now, before abandoning the 30E's or whatever it was and returning to my nice, comfortable bras and cropped vests.

Some posters on here can be militant about it.

What really pisses me off though, is when a photo is posted of either a celeb, or a political or mnetter and somebody pops up with 'she needs a good bra'. Just fuck off.

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:39

How do you know?
Isn't it all a bit weird?
It's like the tit police.

Notanotherhousepost · 12/07/2023 13:40

I just don't wear one anymore - that solves that problem. If I have to wear one, its a soft bra-let

44C and unashamed of bouncing

Rainbowshit · 12/07/2023 13:41

Perhaps because for some of us it has been a bit life changing finding the correct bra size. I looked like I'd dropped a stone in weight and felt so much confident and better about myself.

Soverymuchfruit · 12/07/2023 13:41

Hell yes. Remember being told on here "if you have a positive amount of breast tissue you can't be an A cup". Yeah that's right A cup bra go inwards instead of outwards.

My 34 band friends, may I recommend a 36 band for the summer? Less sweaty.

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:42

Yeh, i don't buy traditional bras anymore so for me its either S/M or dress sizes, so the bands are irrelevant. I doubt there's any science to hoiking a boob into some elasticated fabric. Trends and choices change through history, there is no perfect way to present one's body to the world. Good deal of profit to made though!
