Permanently banned for ‘promoting hate’

RumAndReisling · 04/07/2023 13:32

Following ten years uneventful membership of a major social media site I have been permanently banned for ‘promoting hate’.

Never again will I be able to participate on that site.

My crime? Saying that if you had given birth to a child, there was no way you could literally change sex and produce semen to father one.

Is this not a statement of fact, or is this now unacceptable to say?

AIBU to say that my husband isn’t able to give birth?

Gender identity is a protected characteristic. I don't see why you think you spouting conspiracy theories and hate is somehow OK. There are agreed terms of use, review them.

What's the conspiracy theory?

FOJN · 04/07/2023 14:14

Gender identity is a protected characteristic.

No it isn't. Gender reassignment is.

There isn't even a universally understood definition of gender identity.

RumAndReisling · 04/07/2023 14:15

The context was someone saying there wasn’t a clear way to define male and female.

And I was asking that if that wasn’t the case; why did only some of us give birth?

I did caveat it by saying this was of course identity aside, and specifically referring to the definition of biological sex.

There you are OP. I'm sure that's just the sort of response you were looking for.

I knew what this thread would be about before I even started reading it!

Do you really believe that saying you can't change sex is a conspiracy theory?

Quite right since that was as goady as fuck

wutheringkites · 04/07/2023 14:18

Well not all women can or do give birth so you are incorrect anyway.

Is it a conspiracy theory that the female sex are able to give birth and can’t produce semen?

I don’t really understand how the above is hate or a conspiracy theory to be honest.

Can we not talk about pregnancy and birth in context of being female without it being offensive?

loooool. I love this new trend of people who have absolutely zero scientific education suddenly become 'experts' and start redefining facts based on their biased reading of extremely small amounts of scientific information. this is a case in point. TRAs have started saying there are no clear distinction between sexes. that even the DNA (xx versus xy) is not a consistent distinction between the sexes. and what is this argument based on? ah yes, very rare genetic conditions such as Turner's Syndrome - completely ignoring that these individuals are not trans, they are incredibly rare and have very unfortunate health issues due to their chromosomal abnormality. humans are very good at lying to themselves.

wutheringkites · 04/07/2023 14:22

@FOJN

Yes, I agree with that but op's point was sloppily made. And NO amount of RESPONDING in Caps will make her point correct.

Wow! How ignorant are you? They have black history month to educate racists like yourself and to celebrate diversity. EVERY MONTH is white history month!!!!

Not sure why I'm so surprised given your username

AlfietheSchnauzer · 04/07/2023 14:28

Then again, my mother is 78 and not a bloody racist

Ladyoftheknight · 04/07/2023 14:28

I'm a TRA and agree with you. Perhaps it's because even true statements like yours 'trigger' people, which I think is ridiculous when we're talking about grown adults.

loislovesstewie · 04/07/2023 14:29

Being kind does not involve becoming involved in a delusion. Beieving that human being actually changes sex is delusional, if I thought I was the Queen of Sheba and asked to be treated as if I were, most would think I was delusional,no one would agree to the latter, so why with the former?
If a man wants to be called Jane instead of Jon and wear a dress, fine, but he doesn't become female. We would be aiding him in his delusion. FWIW , I can't think of anything else where we are so encouraged to be kind and agree to this madness.

YouJustDoYou · 04/07/2023 14:30

Biological facts aren't affected by feelings. XX cannot become XY.

ScentlessAprentice · 04/07/2023 14:33

Oh, @jane1956 yes, you are very much a racist. How embarrassing for you.

There is literally nothing inaccurate in the OP. She did not say all women could give birth but that having done so was evidence that you could not produce sperm and father child.

This matters because some women who identify as men and give birth want to be recorded as the child's father on the birth certificate.

Just because a fact is spoken doesn't mean the behaviour is not hateful.

Intention and context really matter in deciding whether your behaviour and language you are using is hateful.

For instance, it's pretty much fact that my cousin is wayyyy more beautiful than I am. She is an absolute stunner. Slim and glamorous, compared to me... chubby and troll-like. It is no small difference.

If anyone started banging on about how my cousin is prettier and thinner than me, he/they wouldn't be wrong - thinner is certainly factual - but I'd also consider it pretty hateful.

What's the point in pointing that out? What are you trying to achieve here? It's fact, but in what way do you think this is relevant - what is your aim in speaking about this fact?

In the case of pointing out my aesthetic failure, it's apparent that the intentions are obviously pretty unkind, even if it is nothing but truth being spoken.

It's also not really conducive if the context of conversation is, say, whether I deserve basic respect and consideration or not.

Whether your cousin is more beautiful than you is actually totally and utterly subjective and a really poor example.

Only men produce semen, only women produce eggs is a statement based in reality it isn't subjective. It isn't offensive or hateful.

wutheringkites · 04/07/2023 14:37

*The context was someone saying there wasn’t a clear way to define male and female.

@FOJN I was referring to this post.

Again, I agree with you that men cannot give birth, but using this example to define men and women is a poor and incorrect choice.

LightlySearedontheRealityGrill · 04/07/2023 14:37

I think these are signs we are entering a very difficult period in human history. Being frightened to tell the truth, being punished for telling the truth, all coincide with periods in history where atrocities were committed.

Justaboutalive · 04/07/2023 14:39

This is wrong! Just wrong - people misquoting and twisting the Equalities act is half the reason there is so much contention and aggravation in this area. It is a bit like Trump’s alternative truth.

sex is a protected characteristic
gender reassignment is a protected characteristic.

As a general rule, I ask myself whether I’m punching up or down. I feel punching up is fine, but down is wrong.

so re white history month - who is generally repressed white or black? Therefore it is appropriate to have a black history month, without even thinking of balancing it with a white one.

transwomen using single sex spaces and changing the meaning of words to co-opt words related to women is wrong, because it is a male punching down on a female. It doesn’t matter is trans people are also disadvantaged, as the general disadvantage is overwhelmingly of women.

trans people being denied healthcare, housing, being hurt or taunted by people who are happy with societal norms because they have changed gender, is punching down and so is wrong.

you have yo ask yourself , did you post to protect female words/places, or did you do so to denigrate trans people and their beliefs. If it was the latter you were punching down and it is right for you to be banned. Even if it is not factual, they are entitled to their beliefs.

So you just toe the line and agree that that biological facts are……not facts at all?
Thats a road with a dangerous destination.

PonyPatter44 · 04/07/2023 14:39

I came across some clown on FB recently who was stating authoritatively that there are six sexes. He (naturellement) was giving examples of these outlier sexes, but all the examples were different assortments of X and Y. At no point did he bring in a Z or even a P, which I would have expected if there were other sexes.
