I’m due a baby girl in September. I really like the name Sepora and think it’s quite unique. DH hates it! Am I being aibu here?

OP posts:
NotAMissionPriority · 06/07/2023 16:54

Like the shop?

ThatFraggle · 06/07/2023 16:54

Make me think you're a fan of the cosmetics brand Sephora. Her sister will be Maybelline.

Coralsunset · 06/07/2023 16:55

Well it's very close to Sephora, a discount beauty brand.

I wouldn't.

Chocolatesandroses · 06/07/2023 16:56

I thought of the make up as well . There’s a Spanish girls name sefora it means life apparently . I don’t think it’s nice name sorry op

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/07/2023 16:57

From the title I assumed you meant Sephora but had mistyped.

Is Sepora a made-up name? I think it's sounds awful, sorry. More like a brand of cleaning products than a girl's name.

"Can't get rid of that grease on your pans? Just use Sepora and they'll be sparkling in a flash".

Alconleigh · 06/07/2023 16:57

Yes, instantly think Sephora. That's a no. Unless you are planning siblings Superdrug and Boots.

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/07/2023 16:59

Sorry but it looks like a misspelling of the make up shop.

RoomOfRequirement · 06/07/2023 17:00

Please don't do that to your child.

Peony654 · 06/07/2023 17:00

I’d just think it was after the shop. And the “pora” sound isn’t that nice just sounds like “pore”

Sunnyfeelgood · 06/07/2023 17:00

It makes me think of custard separating (no idea why!) Or pores on the nose. So it's a no for me

YallaYallaaa · 06/07/2023 17:01

I love the Biblical name Zipporah if that’s any good?

AndTheSurveySays · 06/07/2023 17:01

Why not just use Zipporah?

TellerTuesday · 06/07/2023 17:01

It's also just a bit too similar to Zoflora for me OP, sorry

Dartmoorcheffy · 06/07/2023 17:02

I thought of the shop.too. sorry but it's a silly name for a girl to be lumbered with. She'll probably get called sepsis by the mean kids for a start.

Miekle · 06/07/2023 17:02

Is it an existing name somewhere in the world? If it's culturally significant to you, fair enough.
If you've made it up though, you can do better! 😆
What about Sapphira?

x2boys · 06/07/2023 17:03

I.thought of the death metal band Sepultura.

TheYear2000 · 06/07/2023 17:03

How about Seraphina / Serafina or Soroya or Serena?

Incognito2023 · 06/07/2023 17:03

I must be an old fogey because I’ve never heard of the make-up brand so no associations there for me.
But sorry no, although I do like unusual names it just doesn’t sound very pretty to me

ManateeFair · 06/07/2023 17:04

Well it's very close to Sephora, a discount beauty brand.

Sephora's not a discount beauty brand - it's just a store that stocks a whole range of beauty brands under one roof. It's not discount stuff.

Agree that I would immediately think of Sephora if someone told me their child's name was Sepora though.

ThatFraggle · 06/07/2023 17:04

Even Sapphira sounds like a YouNique spelling of Sapphire, or a model of car.

Grumpy101 · 06/07/2023 17:04

Nope terrible name

HRTQueen · 06/07/2023 17:09

I think it’s a lovely name

my name was considered strange when I was young and I wanted to be called Cherie. But then my friend Claire didn’t like her name either but it was very popular (she still doesn’t but I love my name)

Countdowntowinter · 06/07/2023 17:18

An online discount beauty brand. Or you could have Maybeline, or Lotus or Lakme or Lush or L'oreal whichever you think goes with the surname?

Countdowntowinter · 06/07/2023 17:19

Alconleigh · 06/07/2023 16:57

Yes, instantly think Sephora. That's a no. Unless you are planning siblings Superdrug and Boots.

Was thinking along the same lines.

Has anyone ever called their child Tesco, or Sainsbury. I imagine Boots is a definite though

Thehop · 06/07/2023 17:20

Oh no don't
