Does it annoy you when you are asked for a few chips? DH and I had a Chinese tonight he got chips with his main I had rice. This is a standard for us and I always 'rob a few chips' I offer rice but he usually doesn't want it. The way he joked and said no you can't tonight really reminded me of my ex.

He used to get so frustrated/ annoyed if I wanted to 'rob a few chips' and say if I wanted some just order them that I couldn't have any of his, even though he never finished them all so I just thought it was a waste of food. For ref this is how many I normally take threw a spring roll on the plate to ref the size of plate.

YABU - Get your own chips
YANBU - It's a few chips share

Get your own chips 😬

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 29/06/2023 22:33

Get your own chips. My mum does this and it drives me demented. I ordered them because I want them, not because I want to give them out

HoHoHoMo · 29/06/2023 22:33

Yes, I’m strongly against this.

It’s like people who don’t order a dessert, just have a coffee, then want to try your dessert. They really just need to do one.

MindPalace · 29/06/2023 22:34

This would make me furious, sorry OP. I will never willingly share my chips.

JMSA · 29/06/2023 22:34

I'm torn! Chinese takeaway chip portions are usually huge (and I'm greedy), so a few is fine I think. But even then, I'd find it a bit annoying.
You're both unreasonable though, as noodles are obviously best Grin

FionnulaTheCooler · 29/06/2023 22:35

Normally I would say it's annoying when someone doesn't order something they want to eat and then expects to share yours, but if that picture is accurate and its a whole 7 chips then he's being a bit petty, especially if he doesn't even finish a full portion.

Xmasbaby11 · 29/06/2023 22:36

I think that’s fine - that’s hardly any chips! think it’s totally different if he wanted a third or even a quarter of a dish.

Blondey2023 · 29/06/2023 22:36

DH and I share all of our takeaway food, so I don't see a problem with it at all. However if it was a friend it would irritate me! I used to have a friend that would pinch chips off my plate and it drove me mad!

Avondale89 · 29/06/2023 22:36

Chip portions are usually bloody huge! I’m not shy about eating, but I don’t think I’ve ever finished an entire portion. I don’t see the issue.

MissConductUS · 29/06/2023 22:36

No one likes a chip lifter. If you want them, order them. If he wants to share, he'll offer. He can eat what he ordered.

mrsbyers · 29/06/2023 22:37

We always share , I like six chips if they’re from a takeaway so a portion just for me would be a waste

ClarityClankrant · 29/06/2023 22:37

I'm not into all this swapping and trying other people's meals. Feck off!!

CornedBeef451 · 29/06/2023 22:37

I think you're both unreasonable for ordering chips!

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 29/06/2023 22:38

I wouldn’t want to share either.

sunshineandshowers40 · 29/06/2023 22:40

If so depends on your DP, I could do this with DH with no issue, an ex from uni, absolutely no way! I'm not sure I would want to share my chips but neither are being unreasonable

JMSA · 29/06/2023 22:41

Fuck, I'm on a diet and would kill for a Chinese.

This Chinese don't do good noodles 😭

Their chip portions are huge even the hungriest person would struggle and I do always ask before ordering btw.

I wouldn't ask friends or anything when we are out I think that's different.

If you want chips with your meal you should order your own portion, stop taking his, it's so annoying when people don't order something for themselves but then expect others to share their food with them.

ShamanicDepression · 29/06/2023 22:43

YABU for making me feel hungry when I don’t even like Chinese takeout 🥢

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 29/06/2023 22:43

Get. Your. Own. Chips!

Fifiellz · 29/06/2023 22:45

My food is my food, if you want chips order chips. I hate people digging into my meal.

My MIL will order sea bass and salad for dinner then spend the whole meal "trying a bit" of everyone else's. Drives me mad.

kimonokake · 29/06/2023 22:47

I think it's fine to ask - people usually offer at some point though if they don't mind sharing. The problem is if they feel they can't say no without the askee getting upset.

JudgeJ · 29/06/2023 22:54

JMSA · 29/06/2023 22:41

Fuck, I'm on a diet and would kill for a Chinese.

I keep thinking about the chips in the freezer and looking at the air fryer, I didn't have any dinner or lunch but now I feel very hungry. At our chippy you have to say Stop when they're dishing up the chips, one portion is too big even for two adults and we're not 'small eaters'.

Jellybean23 · 29/06/2023 22:56

Scrounging someone else's chips is irritating if you do it every time you have a takeaway. You have done it too often and need to get your own or do without.

WTFAreYouForReal · 29/06/2023 23:01

Yavvvu, amd you know it.

Touch my plate, feel my fork!

If you know you will want chips, order your own.

My family used to drive me mad with this.

Me: Do you want food mum, I'm making something.

Them: No.

Me: Make food, sit down to eat it.

Them: Descend like fucking locusts
