Permanently banned for ‘promoting hate’

RumAndReisling · 04/07/2023 13:32

Following ten years uneventful membership of a major social media site I have been permanently banned for ‘promoting hate’.

Never again will I be able to participate on that site.

My crime? Saying that if you had given birth to a child, there was no way you could literally change sex and produce semen to father one.

Is this not a statement of fact, or is this now unacceptable to say?

AIBU to say that my husband isn’t able to give birth?

You broke their rules, you can't use their site any more

was it worth it?

Telling the truth is "breaking the rules"? Well, only for those of us who aren't habitual liars.

YMMV

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 04/07/2023 14:42

TRAs have started saying there are no clear distinction between sexes.

If both sexes are supposedly pretty much the same anyway, then what is the whole point in them so 'assertively' insisting that they are not the one sex that their body suggests but that they are in fact the other one?

Why does it matter so very, very much to them - to the extent that people are protesting, campaigning, cancelling people and getting birth certificates changed - in the first place?

I'm firmly of the 'traditional' (scientifically provable) point of view that the two sexes are indeed distinct and clearly different in a number of important ways; but there seems to me to be a great deal of dissonance in the perspective of those embracing 'gender ideology'. A bit like the word 'gender', which now appears to mean either exactly the same as 'sex' OR something completely different, depending on what point the TRA are trying to enforce.

I think these are signs we are entering a very difficult period in human history. Being frightened to tell the truth, being punished for telling the truth, all coincide with periods in history where atrocities were committed.

Indeed, like gender reassignment procedures being conducted on children.

TonTonMacoute · 04/07/2023 14:42

Of course it’s not ‘hate’.

Frankly why worry about being banned from a social media site that wants to exercise this level of thought control?

The overwhelming majority of people would agree with your statement. If we all abandon these social media the sooner we can end all this crap.

They are commercial enterprises at the end of the day. Look what happened to Bud Light!

It's fact mate but these people want you to believe fantasy.

I'm not saying I agree with their position, but they make it very clear what will happen if you break their rules

Gender identity is a protected characteristic. I don't see why you think you spouting conspiracy theories and hate is somehow OK. There are agreed terms of use, review them.

Conspiracy theories?! Only biological women can get pregnant and only biological men can produce sperm. There is no conspiracy!

loislovesstewie · 04/07/2023 14:45

If everyone is entitled to their belief then presumably I am entitled to my belief that no one changes sex, therefore I am not going along with the delusion that they can? I don't have to be disrespectful but I deal in facts not belief. The same way I don't believe in the existence of any supernatural being. You can believe but I am not going along with that belief. If asked I am going to say that, I understand that some people get distressed by others being atheists, but I shouldn't have to pretend otherwise.

SugarRaye · 04/07/2023 14:47

Superdupes · 04/07/2023 14:01

As everyone else is too understandably horrified to explain this I will.

This is not the same in any way, shape or form.

Everyday is white history day in this country, because it's a majority white country. Black history month is to draw attention to the history of a minority group.

This has no similarity in any way to pretending that transmen can produce sperm or transwomen can get pregnant.

It's all part of free speech. A biological woman is entitled to say they're a man. It doesn't mean they are biologically a man but they are allowed to call themselves that. And others are allowed to say that they are not actually a man, despite what they call themselves, they are still biologically a woman. Out of good manners we would address the transman as 'he' because that's the polite thing to do and it doesn't do us any harm to be polite. You shouldn't be closed down for stating the truth but we should consider the appropriateness of the situation for saying. Same as if someone's cousin is prettier and slimmer. That's the truth. We don't keep repeating it because it can be hurtful to the less pretty, less slim cousin, but people shouldn't be cancelled for saying it.
And people are legally entitled to want a black history month and they're also legally entitled to ask for a white history month. And they shouldn't be cancelled for it. That some people are "horrified" by it is neither here or there. What people should be horrified for is that we live in a country where if you don't keep to conversations set as norms by an unknown group of people on the Internet, our lives can be cancelled; where if you have a view that differs from that of the CEO of the bank, they can close down your bank accounts and you effectively can't exist.
It's all free speech and people shouldn't be closed down for stating actual facts or questioning govt or school policies. Because not all policies are good.
If a policy can't be defended as you, @Superdupes, have explained black history month, then we should be looking at the policy for its point.
But don't shut people down. Because one day, we'll find we have a view and others are closing us down.

Indeed, like gender reassignment procedures being conducted on children.

Their stories are devastating, its experimental surgery on children. Some of those surgeons should be incarcerated. And speaking of incarceration, women being raped by males in prison, isnt that against the Geneva Convention on the humane treatment of prisoners? Another atrocity.

Beowulfa · 04/07/2023 14:50

All of this nonsense was encapsulated by the photo of convicted double rapist Isla Bryson, with his rapist's cock bulging through his woman-gender pink leggings. Politicians squirmed and contorted themselves to avoid having to state the truth. Some newspapers pretended nothing had happened by just printing a headshot.

This is the reality that we are told it's "promoting hate" to point out.

No, the protected characteristic is Gender Reassignment.

@GrinAndVomit

I'm gender critical. Op's comment was incorrect.

I'm not 'pretending' anything at all, but if you are going to wade into highly charged debates online then you had best be accurate about it.

Begonne · 04/07/2023 14:58

Actually I think jane1956 has illustrated the point perfectly. Instead of rushing to ban or delete the poster, several other posters have given feedback, engaged, explained and discussed that point, despite finding it abhorrent.

When did debate become so difficult that we have to shut down anything vaguely uncomfortable to us? Free speech is important.

I'm genuinely stumped to think what the rule could be.
You're not allowed to discuss human biology?
But what SM site would that be?

Oh dear, you haven’t a Scooby have you? 😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Gender Identity IS NOT A PROTECTED CHARACTERISTIC.

There is nothing hateful in saying as a FACT that you can’t change your biological sex. No matter how many operations or dangerous drugs you take.

What is truly hateful in my opinion, is allowing children to think that they can change sex and that to do so will make them happy.

ASGIRC · 04/07/2023 15:02

FOJN · 04/07/2023 14:13

If anyone started banging on about how my cousin is prettier and thinner than me, he/they wouldn't be wrong - thinner is certainly factual - but I'd also consider it pretty hateful.

You think someone would have to be motivated by hate to vocalise such an observation? Hate is a pretty powerful emotion, wouldn't it be more likely that someone was being rude, tactless, socially inept or insensitive?

The differences between the sexes matter in some areas of life and we need to be able to use accurate language when it does matter. There is nothing hateful about that.

In this example, yes, the person might just be rude or inept.

However, in the context of trans people, from what Ive read here on MN, it is ALWAYS hateful. All you have to do is go on the Feminism board and read literally any thread about trans people (trans women seem to be the biggest target).

Most posts there will even equate a trans woman to a pedophile.

It is not just stating the fact that a trans woman cannot give birth or a trans man does not produce sperm. Sure, those are facts. But Ill bet anything the OP did not just state the facts.

Where was her comment incorrect?
She stated only one sex gives birth. She stated if one person is of the sex that gives birth, they cannot them change to the sex which produces sperm.
She didn’t say all females give birth.

The inaccuracy is yours.

Please don't conflate sex and gender. It's transphobic to do so.
OP was clearly talking about sex.

Hang on you what now? Saying that someone who has birthed a child would be subsequently unable to father one, is a conspiracy theory? Are you quite well?
