Prison visit TikToks

Emptychairdoasolo · 02/07/2023 11:30

One video popped up a week or so ago and I watched it so now my feed is inundated with these videos. Young girls and women making videos like ‘get ready with me to visit my boyfriend’ ‘spend the day with me visiting my baby’ which was in fact their partner.

I absolutely do not begrudge men in prison having visits and I actually have very strong feelings about rehabilitation and safety in prisons, quality of life etc but AIBU to think this is just glamourising it?

For the younger girls and women 18-24 that I see, can use common sense and assume that the types of crimes their partners of the same age would be committing are assault, drug possession/dealing, drink driving. Hardly victimless crimes and it doesn’t sit right with me that they are putting that online for others to consume the videos and make a cutesy video out of it.

It makes me desperately sad reading the comments and so many people saying it’s their situation too and it’s girls so early into their adult life in relationships with these men.

@Againstmachine
You are saying it's 'mostly untrue' that there are good people in prison

I'm asking what do you mean by that?

It's pretty self explanatory most good people don't get sent to prison.

Nearly all people who get sent to prison are scumbags.

It isn't even that easy to end up there these days so you have to do serious stuff to end up there. This isn't the movies prisons aren't full of the innocent.

What do you think she means? It's pretty bizarre that you are pushing for an explanation of a pretty self explanatory sentence. She doesn't believe that most crims are good people.

I've come across prisontok a few times OP and it is pretty bizarre. Women(never men) wasting their lives waiting for 'their man' to get released, trying to twist the whole thing into some kind of fairytale. The ones who have never ever met these blokes in real life but think they have found their soulmate are even crazier. Why they think all that they deserve is a man in a cage is beyond me.

It’s a strange thing. I’ve seen few. It’s amazing all these women are going to prison to meet men who were all set up or never did it.

They're all innocent I prison, aren't they ? 🤣🤣🤣

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 02/07/2023 15:37

Prisoners attract all sorts of weirdos. Just take Ted Bundy for instance, he had loads of fans. And, even Ian Huntley got love letters from women.

And, as an aside, I'm a good person and I'm going to get sent to prison if I don't pay my council tax arrears very soon.

Rosemarypots · 02/07/2023 15:41

I knew somebody who used to sit on a parole board. She said it was so conflicting, as maintaining a relationship on the outside was viewed positively in terms of readiness for release, but that she considered being in a relationship with a prisoner was often really negative for the women they were in relationships with.

Stomacharmeleon · 02/07/2023 15:46

Danniella Westbrook... shows off her new face whilst posing in a wedding gown ahead of marrying her jailbird fiancée.
In the papers yesterday... says it all.

BusyInTheGarden · 02/07/2023 15:24

What are you trying to say?

Go on. Give it a try. It's self explanatory so I'm not sure how much more help you need

Wheredoistart78 · 02/07/2023 15:13

He's guilty, but a very good person.

But a criminal

We have different definitions of what makes so someone good.

BusyInTheGarden · 02/07/2023 15:50

Well what would I know? I only work in one

Loving the sweeping generalisation on here!

They are pretty dumb if making tiktoks and glorifying that they have a other half in prison, half of time they know what their other half is UpTo.

Also poor judges of character too, but I see much of people staying with scumbags.

This. Trashy women stay trashy.

LegendsBeyond · 02/07/2023 15:54

It’s sad that these women seem proud of having a criminal partner, but they often benefit from the money & the ‘status’ in some communities. It’s pathetic really.

So you are saying they are full of lovely people , I hope you don't work in a prison as you sound so incredibly naive.

So tell us about the lovely people.

BusyInTheGarden · 02/07/2023 15:55

Well most of my colleagues are lovely people, those in healthcare are lovely people

Generally most of the staff!!

BusyInTheGarden · 02/07/2023 15:56

Prisoners (men cat A)

Range from bad as you'd imagine through to men with SEN

BusyInTheGarden · 02/07/2023 15:57

@Againstmachine

Naive 😆

Bananaandpecan · 02/07/2023 15:57

I see these videos also. I think that "get ready with me for..." is a trend as much as anything else and they are getting ready for a prison visit so film it and post it. In the comments you can see lots of other women are in the same situation and they seem to find support in each other.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with supporting someone in prison so why shouldn't they post the video if they're so inclined. They are not guilty of their partners crimes.
I dont think by putting out there that they have a loved one in prison is glorifying it.

Are you deliberately being like this, we clearly aren't talking about the staff so stop being obtuse.

You are thinking you are looking clever with your comments but you are making yourself look stupid.

That's really interesting and seems to overlap with the women as support animals for men outlook / the women being men's fixers outlook.

It's not healthy for a woman to have that responsibility on her.

They may not be guilty of their partners crimes, but if you benefit from them then you are consenting to them and let's be honest many women know there other half is dodgy

isthismylifenow · 02/07/2023 16:06

I know one of these women.

She has had abusive relationships constantly through her life.

I wish I could wave a magic wand so that she can see things clearly, he is very manipulative and she cannot see this being in the bubble.

He's a lifer. Probably won't ever get out. But they are due to be married (they got engaged on one 15 min visit).

Personally I think it's because she knows he's never getting out, and so can't physically harm her. He's going a great job of it mentally though.

She just says people will never understand. Which is probably correct. But she is an adult and spends all she has on him, buying telephone time, flights, special outfits for the 15 min visit. It's all on tiktok too. She has quite a big following. She says it's her support group.

Btw he's in for life for domestic abuse, attempted murder (of said spouse), housebreaking and drugs. Not really a catch, nor a good person.

My understanding was that a vast proportion of men in prison have learning difficulties/undiagnosed sen, are functionally illiterate and often have been abused as children. A friend used to work in prison ed and she used to make it clear she wasn't working with flashy drug dealers and tax evaders but young men who, with a different start in life, would never have ended up in prison.

I think it's pretty clear that posters are referring to the prisoners serving time in prisons, rather than the staff.
Staff rarely have girlfriends and wives coming into the visit them - the op is about TikTok videos of them - so fairly obvious they mean inmates.

I've also worked in prisons - a lot of prisoners, including cat A and restricted ones - can come across as personable and often charismatic. However, the very fact that they are in prison suggests there is a flaw in their character in some way. Whilst some may be in there for dubious reasons, or have some form of Sen perhaps, most are in their for committing a crime and often behaving in pretty bad ways.

JudgeRudy · 02/07/2023 16:18

Againstmachine · 02/07/2023 15:00

Mostly that's very untrue.

It's either true or false. It's true. There are good people in prison. They've done something illegal and got caught. The behaviour was bad but that might not define them as a person.
Likewise, there are bad people not in prison. Not all crimes are illegal. Some people are morally corrupt but may never break the law....but they'll hurt and use plenty of people throughout their life.
I know 2 prisoners I trust. One's in, one's out. Both are essentially decent people and both are kind. They just struggle to fit in and earn a living in a normal way.

You are completely wrong you are judging what they mean to you, you ignore the victims of the crime and most of the time there is a victim.

MynameMyname · 02/07/2023 16:21

Very manipulative with a good sense of humour . Keep their bodies toned and fit . So many female prison officers get caught having affairs with them . They are so good at getting into peoples heads .
