Who needs a fucking wank panzer in Wimbledon???

Ban them in urban areas.

Monthly interest payments on what? I own both my cars out right.

Of course you do.

Why would I not? not every one is poor like you obviously are.

@DataNotLore

So I live in a very rural area for obvious reason I need a 4x4 estate. I also am required to carry a lot of equipment with me as part of my job and a majority of the time I need to visit urban areas like Wimbledon.

So what do you suggest I do?

Get a grip. 🙄

Why do you obviously need a wank panzer? I live very rurally too, my house and workplace are accessed up a rough track, I also have to transport a lot of equipment around. My farmer neighbour managed without one too.

This thread reminds me of some Americans after a school shooting… it’s not the guns fault, it’s the shooter…. We have a right to buy whatever guns we want…. Etc.

It's also very similar to the arguments made by smokers when the smoking indoors ban was made.
It's now considered very selfish to smoke in pubs or cars etc, but years ago it took a long time for that narrative to change.

SideWonder · 07/07/2023 17:57

I appreciate the additional security it offers me and my family,

Nasty nasty attitude @Mark19735

SUVs are demonstrably less safe for anyone near one. You might be able to buy the "security" for your family, but your choice endangers others.

Oh well, I suppose all your money can't actually buy you class or compassion.

Oh bless you. Best you can do? Accuse me of being a povo? I’ve even offered to lend you the cash to pay for yours, and that’s the thanks I get.

run along. GBeebies is on!

There’s an environmental movement to slash SUV tyres under cover of darkness you know…

Where?

Quite simply why would any one want to borrow your your benefits payments.

lightlypoached · 07/07/2023 18:01

A range river weight 2.8 tons. A standard saloon /estate is 1.4 tons.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that the huge vehicle will do more carnage than a small one.

They should not be allowed in urban zones.

In my lindon street people keep buying them, only for them to be stolen to order shortly after. Yet still they buy them and cram the street with them. Ridiculous ego trip.

You’re easily triggered aren’t you?

were you bullied at school? Not everyone who doesn’t have a big car like you is struggling. You understand that? Yes?

I get that a big ass car defines you so perhaps I should save my sarcasm and feel pity for you.

You’re so right. I’ve said earlier the size of the car in the tragic accident, nobody needs that. There are needs, by some, but that one is huge and unnecessary.

Cucucucu · 07/07/2023 17:53

Also let’s stop assuming all suvs are huge , they drive a for s -max that is bigger heavier than my partners big SUV ,should we ban mpv ‘a too or estates ? 🙄🙄🙄

As said many times, it's not the weight, it's the height and bonnet shape. If a pedestrian gets hit by a hatchback or saloon, they tend to be hit at leg/torso height and thrown into the bonnet. SUVs and pick ups hit much higher up doing more injury to the head and upper torso, and pedestrians are pulled under the car and driven over. I apologise if it's a graphic image, but it's becoming very clear on these threads that people genuinely aren't aware of the dangers they pose to pedestrians and cyclists.

Surely the weight IS a factor, in addition to the height & bonnet shape.
These factors combine to make these vehicles extremely problematic and not just from a safety point of view.

Whippetlovely · 07/07/2023 18:12

Wow some of these posts are so pathetic and childish. No wonder this country’s an absolute shit show. It was the maniac that was driving the suv that has caused that child to die. Most people don’t drive like that. We know all vehicles are dangerous and can kill people. There was the maniac terrorist that drove that ford fiesta into people in London and the other one who drove over people in a van. It’s the people who have the issues not the vehicles. Or just nan them all just in case!!! It’s a bit neurotic and silly.

Yes sorry that's a typo on my part, it should have said weight is not the only factor. Been making that exact point all day today.

hopeishere · 07/07/2023 13:43

We don't know what happened. A mini could have caused the same terrible outcomes. It's not because it was a SUV.

I doubt it, Defenders weigh 2 tonnes. And I say this as an admirer of SUVs.

Highandlows · 07/07/2023 18:19

What a ridiculous suggestion OP.
Some people would enjoy the acceptable Russian Lada after the next elections. LOL

Maniac? It could have been mechanical failure.

I just don’t think you can seriously equate a firearm, which has a single purpose of maiming or killing, with a vehicle.

My vehicle could seriously injure. Anyone’s vehicle could if someone fucked up enough. But it’s sole purpose is not to kill.

I know there’s been a goady derailment latterly here, but please don’t sink to their level and equate choosing or requiring a large vehicle with being a Second Amendment-preaching, gun totin’, lobbyist, picketing outside a school destroyed by a shooting.

MrsClusterduck · 07/07/2023 18:32

By your logic OP, we should ban women drivers. The woman driving caused this atrocity not the vehicle.

ah, 'guns dont kill people, people kill people'
The same person in charge of a less lethal vehicle would cause far less damage (assuming all other factors are held equal)
Just like a person with a catapult does far less damage than one with an assault rifle.
The type of vehicle is a very significant factor in the outcome of this awful accident.

Pearlsaminga · 07/07/2023 18:44

Thanks @Lionoso I wasn't meaning to disagree with you, it's important that people realize how the size and shape of these vehicles affects the outcome of road traffic accidents!

SandandSky · 07/07/2023 18:48

I use a large vehicle for my small business. I live remotely but have to drop my kids at the (albeit smaller than ldn) city for school. I’ll just shrink my car for the school run shall I and then magically make it larger again for the things I need it for.

I get where you are coming from but demonising every SUV driver is not it.

Thatbloodyhedge · 07/07/2023 18:50

This is easily the most moronic post I've commented on...
And that's few as I'm absolutely floored at the responses
Fucks sake
A child has died
I wish the family involved my love and prayers x
And to the ones that are in hospital having witnessed this horrific situation
That is all all.

Yea but guns and cars are different. Yes, cars can be weaponised but so can a number of things. Unlike a gun, the sole existence of a vehicle is not violence.
